He may very well come back, but it goes against everything Cal has ever believed, and all the advice he’s ever given as it pertains to the draft. First rounders should go, and top 10 should definitely go.

How many players over the years has Cal told us “he’s a first rounder, he had to go”. Or “he’s a top 10 pick, I wouldn’t let him come back”?

Many will recall this all started with Cousins. It was widely reported that Cousins wanted to come back but Cal wouldn’t let him due to his top-10 draft projection (he went #5). And Cal was right in the Cousins example.

Sharpe is currently projected in the top-10 (#7 the last I checked). So now, all-of-sudden, Cal is recommending (allowing) a top-10 pick come back? Seems to 100% contradict how he’s handled these types of scenarios for his entire career.
It doesn’t really, in the postgame show cal said if he’s guaranteed top 5 then he’s gone, cousins wasn’t just top 10 he was in the top 3 in most mock drafts at the time.

I wouldn't give anyone heat. I just think it is silly when people try and act like they know one way or the other. Everyone has an opinion but I'd be shocked if anyone on this board knows anything with certainty.
I don't claim any inside info, just basing thoughts on how Cal has handled highly rated draft picks in the past and the Diallo situation a few years ago(yes I know this case is different) but if Diallo had been a top 20 pick he would have been gone without ever playing.

I don't dislike Matt Jones but he gets so many things wrong it's hard to believe him.
As do the posters on here with sources. It’s going to be a wait and see on Sharpe and to be honest, no one knows what the kid is going to do in the end.
That’s a lot of money but going against grown men will put you in the back of the line if you’re not careful. The second contract is what he would be proving he deserves and that will be tough if he’s not ready.

There absolutely would not be anything inconsistent or contradictory if Cal recommended Sharpe come back and play for a higher draft position. Sharpe's family is comfortable financially whereas most of the young men like Cousins and Bledsoe came from less financially secure backgrounds. Apples vs oranges here folks.

It’s all going to depend of a lot of external factors. He may very well try to test the waters too, which is. It going to be fun for any of us fans waiting to see. Teams may shuffle around picks and trades depending on what happens in said combine as well.

IF Sharpe tests the waters and does really well, and a team makes him an offer, man, I just don’t see how you turn down guaranteed money. Has a guaranteed Top Ten pick ever come back?

I understand that. But the topic of the thread is that a source is guaranteeing his return seemingly irregardless of draft position. Why would a source say that knowing that Cal himself won’t let them return for sure if they’re top 10, and typically if they’re first round?

Because the qualifier is guaranteed top 5 not just top 10 or first round that’s where you’re making your mistake and I’m guessing this source is assuming that he will not get the guarantee top 5 promise

I like how it says he is sharing their opinion. Even if your close who cares about an opinion? We need facts, we get enough opinions on this site daily.

I don’t claim to know anything except what my gut tells me. I don’t think he’ll play a game here, but will GLADLY eat a plateful of crow if I’m wrong.

And that source may assume that indeed. But if he is “top 10” guaranteed, then he’s gone because Cal will not let him stay. At least Cal’s history says he won’t let him stay. Which again, the source should know this, and it’s on draft boards everywhere that he’s top 10, so why would the source say he’s coming back 100%?

This is a pretty deep draft and I think for sharpe to break into the top 5 he’s gonna have to be the best player in the combine. Even that may not break him into top 5

Listened to podcast of show from yesterday...siap but Jones said that Thursday night one of about three people he trusts who are very close to the staff shared an opinion on Sharpe.

The person said he would bet Jones all of the money they have that Sharpe is back next year and that the folks speculating he won't be are just dead wrong.

Anyhow, just sharing. Jones didn't share who person was but again was clear it was someone with ties to program. Perhaps Beisner, Barton? Who knows...
Can we stop posting about people who are not really a member of our beloved Cats? Cal has a history of pushing kids out to the NBA who weren't projected to be drafted nearly as high as Sharpe. So, there is no need to keep posting about someone who hasn't nor never will play for UK. This is just another scam Cal is executing on UK fans. He is just another player soon to be in the NBA who Cal can claim came through the Wildcats' program.

Look above you at Gharding.
They are saying that they hope he comes back. Can you find someone that is actually saying he is definitely coming back? Because there are people saying he is definitely leaving. And definitely no one knows anything.

You can choose not to open the post, I know that much.

I thought people would be interested to read what Jones said....simple as that.

Since there are 64 responses and 2k views I guess people did want to see it.

Continue on with your "Cal scam" rant...

I’ll believe it when I see it. Archie Goodwin said anyone on his team who thought going pro was a fool. Declared for the draft first.

Hami swore up and down he wouldn’t leave when he arrived. Went to the combine and only came back because he didn’t like the news.

I know there’s definitely more like those but those stood out. Not to mention all the re classes in recruiting that swear up and down they aren’t re classing until they do.

I haven’t called SS anything mean and I haven’t seen too many posters do so. Really only 1 comes to mind. But taking athletes at their word just isn’t a smart bet. I tend to believe what has happened in the history of the sport with athletes in his position. And I have not seen a top 10 pick ever return to UK. And I cannot remember a top 10 pick returning for another school in the last decade.

These are the facts, I hope he changes this mindset and does it. If he gets huge NIL and goes number 1 I could see some more top 5 guys try this.
