Sounds about right. We were borderline top 25 all year last year. Look to be about there this year. Optimism notwithstanding, sounds about right. Make them prove themselves worthy to be perceived better. The opportunity in the schedule is there.

So go out and prove you're better than that and what people's preseason thoughts are at.

Do it, and it's a moot thing. It really means nothing in the end either way.

Do it not, then those thoughts are justified. The continued questioning, doubting vibe would remain.

Go out there and prove Kentucky is more, MUCH MORE, relevant than that.

That is all.

Go Big Blue !

preseason rankings are a culmination of players returning and talent brought in. This has nothing to do with how a team will play together. The rankings are a testament and bold statement to once again say that for the money spent, Pope can’t get top talent. With the history, support, facilities, UK should always have a top ten preseason ranking.

i also think its an indictment of what the media thinks of pope's coaching abilities.

If UK loses to KU on the 10th, UK will be unranked come Nov 14th. if that were to happen, UK would then need to string together wins vs Indiana, Wichita State, and Virginia to get back into the rankings. lose any of those games and its likely UK is unranked going into conference play.

These rankings probably don't mean much in regards to how good this team can be, but I don't understand how we spend so much NIL money (relative to most other teams) in recent years but we don't have an obviously good roster. Just frustrating having to hope for "the whole is greater than the sum of the parts" type team.

I think around 15th or 16th makes more sense but as others have said, polls are meaningless. All that matters are the ncaa committees rankings come March.

Not that I have high hopes there either.

Excuses, excuses. Kentucky basketball should always be highly ranked rather than winning games as an upset. I hope our team is way better than what was observed in the first exhibition.
You really don't know much about our ACTUAL history do you. There are numerous seasons GOING BACK TO RUPP where we weren't highly ranked and had pedestrian records. Cal had 3-4 teams that weren't highly ranked( see NIT season for one). Yes we have won the most games and 2nd most titles but on last quarter century we have won 1 title. The idea that just because we are KENTUCKY we should have some Devine right of kings to rankings and titles is ridiculous. We get what we EARN on the court not the name on the jersey.

I also don’t like Gonzaga in the top 25 but maybe they got some 5th years I’m not aware of.

Proof that exhibitions mean absolutely nothing. How Tennessee could be top 10 after the beating they took from Xavier shows that. Also iowa state lost. St. John’s needed 4 overtime’s to beat Rutgers.
its proof exhibitions means nothing in terms of pre season rankings.

the tennessee coaching staff desperately wanted to add another big men to the roster. why....because they saw the guys in the summer and knew they were in trouble. so they landed the washington kid from vandy. but because he is being held out he didnt play in thier exhibition game. guess what happened.....tennessee's big sucked.

exhibition games are not meaningless. they give you a chance to confirm or disprove what you know. and right now....that tennessee coaching staff know their bigs are crap.

But you used to be able to reliably make that assessment in past eras, because each team had a core group of returning players that you’d seen play together before. So you’d just look at who they added or lost from that core, and you could make a well educated guess as to whether they’ll be better or worse than the prior year.

But nowadays most teams have such a completely different roster every year …with groups who’ve never yet played together …that trying to rank them this early is basically just an exercise in making wild guesses.

Pre-season rankings have never meant less than they do now. I don’t think this tells us much of anything about our current team.

Rankings are meaningless but I have a hard time believing we are even a top 25 team. I don’t think this team would finish in the top 3 in the MAC. I am less excited about this season than I was tubbys last year. . If this team loses 12 games or less they will have overachieved IMO but unless it’s a 5-8 loss season with a formidable run in the NCAAT, Pope has to go regardless. Nothing I have seen lets me believe he is the MAN for this job.

He’s held out because he might not be eligible anyways. Also he’s not very good either. This Tennessee is the complete opposite type of team that Barnes usually coaches. All offensive guys with zero defense really.

They also lost their projected starting pg when he left to go back overseas.

Looks like they added Zaivian Lee from Florida as a fifth year to play point for them. Also they have Javon Bennett from Dayton. Another late add as well as adding two Euro players over the summer.

Their bigs are pretty good with Huff back, Wiggins from Clemson, and Diop from Arizona St.

Yea huff and Diop will be good for them. Wiggins is absolutely awful. Hartwell from Houston is the interesting one for me. 5 star kid that just couldn’t get it going for Houston.

"Sad" that anyone cares. Zero games have been played. This, and all other polls are meaningless.
Another blinded Kentucky fan. One day you’ll realize mark pope is a fraud! Year 3 was big for Coach Cal after coming up short in the final four in year 2. Billy was the first bad basketball hire. Cal’s last year with reed shepherd was better than Billy’s last year with Patterson. 2012 championships was done in year 3. He was preseason 1 or2.
