Listened to podcast of show from yesterday...siap but Jones said that Thursday night one of about three people he trusts who are very close to the staff shared an opinion on Sharpe.

The person said he would bet Jones all of the money they have that Sharpe is back next year and that the folks speculating he won't be are just dead wrong.

Anyhow, just sharing. Jones didn't share who person was but again was clear it was someone with ties to program. Perhaps Beisner, Barton? Who knows...

So Ryan is spreading more lies. Like CJ has a broken leg etc.

Sadly, if he does come back, the people here that bashed him or his family or Cal (or all of them) will just brush it under the rug and keep running around acting the fool.
i do not think the posters on this board should let that happen
after some have called Cal, SS and the people around him liars before anything has happened
they should be held accountable

Well, since we KNOW he isn't going to play this season, all we can do is wait, see, and hope he and all involved are telling the truth. As with anyone in life, I will choose to believe them until proven otherwise.
We could have another really good team next season with SS being the focal point.

I don't dislike Matt Jones but he gets so many things wrong it's hard to believe him.

Yeah, well again this wasn't his opinion, just him sharing what he was told...highly doubt he was just making it up.

You are correct in him getting stuff wrong often. Just a few seconds before he shared the Sharpe story they were talking about memorable Florida games.

The Jayson Williams game from '98 was brought up by Lemond. They started talking about how he and Mills both had around 30 points and we lost. Jones then said something like, "yeah, we weren't very good that year" and it wasn't tongue in cheek.

Well, after we lost that UF game and we promptly went 16-1 to cut down #7....I think that was a decent year 😆. Fwiw no one corrected him and I listened to 60% of the show at least. However, someone did correct Lemond for saying storm courting instead of court storming...

He may very well come back, but it goes against everything Cal has ever believed, and all the advice he’s ever given as it pertains to the draft. First rounders should go, and top 10 should definitely go.

How many players over the years has Cal told us “he’s a first rounder, he had to go”. Or “he’s a top 10 pick, I wouldn’t let him come back”?

Many will recall this all started with Cousins. It was widely reported that Cousins wanted to come back but Cal wouldn’t let him due to his top-10 draft projection (he went #5). And Cal was right in the Cousins example.

Sharpe is currently projected in the top-10 (#7 the last I checked). So now, all-of-sudden, Cal is recommending (allowing) a top-10 pick come back? Seems to 100% contradict how he’s handled these types of scenarios for his entire career.

Coming from someone who is usually very pessimistic about these things, I think I agree.

I'm not pessimistic, but I do tend to agree. I don't want to argue about it because I see the other sides view. I just don't get why he would have turned down the opportunity to make money and play if he truly had millions of dollars that he could have made like his coach said.

Also there is the Shai piece...this is someone Cal has a prior relationship with and the fact Sharpe could be #1 pick next year. The draft class next year is nowhere near as top heavy as it stands now. Lastly, I refuse to believe Cal and UK would mislead the fan base in such an egregious way if the intention was for Sharpe to never play here. If so, they are totally disconnected with reality of the consequences of such an error.

That said, I'm definitely more of a glass half full guy.

Agree...but to play devil's advocate this is a totally different scenario and we have never had anyone who could move to a Top 10 pick.

A comparison would be if this happened with John Wall. What if Wall reclassified and sat out half a year? Was projected to go #7 and Cal told him if you play you be Number 1. The difference in money is significant and so are the endorsement opportunities from jump street.

All that said, it could go either way and I do see where he could leave to get a jump start on the rookie contract and be a year closer to 2nd deal.

But is the kid ready? Jumping from HS to NBA isn't a walk in the park. Only all time greats have been truly successful...Kobe, Garnett, etc.

agreed on all accounts. Especially what you said about how egregious the lie would be at this point. I don’t think cal would set himself up for that.

And if he does come back next year we’ll be at least as good as we have been this year right? Some really important pieces coming back along with finally getting the talent that’s been on our bench all season long out on the court. Should be another fun season

Fair points, 100%. And the NIL money obviously could play a role in lessening the importance of leaving for $$$.

But let’s assume that’s the case; that he stays to improve his draft stock from #7 to potentially #1. That means Cal believes he’s good enough to be the #1 draft pick. That would mean, hypothetically, that we have a guy good enough to go #1 overall just sitting the bench with no plans to play this season. It’s all very interesting indeed.

Storm courting's what you do in a blizzard; pass time while the lights are out...

Doubt it's Beisner. Jones said the guy said he would bet every dollar he has and Jones said he didn't have as many dollars as this guy. Guessing Jones is a multimillionaire and I would be surprised if Beisner is.

Historically, Cal urging players to go to the NBA if they are guaranteed a favorable draft position, is accurate. Cal helped, whether you agree or not, many of these kids escape generational poverty. Not all, but many. With the NIL deals that Sharpe is already involved in and with the potential for even larger deals if he comes back, Cal can with good conscience adapt his thinking somewhat. We will see.

I have been vocal about Sharpe not playing and not returning. I still don't think he will return. If he does I will gladly eat crow and and take(with a smile) whatever heat the board dishes out.

I wouldn't give anyone heat. I just think it is silly when people try and act like they know one way or the other. Everyone has an opinion but I'd be shocked if anyone on this board knows anything with certainty.

And NOTHING could be better for the PROGRAM. I’ve never complained about top-10 picks leaving. But I’ve bitched for years over the fringe first-rounders leaving.

If Cal sees an avenue where it would be more lucrative for a fringe first rounder to stay, then maybe he will start convincing these kids to come back. And maybe, perhaps, he should.

Well, if anyone can find out who MJ was referring to, I’ll happily contact him and take him up on his bet!

The only way SS returns is if the NBA goes out of business, and then he’d just go play professionally somewhere else anyway. So zero chance on him returning. Jones and others will continue to fan the flames in the meantime.

Now, back to the championship run with the guys who do want to play for the name on the front of the jersey!

Hope his source is correct but we have become a NBA farm team. Someone needs to break the cycle of kids leaving early whether their ready or not or projected high or not.
