I guess we've reached a point where getting blown out by Richmond on your home court is no big deal.Richmond didn't even play that well.Expectations seem be getting lower after the last few years. If Kansas beats us some fans will say it doesn't matter but it's huge for our seeding.

We will lose a few more early and a few in the SEC. This team is young and unless they get it and gel earlier than most of Cals past teams this will be/is the norm. I agree with most post on here, not happy with it and pissed but also waiting to see how quickly/if they can come together. It really all depends on their spirit and will to listen and do what Cal ask them to do. Could go sour quickly if these guys aren't tough enough.

I’m not worried. But I don’t expect this team to challenge for a title either. My expectations were never as lofty as a lot of folks on here. But still, expectations have diminished.

I think team, as of now, has an elite eight ceiling, and that’s being generous. More like SS.

could grow into a FF squad. Depending on the field could be a contender but I am doubtful.

Agreed, too many other teams out there almost if not as talented with much more experience.

But, with Covid still lingering anything can happen though. That in no way means I hope teams come down with it, far from it but, it has a way of screwing things up for teams thus far.

Being a UK fan is like politics, be damn if you do or don't, 50%of the people are going to be ticked off. Basicly 2 high school seniors and one that would be playing their 1st game as a senior in high school starting in their 2nd college game against a experienced team. I'm just glad we didn't play Murray St. or Western KY.

All good points. What bothers me is....1. I'm not sure Askew is that good...he had a terrible stat line, but their guards were really tough. 2. Our two big guns are 0-11 from 3pt ....I think our ceiling is a little lower than what I'd hoped.

Definitely agree on askew. If he’s not here for at least two years it’s a big mistake on his part. Seems very indecisive and doesn’t really have a quick enough first step to get past defenders.

I don't think so, other ranked teams don't have the youth we do. I was not impressed with Richmond as much as I was disappointed with our play. They shot poorly too.
You don’t think Richmond is doing that to UCLA, who struggled with Pepperdine yesterday; I think they could give a game to nova. Especially since they may be bigger in the frontcourt than nova. Kansas, AZ St. is included in that as well after watching some of these teams play. Like another poster stated, take the name of the opponent’s out of your mind.

They shot poorly because we were defending pretty well and making them score over length defensively first half.

No, these teams don't have the youth we do and half of the top 25 would not lose at home much less by 12 at home to Richmond.

UVA just lost to San Francisco, Duke struggled AT HOME to Coppin St. I’m from Baltimore that’s worse than losing how we did to Richmond today. Illinois almost dropped to Ohio, Ohio State, struggled with UMass-Lowell today, I’m not sure if Boise is better than Richmond, and Houston struggled with them. Not making excuses for Cal and the team today but you’re

Im not worried...the games dont matter if the arena isn't filled with people. This is just glorified scrimmages. Anyone that thinks different is fooling themselves

Let's get off of the Richmond team as not a bad loss. They rank over 150 in most of the regular rated areas except shooting nationally. Before this game (yes early) they were ranked 17th in shooting percentage which by the way they did not shoot as well today overall. We just played poorly/bad today. We shot horribly in every area and turned the ball over way too much. Had we shot well and protected the ball and then lost...the point would be valid.

Whatever makes you feel better I suppose.

This type of loss I would have never expect in Cals first 5 years. Now it’s nothing I am surprised by.
Too bad you don’t watch enough basketball to know that the gap between good mid majors and high level power 5 teams has been shrinking more and more each year. Relax. I’ll take UK’s roster over Richmond’s come March.

Weak argument, struggling and winning is not losing and losing away happens way more often than losing at home by 12. Once again, half of the top 25 would not have lost to Richmond today. They did not shoot it well overall and we made 21 turnovers (mostly mental errors not because of their defense) along with shooting poorly.

Yeah, I get it. Many need to feel as if this was a tough game but, the facts are, we are not that good (yet).

I don't think anyone would argue that point.

I remember everyone screaming parity in college ball when Tubby was stinking up the place

Then Cal came in and tore that concept a new one

Now we're back at parity again because we can't beat Evansville and Richmond?

I guess this is Calipari's Gardner Webb and VMI

I’m not worried one bit. Was it a bad loss? Absolutely! I believe by the time January rolls around, we will be as good as anyone in the country!

Again, whatever makes you feel better. If that helps you accept bad losses then so be it. We should never lose a game to an Atlantic 10 school.

just happy to have basketball. everyone is going to lose games at home this season. blame the virus. ninja guards will remain a problem regardless. we should press or something with our length but we know our defense will be pretty good by the end of the year. if there is one.

People tend to overreact to losses.

This stuff happens. And u know what.......if we win Tuesday it's all forgotten.
This thread isn't about the loss today. The loss is only the conduit allowing folks to say what has been on their mind for quite some time. If you notice there has been very little bashing just expressions of frustration for the status quo

- No exhibition games
- Limited crowd and weird atmosphere
- Little time to build chemistry
- Little time to work on X’s and O’s
- Still learning to play team basketball and not rely on athleticism and length alone
- Solid experienced Richmond team who understands fundamental basketball

Some of you really need to go back to high school so you can remember just how young these players are. It’s a big change going from “Me” basketball in high school to team basketball.

Sarr had a great first half. Why? He has experience. Mintz is still a bit shaky because he’s still trying to find how he fits in among freshman who are more talented and athletic than him. It’s the beginning of the season.

Calm down. 😂
I don't worry about something I can't control. Life is too short.
