...your coach obviously has issues that are very public. At least there is no great mystery with ya'll.

[Optimus Prime 4]

won a national championship, and wanted to go back to Peurto Rico. Knew his stock wouldn't go up more next year with less playing time, and apparently got offered a decent contract to play in PR.

[DowntownDawg]

...I can see that, but come on. He was going to be a starter on a team that has been picked to make the NCAA tournament and finish 1st or 2nd in the division. I just don't buy that. Not a playing time issue, not on a terrible team, something's not right in Oxford. Two big contributors leave the team early. And for the record, the Delks and Ben didn't make sense to me either. We've had internal issues that maybe are resolved (fingers crossed), but it appears there are some in Oxford now.

[rebfan04]

And his minutes would've been significantly lower next year than this year.

White left because he wanted 20 touches a game in a guard-dominated offense.

[gringodawg]

**

[8dog]

that would be just assinine.

[rebfan04]

I guess you could say that it was a possibility that he would start over Polyniece, but I doubt it, considering he's our best perimeter defender.

He wouldn't start at PG.

He wouldn't start at the 2. That's White's spot.

Holloway is the 4 and Cranston would be the 5, at least to start the season.

Its been discussed ad nauseum over on NAFOOM, and most believe he would've been the first player off the bench. I actually argued the negative to that and was shot down.

[bonedaddy401]

and it should. The guy is human trash. Hopefully his lawsuit blows up in his face and he pays for being a dumb *** drunk just like anybody else that isn't a head basketball coach at a D-I school would. These guys don't know for sure who will be their coach next year so they are controlling what they can while they can. Good for them.

I just hope UofM keeps the trailer park All-Star. He is a great national representative of Ole Miss and Oxford.

[Dinkle]

,

[rebfan04]

Thats quite a stretch.

But I wouldn't put it past you.

[RebelBruiser]

Huertas is a 2 guard. He can't really play the 3. Do you honestly think Huertas would've started over Terrico? Add to that that Gaskins is back healthy now and playing the 2 as well, and Huertas's minutes were definitely going to go down.

Plus Huertas had been in school for 4 years already. It's a little bit like Sean Taggart at Memphis. Both could come back and play during their 5th year or go overseas to play pro ball.

Malcolm was a surprise to me, and him leaving is definitely going to hurt us. Huertas leaving has been rumored for a while, and it won't be nearly as big of a deal to the team unless we have a rash of knee injuries again.

[8dog]

Huertas, Warren, and White can all get to the rim and all shoot the 3. It would really spread teams out and be tough to guard. Polynice, Warren, and White doesn't have that same effect.

Im interested to see how going to Kennedy's more usual run and gun style works next year. I think any success ole miss had this year was due to White's emergence and how tough he is in the half court game to guard--but almost as importantly, Kennedy playing a bigger lineup and winning the battle of the boards.

[dawgstudent]

Rebfan04 has played basketball for 17 years.

[38843dawg]

the OM fans think that losing Huertas is not a big deal. I mean he only averaged about 18 points a game this season and about 4.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists, but you won't miss him next season? I mean you guys will still have a good team thanks to Warren and T. White, but no way in hell Polyniece or Gaskins or anyother guard I can't think of is better/compensate for Huertas leaving. You will probably miss Huertas when you start having some freak knee injuries, but you know what ever makes you feel better.

[MadRebel10]

I think it's pretty comical that we wouldn't know our own team but State fans would.

[Sutterkane]

way too easy.

[RebelBruiser]

I think Polynice has to start next year, and I think he would've started even if Huertas returned. The reason is, though he's not a very good shooter, he's great at getting to the rim and scoring, a lot better than Huertas at that, and most importantly, Polynice is our best defender. You have to start your best defender, because you're going to need to have him on the floor to match up with the opposing team's best scorer.

You're right though that Polynice's spot is the only guard spot that you could've argued Huertas could take. I don't think you could have argued taking Warren or Terrico out of the starting line up in favor of Huertas.

[RebelBruiser]

White didn't put up near the numbers Huertas did, but we have guys coming back that can take up the slack for Huertas. The reason he put up those numbers is because he was one of two scorers we had left. He got a lot of shots. He wasn't going to get as many shots this coming year.

We have players that can take up the slack for what he gave to the team. We don't have anyone to take up the slack for what Malcolm White gave to the team.

[8dog]

If Im an opposing team, I can now narrow the focus on guarding White and Warren. I'd much rather see Polynice on the floor than Huertas.

[dawgstudent]

on more than one team.

[Sutterkane]

so why would we assume that you kept up with the sport even for your own team?

[RebelBruiser]

If Im an opposing team, I can now narrow the focus on guarding White and Warren. I'd much rather see Polynice on the floor than Huertas.

If you're an opposing team, you may be right defensively, because Polynice's only threat to score is getting in the lane on the drive. However, as I said, Polynice makes life more difficult on you as a team trying to get your offense going. Huertas is a good defender, but he isn't as good as Polynice.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'd rather have Huerts back. The point is, that him leaving is not nearly as big of a loss as Malcolm White leaving. We'll get production out of our guards with or without Huertas, and we'll be difficult to guard on the perimeter with or without Huertas. Without White, we lose our primary post presence, and we have no one to take up that slack.

[38843dawg]

I think it's pretty comical that we wouldn't know our own team but State fans would.

[8dog]

if only there were a way to see a game without having to actually be at the game.

a guy can dream can't he?

[olemissbydamn]

If Im an opposing team, I can now narrow the focus on guarding White and Warren. I'd much rather see Polynice on the floor than Huertas.

[Hanmudog]

Both flopped all over the court at the slightest touch and both constantly had a look on their faces as it they had just sniffed a turd. Good riddance.

[Optimus Prime 4]

[Hanmudog]

Moreso than their games.

[DowntownDawg]

...because it is Sixpack/GP, circa 2007 and 2008. "We won't miss the Delks." "We have better players waiting in the wings like Barry Stewart." "We don't need Hans."

The point that I have been trying to make is the following: You lost two key contributors to transfer. It will hurt in on the court results. Again, see our program. Furthermore, the fact that you lost two key contributors that had the opportunity to come back to a team that has been picked to finish first or second in the division and make the NCAA tournament (the best team that OM has had in very long time), is ample evidence that there are problems with that program. You can make an excuse for one, but not two.

Go ahead and shrug it off. 8Dog is right. Ole Miss just got substantially worse next year.

[hatfieldms]

I think it's pretty comical that we wouldn't know our own team but State fans would.

And yet the Ole Miss fan base seems to know more about MSU football than MSU fans do

[olemissbydamn]

Didn't you guys get better without the Delks?

Weren't you like 23-14 (9-7) with the Delks in 06-07 with a NIT berth? Then in 07-08 you were like 23-10 (11-4) in 07-08 with a second round NCAA loss to eventual finalist Memphis.

Then this season you you won the SEC tourney and earned another NCAA berth.

I'd say you improved without Delk.

[Hanmudog]

We did get better without the Delks but we were not a very deep team after their departure. I was never a fan of either of them and think they would have been a cancer had they stayed. One was a point guard that really couldn't dribble and the other was a shooting guard that really was not a good shooter. However, Dahveed Huertas was much better than either of the Delks. I do think that Huertas leaving will free up more minutes for Terrico White which is a good thing but it will hurt with depth.

[Interpol]

Ask Roy Williams.

The "best" players don't always start if they can help the team by coming off the bench.

[Toag Redloh]

the Delks? What the hell. Even in hindsight I wouldn't have even given them a chance to come back. I enjoyed that NCAA appearance in '07. And guards weren't exactly our weakness this season, oh yeah another NCAA tournament appearance season. So, maybe Hans.

I think UM will be noticeably worse next year, for the record. It's because Malcolm White really is somebody they can't lose. Delks and Hans didn't have that kind of power.
