Another stinker for Paul

We were stuck in the corner because Geo was caught in the corner before the timeout. That was our LAST timeout. He HAD to throw it in or get a 5 second call. He did his best. NOT Paul’s fault. Blame Pikiell.
My issue was everyone else was a mile away from Paul at the start of the inbound. Should have had at least 3 guys in backcourt for Paul but everyone had to run back towards our baseline taking time off the 5 second limit.

PM tying up Harrar for a held ball, possession RU in the 1st half was one of the highlights of this game. Did he play as well as he did during our stretch of beating top 25 teams? No. Was it a stinker? Come on now.

We have several Rutgers fans who for whatever reason will bash PM at the slightest underwhelming game . Why not ask his coaches and teammates how they view his overall play and contributions …good and bad. Be careful when you believe some of the negativity on this board regarding players. At many schools fans who most likely never played beyond perhaps grade school act like authorities on what they perceive in how the players perform. Mulcahy knows better than all of us when he doesn’t meet his or the teams expectations.

It’s called looking beyond the box score. Watch the game with your eyes and if you know the game, your eyes tell you if they played well or not. Paul does so many things that go beyond box

Should never have come down to this play How many open 3’s from the corner were we allowing them to get back in the game. Every time during their run they had a man unguarded in the corner for an open 3 and we never adjusted.
If you watched PSU warm up they ran the plays for corner three's over and over and over again. I give them credit for practicing plays in the warmups vs. everyone just making layups and free shooting. Guys moving and passing and moving and passing till the get the corner shot.

I am a huge PM fan and am usually one to defend him. But yesterday he was awful. He dribbled into a double or triple team at least three times. He's holding the ball way too long and dribbling to nowhere. The whole offensive flow breaks down each time he does this. I'm not talking about backing down a defender from the corner or elbow, which is fine. I'm talking about taking the ball at the top of the key and then dribbling in circles as defenders close in on him and eventually surround him, leaving him nowhere to go with the ball. The worst thing that happened for Paul was when he got away with it once in the 2nd half and scored. After that, it was like he had the green light. He needs to keep the ball moving.

I completely agree with this Mike but overall I can't say he was awful. These movements certainly were but there was a lot of other things he did well.

he wasn't bad at all, just a couple mistakes here and there, but you can easily point out that Harper had a lot more mistakes this game. Yes Paul had those moments where he would try to force his way into doubles. The main thing that Paul did that was different versus some of the past games was that instead of just trying to jam in there and force a shot and hope for a foul call, he was more patient and made some very good passes after pulling the defense in.

How many people started threads about Geo or Ron with this title? I was furious with PM on how he handled the end of the Indy game. Unacceptable. But this game is just nit picking. In his most important shot, he definitely got fouled and it wasn't called. He backs in all the time. If defenders converge, he passes the ball. He is one of the leading assist guys in the conference. Many seem not to understand this. He is a very good player and will be on the pre season all conference teams next year.

This kid takes too much flak from “ fans” I’ll leave it at that. Too many trolls on board who criticize whenever THIER expectations are not met. The game on Saturday was not a stinker by any means for PM.

Paul is a talent that gives us energy and bleeds scarlet red!

Note: The defender on the poor inbounds pass was well over the end line trying to block it.
Should have been whistled for illegal defense.
