Any reports on Peter Kiss

I've been told he looks good in practice but that the coaches believe it for real when the lights go on.
A word of caution: We have had many reports over the years about how promising transfers and first year ineligibles have looked in practice. Proper restraint on expectations is advised until we see them in action.
I remember being told Wally judge was dominant in practice and would be a force once eligible...
Couldn’t agree with you more. Though I’m always hopeful.
He shot 75% from the free throw line, that will help. He will probably be the 3rd option on offense when he's in the game, and he's shown he can hit the 3 when he's open. That will help too. He will be a piece, just like everyone else is a piece in a build.
Pikiell is going to fix this not with one superstar, but with a deep team of good players. Mathis, Kiss, Carter, Baker, Thiam, Doucoure, you can see it starting, but this is 2 more years of recruiting. Adding Mulcahy and Hyatt will continue that if they can. This is a team that will defend, rebound, and share the ball.

I don't think anyone had unrealistic expectations about transfers....most times they've delivered to their talent levels..
While Nigel Johnson probably looked to score a little more than a guard should have inside the paint, it would be wrong to discount that he did have a couple of big games...
The one open practice, Kiss can help with the simple play like making the extra pass, rebounding and knocking down an occasional jumper.
I guess there are still fans that take on the thought that if a player is mentioned positively as being able to contribute or help RU, that player isn't any good unless they immediately become the best player on the roster.
There are so many gaps to fill right now, I don't see how anyone sees Kiss, Mathis and Harper as not having an impact....any of the 3 can have a big game on occasion next year.

Excellent. A succinct description of exactly what Pikiell has been doing. I will only add to the above that the build speeds up if there is a transfer out of a player that is not contributing, and Pikes can replace with B1G talent.
Also, with more offensive talent, we can run different and better offensive sets, which alone will equal more points scored.

to expand a bit on that, I would discount any summer league results... we had a few bigs that played in them years ago, who put up good numbers there, and it never seemed to happen during the regular season.
Remember Gene & Paul badmouth each other much less anyone else in the band.
His shot will get better as his selection improves. He was on an poor quinnipiac team where his usage was very high.
For sure. Kiss will likely start. You think Williams will be back? I hope so. The reports are good. He wasn’t exactly lights out but the team is playing without a soul right now with him out.
Where is Kiss going to start? I suppose it's possible if Corey leaves, but even if he does I wouldn't be surprised if the starting line-up is Geo, Mathis, Thiam.
Wow. That’s good to hear if he’s expected to start. I would have expected Mathis over him. That’s encouraging.
KISS has a year at d1 level with success, even at a midmajor. Just my thought. Only the coaches know who will start. I believe Pikiell mentioned something about Thiam and starting at the court club recently. Maybe someone can clarify that.

Has anyone here seen Mathis play, other than just seen his highlights, because his highlights alone don't nearly suggest him starting.
I was there. Pikiell said, "On a good team, Thiam comes off the bench as instant offense. Hopefully we'll be a good team next year."
That's not "Peter Kiss will start and Thiam will come off the bench."
I only saw Mathis play in a HS game on TV a few weeks ago and he didn't really show much.
However, he seems to be very highy regarded and the UConn board was crying quite a bit when they lost him to us.
No one knows who will start at this point but I think a lot of people are overestimating Kiss. He took a lot of shots against weaker competition and didn't have a very good %. He shot 41% and not even 28% from 3.
By comparison, Thiam was shooting 43% and almost 39% from 3 before today.

Just peoples opinions. Absolutely no one knows who will start. It’s also hard to say Mathis will be on instant starter as a freshman. Baker started, but people could see why. Mathis is not a long range scorer, and that is what’s needed. I think Pikiell will demand Kiss get better shots. I do believe next year will be a lot more fast paced attack and more full court presses, etc. The depth should be greater than this year.
The best thing for this program would be for Sanders to come back and improve his shooting, while allowing Mathis and Kiss to begin their careers as key contributors off the bench. This probably benefits everyone involved.
As for Thiam, I think he can really be a difference maker for this program with continued development. His length and shooting should make him a reliable scorer. He definitely needs to get stronger and develop his game more.
