Any silver lining to losing last night?

......at least we won't keep hearing announcers talk about how Rutgers has sucked for what seems like a lifetime......Despite being in the Tournament this year it doesn't help our reputation to hear how much Rutgers has been a doormat for so many years. The positive of 20121 is overwhelmed by the " It's been over 30 years since we made the Dance and even longer to have won a game."

lol.....

If I had told you before the game that Rutgers would fight hard and lose a close one by 2-3 points, 99.9999994% of you would have taken it in a heartbeat and paid me cash in advance to make it true.

heartbreaking...... but, wonderful ride in a crazy year.

you don't need to be happy - but, if you can't see a silver lining...

Nope. I'm excited for the future. We won a game, blew a huge chance to make the Sweet 16 and Pike, the coaches and the players should be hungry for more.

When do players have to decide if they are coming back?
I hope the decision is made soon after the NCAA Tournament ends. The coaching staff needs to contact players in the transfer portal where there will be plenty of competition among schools for the best players.Rutgers doesn't need more complementary type players. They need a power forward that can rebound and score. They also need the best available shooter regardless of position.

I don't think anyone would have paid you for a certain close loss lol.

Silver Lining is that a winning culture has been established with Rutgers Hoops.

Do we know that? Same thing was said after the 76 RU team went to FF.

We need to recruit at a higher level than what Pike has done to date. It’s up to him to leverage the NCAA win to get better players from hs and the portal. That will determine if RU can continue to rise as a program imo.

Right. Is that a serious post--losing but being close?

If you mean back in November--making the Dance, winning a game, losing game two in a heartbreaker, I'd have taken it, but that would be November, not yesterday morning!

No Silver Lining...was a heartbreaking loss!

Only thing I can see coming from it are that returning players will have the eye of the tiger !

Hopefully Coaching Staff learns from it but I sense Pike is too stubborn (Schiano - esque)- albeit a terrific HC.

These players can play with any team in the country. That’s a building block for a program.

Yeah, the only silver lining is avoiding a potential loss to saracuse and have to listen to my friend say we should be called the University of NJ.

The silver lining is that we got to that game in the first place. It's amazing how quickly people went from considering a winning record a success, to the second round of the NCAA, and losing a tight game to a #2 seed, as a failure that needs a silver lining.

Silver lining?

Yeah, we didn’t close the bars last night and I got a pretty good night of sleep prior to our 9 1/2 hour drive back to New Jersey, with zero hangover conditions!!

Have a feeling that would not have been the case had we won ha ha ha ha!

All seven other B1G teams that have lost so far have either a) been blown out, or b) lost to severe underdogs. Ours is the only team that didn't embarrass itself.

It is impossible to prove a hypothetical. But i truly believe if we played even one NCAA game last season we would be playing a Syracuse team we ran out of the gym earlier this season (without Geo) on Saturday.

So my silver lining is this team has gotten better for five straight years under this coach. I think this is the beginning of the memories this HC makes On The Banks. I'd be shocked if '20-'21 is the high water mark for Coach Pikiell.

I swear Im not trying to single you out but our fanbase has such a loser’s mentality. No other power 5 school thinks like this.

no problem. it's cool.

I'm not trying to single you out - but our many in our fanbase have such a over-dramatic mentality. 36 years since we get, even a sniff, of a NCAA victory, we are one of the heaviest underdogs in round two - we almost win - but don't, in a heartbreaking fashion. and yet, large sections of our fanbase sit around and think their complaining about a game they probably didn't get on a plane and flyout for and pay to see - but sat on their asses used covid as an excuse and now they whine that some 18-23 year old kids, who fought their souls out for you, who haven't seen family or friends, some going on 9 months, who wanted to win 1000-times more than you ever will - who know exactly what was wrong and what happened - and when some people point out that it was frustrating - but still an amazing giant step along an amazing journey for a program that was (without question) the worst in P5 and in the bottom 10% of all of D1 BBall for more than a generation, that it isn't the end - but merely another step forward -and even if you think all that, it doesn't mean you can't find fault (a lot of fault) in how that last game unfolded -- but, if you can't find, at least some, silver lining in all of that, it doesn't make you soft or a loser - but simply someone who can step-back and appreciate the battle and the effort and be hungry for more - even if your still heartbroken and replaying those last 4 minutes in your head.

but, sure - we have a lot of losers mentalities around here - feel free to count me amongst them if you want.
