I owe apologies to some on this board. I was blindly following the last staff because I am so desperate for NU to be NU again. I blasted many who didn't support the staff, but in the end, you were right and I was wrong. Crow is served. You know who you are if I hammered you. I just want to win and I really hope we get this next hire right and get stability and a winning program back on track. GBR!!

We all want NU to win.

If this staff would have won big, everyone would have been fine with them.

I think there are a lot of people like you that just want whatever staff is here to win us some championships again. I know I sure do!

I supported Riley as he was the coach. I still support him and the team, but this staff is done. If I saw him in person, I would tell him to get his *** to work and beat the hell out of PSU next week and that we need to win.

I would love it if he beat PSU and Iowa. He would still need let go though if he won. It ain't working out. Not just one issue, but now quite a few issues in alnost every facet of the game. I thought maybe Diaco would help, but obviously the only help he has provided was to help the team flow down the gutter.

This team is snowballing bad...

Meh. I stepped off that train ten weeks ago. We all knew this was going to be a brutal schedule this year. There were certain games that Riley just had to win. He's failed. Time to move on. Changes need to be made. And yeah, I wanted things to work out, too.

I don’t see why people need to eat crow for supporting the staff that is leading the team you cheer for.

When it’s obvious that the staff isn’t getting it done, you move on, but along the way, you support. That’s what a fan does.

some were able to solve the wheel-of-fortune puzzle at

T-R-_ _ _ W-_ _ _-K

and it didn't become clear to others until

T-R-A-I-N-W-R-E-C-_

no worries .. I think everyone has arrived at the same place

From day one, MR was an underwhelming hire to me. Made no sense.
That said, I supported him and tried to see a path to success. I drank the recruiting Kool-Aid (with a little booze mixed in). Tried to be patient, giving him time to get a pro-style QB in place.
It's been an epic failure. That's been clear all year long.

Now I guess we need to trust Moos and the program leadership to make the right move. I sure hope they think long-term with this strategy. Someone who will make NU a destination, and not just another 3-5 year stint to earn a fat paycheck.

I am with you. I thought maybe when T Lee got rid of the interception bug we'd start rolling. But it appears that was wishful thinking. No hard feelings to the staff but I think everyone understands that 4-8 is going to lose you your HC job at Nebraska.

It was more than support.
It was belittling and berating anyone who pointed out obvious coaching flaws from year one.
That was the problem. The whole "I'm sorry I just wanted the staff to do good" some post is total b.s.
Everyone poining out crap coaching along the way was called a bloner or whatever or worse, or not a true fan, etc. THAT is what people need to eat crow for, stop pretending it's for simply supporting the staff. They got plenty of support.

The reason some of us are eating crow, me included, isn’t because we supported the coaches... it’s because we blasted posters who embraced reality sooner. I’m eating the crow too right now. I have made apologies to certain posters in other threads, and not to piggyback on HBK here, but there are some of us who should show up with a bit of remorse in this thread.

I will add my apologies board wide to those I have blasted. I would name names but unfortunately, there are too many to name.

I will maintain my sarcasm I am sure moving forward, but I will attempt to be a more open fan to viewpoints other than my own.

It’s been a precipitous fall from the excitement that the early recruiting successes this year to now. I was pulling for him because there is a place for him in football and he was our coach, but unfortunately I realize now it’s not in the position he’s currently in.

Agreed HBK, i was on board and hoping we were going to return to elite status. I had heard all the hype about Riley doing so much with very little at OSU and having a better eye for talent when recruiting. All the hype is gone and this very kind and gracious man has fully lost my support. This is the most poorly coached Huskers team i have seen in my 40+ years or following them. I still believe we can get a top flight coach to replace him and we can be great again. Football defines the state and the fans/facilities/tradition/funding are unlike anywhere else in the country. We have just made four bad hires and can recover. Keeping the faith! GBR!

I agree, I wasn't writing him off until stuff really hit the fan and/or the team quit. Otherwise, 3rd year would be too soon.

I never thought he was the answer, but I did have hope he'd be a guy who'd give a smooth transition to the next guy by improving. Not so much after all.

I thought he would be fired the moment that Frost showed he was a decent head coach...whether that was 2018 or 2019...there was no chance that he would change stripes...5-6. 9-4. 4-8 is the exact trajectory of a MR team. But Frost was too risky to hire immediately after Bo...especially with so many players loyal to Bo...and so many defectors. If Frost took a 2-10 team to 10-0 in 2 seasons then it makes sense to fire all involved with MR as quickly as possible...and that is what is happening.

Very nice thread. Agree no crow to eat but its been painful at times. There is no solice in recognizing it earlier just more painful. Most of us would have rather been wrong but at the same time.....it is what it is and the faster we move on the better. GBR

Still a few butthurt folks, lets say, on this board, but I forgive and forget pretty easily as long as the conversation remains civil. Yeah this place was pretty unbearable a lot of times since the end of the Pelini era, which is one of the reasons I hadn't been posting as much. But now I'm on here way too much so maybe it was a good thing.Laughing

Meh, no one needs to eat crow. We all wanted Mike Riley to work out.

I see it as some people just being more of the optimist variety and able to continue to look for progress despite what they are seeing on the field. I wish I were more like this, but I saw things that really bothered me pretty much every year MR was here. I just hoped it was because he was still settling in to the job. Unfortunately it became pretty evident last year that we were becoming a soft football team. And it really hit home the 1st game of the season this year.

No need to apologize. We all want good things for the program. Some of us are just more right than others.. :D

I did not support him from the beginning although I understood the desire to believe it would work. I did that with Callahan and did it with Pelini. Riley was a stupid hire on so many levels, I would say the decision to hire him was not based on who gave us the best chance to win football games.

I appreciate people believing they are a good fan by supporting a particular staff no problem with that but the insults against people that do not believe that are not right and hopefully don't happen in the future. However there are some notable culprits missing in this thread

We hired Riley because Eichorst is a social mushroom and had never developed any relationships with qualified coaches. He tried hiring 3 or 4 other coaches before Riley.

Except for a few lurking Iowa fans, we all want the team to win. It's no fun when the program goes through one coaching change after another, constantly rebuilding, and things never really get any better.

I had student tickets for two of Nebraska's three championship seasons. Back then I had no idea just how crazy lucky I was to be there.

I thought the discussions on here were pretty damn good. No need for anyone to eat crow. Sure, sure, there has been some "trashing" of others on here. But the trashing went BOTH ways. The anti Riley people aren't exactly innocent either. But we are all big boys here. If you have thick skin and big balls you can take it. It is just a football chat board.

What is great is how everyone is pretty much on the same page now. I am excited for our future for the first time in about 20 years.

that will last until the very first play of the spring game when Frost sends them out without a fullback and throws a bubble screen. Rest assured we will be back at each others throats in no time. Winking
I predict it will happen before the first play. It will probably start when Frost announces his staff choices. What? No Parella??!! Lol
