We walked up the stadium around 2:15 (would have been earlier but we went by Wal Mart to pick up rain jackets, good thing too) and didn't get in until close to 2:40. Not to mention it started pissing down rain on the people waiting in the long *** line at the gate. By the time we got to the gate they had given up on the scanners and were just tearing the tickets.

I was impressed by a lot of things, but that's an area where improvement is needed. There were a lot of people bitching in the line.

...the woman who took my ticket attempted to scan it three times and just gave up, returned it to me, and told me to go on in. And it was like that for most folks ahead of me in line, too.

We either need to upgrade scanners, or upgrade ticket takers.

the visitors entrance on the west side had nobody entering (around section D-midfield), yet msu people were made to wait in line for 30 minutes at all other entrances,. I felt sorry for the people at the gates (they were in a no win situation). So you had one main entrance with nobody allowed to enter, then angry fans at all other entrances. It has to be fixed. I almost took my 5 year old son and went home before the game. On top of the ticket fiasco,, I got to parking lot 7 and there were no spaces because they allowed people to jump curbs that didn't have passes to lot 7. I won't even complain about the time it took to get from one side of campus to the other.

when you can wait until 30 min. before game time and walk up to the gate and go right in. Hopefully the team will play good, win some games and the crowds will keep coming

for those concerned about having cowbells taken. I talked with the guy in charge of the ticket takers at my gate. He emphasized they were only searching bags. Translation - hide your cowbell under your coat or shirt, and you will have no problem.

Byrne discussed this on the post game show. He said that the gates will be discussed first thing along with the traffic before the game. Like it or not it is a good problem to have for the first game. We were not prepared because it had never happened before. When I was trying to get on campus in front of the light at the Comfort Suites, the whole intersection turned into one big cluster 17. Cars were wedged in there from every direction and finally a cop came up to get traffic flowing. I heard him say that he had worked game days for years and they have never had to work that light before the game.

and that is that he listens to the fans and he responds. He'll get this fixed. It's really a great thing to have an AD who is responsive.

Here's a simple common sense fix. You got a ticket, you get in the stadium through ANY gate. Once through a gate, you're free to go anywhere in the stadium anyway so it shouldn't matter what gate you go through. Long line at gate "A", then go in gate "B" with a shorter line.

I understand the concept about going in the assigned gate to prevent traffic jams inside the stadium but, given the choice, most fans would enter their assigned gate anyway as it's the closest to their seat.

Another fix, double the number of scanners per gate. Two per gate is too few. If one gate gets backed up while another gate is slow on traffic, those scanners at the slow gate should shift to the busier gate.

I have gone in 3 gates I can think of an nobody ever said anything.

I sit on the east side. They let a JSU fan with tickets in the 300 level on the west side in an east gate?

Went to the main gate, line all the way around the side of the stadium. As we neared the back of the line, we noticed that the side gates were open. Police and event staff were at the gate. Basically they just told us to hold our ticket in the air as we passed through the gate. 2 minutes to get in.

Edit to add: During the rain, Byrne was standing on the sideline in his maroon blazer with the team. Did I mention how much I like this guy?

The whole rest of the world scans tickets. This was our first time to do it in football. We just have some kinks to work out, I guess.

Didn't we scan basketball tickets this past season?

Stop being SHEEP people. If you see an open gate with a ticket taker, USE THAT GATE. You don't have to get on the longest line because your sheep brain can't fathom doing something that the herd is not doing. I walked right up to the gate and saw a ticket taker standing at the end of an empty line and walked right up and she scanned my ticket without a hitch and I walked in. All the other sheep in the longer line looked at me like sheep do with that confused look in their eyes and then some of the sheep actually got out of their line and went through the empty one. Stop being sheep people. God gave you a human brain, use it.

I have always been one of "those people" that will drive down the dirt on the side of the road before I wait in line to take a right. People honk and get pissed and maybe what I'm doing is ********, but it gets me to where I want to go faster. Don't wait behind the people turning left and going straight when you can use the side of the road to take a right.

My point is that entering a football game with bourbon, a cowbell, and at the wrong gate is EVERY MAN FOR HIMSELF. The ticket takers are human too and be convinced to let you in at any moment. If you see a line then go to it. I look at it the same way I look at hooking up..... The worst think she could say is no!
