Any word on how Daton's training is coming along?

Like all of you, I'm pulling for this young man to succeed at the highest levels. I hope he's healthy and on track for what the next few months will bring. If any of y'all happen to have any Daton news, it would be appreciated.

The national team camp is underway at the OTC. Alex is there, I'm guessing Daton is too. The Pan Am qualifier is next month. Daton will likely get the opportunity to earn the 57 kg spot for the USA.

Other than the fact that he lost last month to Gilman I have no information.

The measure of greatness is the ability to adapt and improve. Losses at this point should only be used to hone his skill. Let’s hope it does

I also thought it would be a foolish thing to do.But I also thought going with Joe over Chandler was foolish. It would put them in the running for 3rd at Ncaa.I just don't see it happening.I listened again and he said the message was from Adam Fellers. He was a teammate of Mark Perry at Iowa

FWIW, when John originally announced Daton's ORS, he said the plan would only change if it benefited Daton's Olympic goals. So Daton & the coaches would now have think it's better for him to wrestle the college season. Team goals are secondary this year.

Hearing Gilman to PanAms.

That could lend some support to Daton possibly coming out of the ORS then. Snyder did it in 2016, plus Daton said last year's college grind helped prepare him for the US Open. We'll see I guess.

How would Fix come out of ORS benefit anyone? Doesn't benefit him, doesn't benefit the team, so who does it benefit, why was this even suggested?

Seems obvious it would benefit both him and the program if he's not getting enough match time.

National titles, you know.

How so? Do we need him to beat OU - no. Will we beat Iowa with Fix in the lineup - no ... well might be closer if Fix 125 & Picc 133 but bet he didn't cert @ 125. Does it really matter if we place 6th at nationals vs 8th - no. Actually hurts the team at this point because Witcraft is wrestling well and would deny him more tournament experience to build toward a team that can place next year & following. Dont think it helps Fix at all, no folk this season, thrown into tournaments, plus chance of injuring in folk going into peaking for trials. He is more likely to win ncaa title next year & two following than this year.

Clearly this decision would be about making Daton as good as he can be going into the Trials, everything else is a distant 2nd. I'll go ahead and defer to the people training him on this one.

I don't think we know if anyone actually suggested it. This is just talk based on what Askren said. But I'm for whatever helps Daton make the Olympic Team.

I'm for whatever helps OSU wrestling and helps the team get to 35. If Daton can't win the trials he probably can't place at Olympics so perhaps we should send someone else, I personally hope that isn't Gilman but if he is the best he should represent our country. Now if you are Daton's dad then I certainly understand. :)

Man, if Daton thinks wrestling for OSU this year will benefit him in his pursuit of his Olympic dream, then he should do it. At this level, a lot of it is mental, and if it is something that he thinks would make him mentally stronger, or just give him more confidence, then pul the trigger.

But it has to be Daton who believes it.

57kg at the Olympic trials is going to be crazy! Gilman, Fix, Lee, Nato, Gross, Suriano. I'm sure I'm missing some studs, but I think Lee takes the 57 spot, even tho I think Fix is more athletic and bigger. Gross sucking down to 57 makes for some interesting matchups.
133 in NCAA's is already stacked but if no one was taking their olyshirt it may have been the best ever.
