Another travel question

Leaving today going to 30A (Santa Rosa beech). Leaving from Winona area. Maps gave us 2 options to get to Mobile.

Vaiden-Kosciusko-Philadelphia-Waynesboro-Mobile-Santa Rosa is the shortest route. 719 miles 7 hrs and 1 minute. I know Vaiden- Philadelphia is mostly 2 lane. How about Philadelphia- Waynesboro? 2 or 4 lane? Any construction going on? Never been on that road before?

Option 2: I55 to 49-49 to Hattiesburg-Hattiesburg-Mobile- Santa Rosa is 750 miles and 7 hrs, 5 min. I know 49 is still under construction and is awful at times from Richland-Florence. Was on that stretch 2 weeks ago (when they were asphalt chewing, cleaning, repaving, packing, and striping in all at same time) in Collins. If I’m going to waste 1 hour of my time it would be at Collins zoo, not stuck in traffic jam in Collins***!

What say ye wise travelers?

My only advice is to stop at the Buc-ees east of the bay.

It definitely takes forever to get in and out of that place. Not worth the hype for the hour delay it causes.

719 and 750 miles in around 7 hours is over 100 mph where I come from... You need a bumper sticker that says eat my rubber 61.

49 is awful. I’d get on 45 as fast as I could and go that route.

Best bet is to go 49 to H'burg then 98 to Mobile. Next is a short cut I learned that will avoid the Mobile traffic and the tunnel: Once you get through Semmes take a left at Bear Fork Rd for about 4 miles. Right on St. Stephens Rd for 1/2 mile to I-65. Go north on I-65 for about a mile and take I-165 and get off at the Africatown bridge exit (maybe 2 mi). This is Old Spanish Trail Dr. Follow it and look for the I-10 East exit and you will miss the Mobile / tunnel traffic.

If you go Hwy 45 through Waynesboro, it's all 4 lane until you get to AL. It's a 2 lane road for at least an hour and you never know what you will get stuck behind. Going this way, you can also go over the Africatown bridge as well.

No don’t spend that much time on moffet. When you top the hill into semmes take a left on 27, right on 217 then left at schillinger to get to 158. From there you can get on Africa town bridge to miss moffet road traffic and the tunnel.

Unless you catch it at a particularly bad time, the construction only adds about 10 minutes, at the most, to the drive. Save some cooler room and stop by the Country Pleasin' HQ on your way back. Take the Africatown bridge in Mobile. Route 1 will probably take you on some frustrating two lane roads.
