and he could blame him...laugh.Originally posted by acp_10:
Gottfried did his own self in. They basically had to fire him for off the court issues. He was too busy banging coeds than coaching.Originally posted by UK3Pointer:
Alabama obviously made a mistake forcing Gottfried to resign. At the time, Grant seemed like a good choice given that he was on Donovan's staff, but it was definitely time to part ways. I like the idea of throwing a lot of money at Marshall and making him say no. I also like the idea of having Stansbury in mind as a back up plan if someone like Howland doesn't materialize.
His freshman year he was at Morehead. He played at Newport Central Catholic.Originally posted by HeismanWildcat85:
I just saw that John Brannen has been named the interim coach. He was one of my counselors at Marshall's basketball camp when I was a kid and was a total dick back then.
He had UCLA teams with Kevin Love, Russell Westbrook, Aaron Aflalo, Darren Collison, Luc Mbah-a-Moute, Jrue Holiday, Kyle Anderson, Jordan Farmar, Ryan Hollins, Trevor Ariza, Jordan Adams, etc... He brought in a boatload of talent and was successful for a stretch, but he had so much talent. He dropped off as soon as he stopped having future NBA point guards. And his system was so constricting that various stat forecasts (for the NBA draft) had to institute special rules for UCLA players. Be an interesting hire.Originally posted by acp_10:
Granted it's UCLA, Howland took UCLA to 2 final fours and a national championship game. He kind of faltered there at the end, but he still made the NCAA tourney with a 25-10 record in his last season before UCLA fired him.Originally posted by TideMan09:
Exactly..I hope we do throw a bunch of $$$$ at Marshall as well & make him say no to us like you say..Like I say I don't keep up with college B'Ball like I do college football..Is Howland a really good coach & would be a hire that would bring that fire back to Bama B'Ball????
He also took Pittsburgh to two straight Sweet 16's. He's a pretty proven head coach for us.
I'd much rather have him than Stansbury. Honestly, I don't want Stansbury at all. Pearl would coach circles around him.
I think this would be a good hire for Bama. He has been doing a good job at Murray, did not realize he was a Bama grad.Originally posted by CATSrock:
I could see Bama taking a look at Steve Prohm from Murray. He's a Bama grad and was an assistant there as well. Possible concern would be taking a chance w a 'mid major' coach.
I second that....I love beating this guy.Originally posted by Chairman Meow:

I think Bama should hire this guy...
He's a Bama grad and he is on record saying "I HATE KENTUCKY"!!!!
On a more serious note, he has taken Texas Southern to the NCAA Tourney each of the last 2 years.
