Oddly enough here in Phoenix Channel 3 has been refuting it all morning, so I guess it was leaked ahead of schedule. I like Mike Norvell of Memphis and formerly of ASU as our Option B, but ASU may nab him first.

Not a big surprise. That is one school with the right coach that can be very good.
Years ago when the Suns and ASU were the big dogs, I think that was true but not so sure it’s true anymore. I think the firing was based on the last three years performance and the prospect that 7-5 might be a new ceiling for Graham. But Graham also has a bit of Pelini in him and that surely didn’t help him.

Pro sports dominate metro Phoenix and that is reflected in attendance. ASU is completing a substantial reduction of seats, which is great from a seat width and legroom perspective but also seems to be a tacit acknowledgement that ASU football is no longer a big deal. I usually attend a couple games and the vibe is pretty laid back including lots of late arrives and early departers. I personally believe the UofA job is now better because college sports have no competition in Tucson. I’m assuming fan support is a must, but perhaps NU proves it is overrated:Cool:

I know every year it seems there are more and more coach firings, but this year seems crazy with the number of big time job openings.

Nebraska, Florida, Arkansas, A&M, UCLA, Arizona State are some doozies.

And you even forgot about Tennessee... Might be a bad time trying to find the right fit I just hope we aren't one of them that will end up disappointed.

Most speculate Kevin Sumlin will end up at ASU.

Sumlin will almost certainly be let go this morning also.

Remember when Graham was a hot name for the NU job back a few years ago.
Wow did we get lucky although he probably would have won more than Riley. But after seeing him interviewed many times here on local TV, I am so happy he’s leaving. I wouldn’t even buy a car from the guy.

Almost all of my friends are ASU fans and they still brag about that game. We were two-time defending NC so it was/is a big deal for them. Scott was overmatched that game, which was only his second or third start and the ASU defense was very good.
Lots of NFL players as it turned out on the ASU team that year.

I remember the QB and WR being good. Jake....and...,??
Randall McDaniel was all pro for years for the Vikings. There was another OLineman I think as well who played for years in the NFL and then I seem to recall a D lineman and defensive backs that made rosters but I could be wrong. Tough environment for an inexpereinced QB. Kind of like Lee's game at Oregon after transferring in and sitting out a year.Winking

Pat Tillman was a LB in college. Derrick Rodgers caused a lot of trouble in the offensive backfield that night in Tempe and Mitchell "Fright Night" Freedman was a super hard hitting safety....
