Any interest in another GM Draft thread this summer?

These have been a ton of fun the last several years, and with the NBA finals over, I think most sports fans need a basketball fix to get them through the summer.

Anyone interested in doing another one this year? I'd be open to the standard one, another all-time draft, and maybe a UK/college related one in addition to the other pro-centric draft.

For those who don't know what I'm talking about, the last several years a group of us (12-15 posters) have acted as general managers of imaginary franchises in a world where all NBA eligible players are in a draft pool.

The goal is to create the team "fans would most want to be a fan of for the next ___ years." The draft order is randomized, serpentine style, and the GM's draft a 10-12 man roster.

Matchups are then randomly assigned and the two owners make their case for their team, with rafters posters casting their votes in 24-48 hour polls. Winners advance until we have a champion.


We've had some consistent names the last few years, just looking to see if anyone wants to start one up this year. This isn't really an official sign up, just gauging interest.

Fire it up whenever. A week seems long since we did two days for the other rounds, but at this point I can't imagine anyone being up in arms over it lol.

Yeah, a full week might be too long. I'll post the poll on Monday and we will go 3 days. And then maybe we can start the Draft around the time the poll is ending.

I'll be traveling for 2 days next week, so may miss following the thread closely for those days. Gonzo could you message me your email? That way I can give you a list of 5-6 guys when it's close to my pick and you draft the guy on top of my list. It'd help move it along quicker for you all on those days should I be on the clock at any point.

Would anyone have interest in drafting a current/unemployed coach for our teams?

Last year we built a team to compete for 5 years, but I'm not sure how well that translates when it comes to voting.

One suggestion would be to construct the best team to compete next season, and remove some of the guesswork.

We might limit the number of recent all stars any one person can draft, to add some challenge.

What about making some players ineligible like Lebron, Steph, Davis, etc.? Some people (myself included) just can't get over the mind block of some players being so great that they just can't be beat. I would almost instinctively pick any team with Lebron as the best, just because he's the best.

For example I looked at LukaszObrzut's roster last year and it is far more "complete" than mine was..... but I got to draft earlier in the order and picked up Durant. So I immediately had more star-power on my roster. Just a thought.
