John Calipari: "I don't believe it's over, we haven't even played a league game yet. Our true fans, keep cheering them on. You think they want to play the way they're playing, losing the way they're losing?"
Yes. It’s one of several of his asinine horse hockey quotes from yesterday that ticked me off. The game I was ok with. I thought they played hard. But to say the idiotic things he did after shows me he’s tripled down, starting to crack a little and is way too comfortable and arrogant.

I agree. Those comments are ridiculous. I've put my soul into the Cats for 46 years. He has no right to tell us who the true fans are.

Didn’t he say something about just letting the kids play? Something to the tune that he was going to let them work through the game with less coaching. I may have misunderstood, but I thought I heard one of the tv guys say it during the game.

I shared this in here yesterday.

Cal’s bizarre presser statements. My biggest issue with Cal right now is what he’s saying and in doing so driving a deeper wedge between him and the fans. Do you think Cal is cracking under pressure?

1. Schedule too hard

2. Doesn’t play favorites but then says immediately top 7 gets more leeway

3. Thought twice about playing Allen but wanted a chance to win

Can add true fans comment.

Oh wow. Another tone deaf idiotic comment from Cal. Not surprising. Seriously, we look like crap right now, interest in the program has taken a nosedive, and this is what he says? This is basically Cal to the fans right now... Burning the bridge.

Sorry Jedwar for rehashing this post. I hadn't seen this comment before today. Just stuck out to me.

Makes me actually wonder if he is refusing to play Allen on purpose to further infuriate fans.

Yeah I noticed it but it didn't really bother me because it proves he is feeling the heat a bit which means he gets it.

He also said that its not over and I, unlike alot of you, agree with it based on our SOS and the closeness of half our Ls.

If we were playing crap teams and getting blown out it would be one thing.

But we are playing solid programs and have lost 3 games by 1 shot each.

He’s referring to “his” fans, fans of the program are different. I don’t care who the coach is, I’m a fan of the program, the history, and the prestige. He’s playing a game with all of it and he believes he’s above the requirements of the job. He’s ok with marginal performance and excuses-the real fans are not ok with it.

We didn't lose to Richmond, Ga Tech, in close games. Losing is losing.

Does strenght of schedule really matter if you lose every game? At some point, this team need to start winning if they are to have a prayer at making the NCAAT.

It’s no different than the people on here saying you’re not a true fan of you don’t constantly say something bad about Calipari

Most fans, especially at Kentucky are going to get pretty riled after starting 1-6. He is not helping matters with the things he is and has been saying, true fans, ok. The fans have stuck with Cal even though there is always to much emphasis and talk about the draft and the NBA around here, as long as he was winning we always had a chance so the fans lived with it. This bringing in 6 or 7 freshman every year and not having a starter back this year and losing to our worst rivals will bring out the worst about this job. Why is getting players to the NBA such a big deal with him, at Memphis and UMASS that wasn't his first priority. The interest here is at an all time low because of the revolving door, two years here is about all a kid can stand when only 6 or 7 get to play most of the time. The culture here is his and now it's getting hot and the band wagon fans are the problem according to him.

True fans are cheering them ( team) on. I fail to see what is wrong with that. He didn't say cheering me on. Good lord.

Cal has FAILED the FANS of UK Basketball, pure and simple.

He FAILED to recruit the proper players to have success this season
He FAILED to prepare these same players to perform at a level needed to win
He has FAILED to run an offense and defense to maximize these players skills
He has FAILED to endear himself and this team to fans by using BLM and Coach Rupp before the season ever started
He has FAILED to give the fans any hope that he can turn it around

So CAL has FAILED the "TRUE FANS", yet wants to blame EVERYTHING other than himself. I thought there were "NO EXCUSES AT UK"?????

He has even went so far as to call those of us that are questioning him "Trolls". These "Trolls" are the reason he makes $10 Million/year!!!

Oh yeah--

since when does bloatedego know anything about "REAL UK FANS"?

UK had 4 ncaa championships BEFORE bloatedego was born!!! I listened to games and KNEW about 2 of those ncaa championship teams. I saw Cox and Hatton play in high school and WIN Ky Sweet 16 titles--then an ncaa TITLE---before bloatedego was born!!

WE "REAL UK FANS" weighed on every word of Claude Sullivan and Cawood Ledford, driving all over the place to HEAR the game, stopping everything to not miss a RUPP discussion with Sullivan and Ledford. We found that "right spot" to remove as much static as possible, we listened in the hollows, on the hills, at work, in the military, when traveling on business--and a "GAME" was to never be missed---on the RADIO. And, a fat slob is gonna tell us what a "REAL UK FAN" is!! Yeah, right!! WE know what "REAL UK b'ball" is--and you ain't providing it!! Now, "REAL UK FANS" aren't even interested in making plans to WATCH a game, forget about listening to a game, or listen to any of your stale babble and excuses and arrogance. GET REAL!!!

and--he wants to tell those my age and OLDER what "Real UK FANS" are about!!

You are a mere figment of your own imagination and bloated ego!!

LEAVE ASAP---before "REAL UK FANS" get serious about your results, behavior, rhetoric and attitude.

Most fans are upset with him and not the players, but I can understand why Cal would attempt to make it about the players. His god syndrome would never allow him to truly examine himself as the focus of fans' discontent. There is no reason to think that kids who performed at the highest level a year ago forgot how to play a year later. It is one thing for one player to under perform, but when the entire team is doing it, the coach has to be considered the problem. Before you start talking about the success of previous teams, I would argue they under performed considering the talent level, a major component, Kenny Payne, is no longer here. It appears that he was the real coach and Cal was and is just that flashy object that got all the attention because he never saw a camera or a mic that he wanted to avoid.

Exactly. You know, Cal, we’ve been dedicated to supporting this program since long before you showed up, and we’ll still be so after you’re gone. We’re here because we love Kentucky basketball, not because we’re paid millions to be here. You’re not more UK than us and you don’t get to decide which of us is a “true fan.”

lmfao there's nothing wrong with saying that.

If you think he was talking about you and got offended, maybe you have to look in the mirror and ask why you feel that way.

The people on this board are diehard fans that live eat and breathe UK basketball. He wasn't talking about you.

Previously, I missed the most disturbing part of this quote: "You think they want to play the way they're playing, losing the way they're losing?" He seems to have excluded himself from playing this way and losing. WOW!

Can add true fans comment.
I think Cal is too arrogant to crack. And I think this problem with the fans is one of the main reasons he doesn't play Allen or recruit Kentucky kids. When Cal first came here, the fans loved him and he could do no wrong. The first 5 seasons added to the love fest. His ego ate it up. Now that opinions of him are changing (for good reason, I might add), he can't handle it. He doesn't see the problem, therefore, he doesn't understand why the fans don't totally trust every word that comes out of his mouth. Since he doesn't get it, he takes it out on the fans by making smart aleck comments about the fans because the fans MUST be wrong. He can't get away with everything anymore. I really think he doesn't get it. His oversized ego won't let him. And that's sad.

P.S. Sorry if this was rambling. Sometimes my brain works faster than my fingers...lol.
