Good chance for you mountain people to try my favorite food, NC bbq. My favorite in the whole state is Skylight Inn in Ayden. What you got?
Several good ones on the way along I40. Stamey's in Greensboro being one. Also my favorite food, usually bring a cooler full back any time I’m out that way. But overall living in the mountains a better deal. Favorite used to be Scott’s in Goldsboro before it closed. Q Shack in Durham not really the type of BBQ you’re talking, but probably where I’d go if I was going to the games.
I usually get hungry way before Greensboro haha. Greg’s in Statesville is usually where I stop when I get hungry and need something right off 40.Several good ones on the way along I40. Stamey's in Greensboro being one.
Where is Greg's in Statesville? Do they cook with wood? If you've never tried Keaton's outside of Statesville you need to try it. Best bbq chicken I've ever had.I usually get hungry way before Greensboro haha. Greg’s in Statesville is usually where I stop when I get hungry and need something right off 40.
It’s just a little country diner in a strip mall off one of the exits. Not really near the same level as some of the other places, bbq wise, but sides are petty good IMO. Also like stopping at Honey Monks whenever I’m going that way on 64.Where is Greg's in Statesville? Do they cook with wood? If you've never tried Keaton's outside of Statesville you need to try it. Yeah, Lexington bbq and is the best in Lexington IMO, and that’s saying a lot. There are some great places there. I prefer eastern style but Lexington style is great. Most eastern places have lot better sides. It’s just a little country diner in a strip mall off one of the exits. They are two Bridges bbq In Shelby, Red Bridges bbq and Alston Bridges bbq. They are not related and both server some of the best bbq in the state.Back in 1989 I lived in Shelby NC for a few months and there was a bbq place I believe Bridges and a pit in the back probably some of the best BBQ I've ever had.

Agree with JD’s brisket, never had the SC burnt ends but not a big fan of their bbq.I love the brisket and sides at JD's Smokehouse off exit 113 I 40. Also Southern Craft in Johnson city has an awesome appetizer Burnt end nachos.
BBQ Center on Main in Lexington is my favorite. And one heck of a banana split.Yeah, Lexington bbq and is the best in Lexington IMO, and that’s saying a lot. There are some great places there. I prefer eastern style but Lexington style is great. Most eastern places have lot better sides.
Sooo…BBQ Center on Main in Lexington is my favorite. And one heck of a banana split.
Ok I knew they bought it. Was hoping they wouldn’t change the name and ruin it.They’ve put peddling pig there. It’s not as good
They’ve put peddling pig there. It’s not as good
They’re keeping the name maybe??? But they’ve changed the barbecue to what peddling pig serves according to staff. I was in blowing rock on Tuesday was going to eat there one of locals said isn’t worth your time anymore. He ate there says they’ve changed recipesWhen the hell did they do that? It was Woodlands when I called to see whem they were closing the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Lady said Woodlands, please hold, then hung up on me a few seconds later.
Yeah I already heard it wasn’t as good. The people that originally owned it rented a house from my grandparents when they were going to App St.They’re keeping the name maybe??? If you like Kansas City style bbq, Ridgewood is the best around.Ridgewood 900 elizabethton hwy bluff city Tn in between Johnson city and Elizabethton on 19e hwy. bunch old lady’s that look like your grandma cook in there. If you don’t get there early you may stand in line for an hour. It’s worth every minute. They smoke it right there I’m salivating as I type
That's what I like to hear. People saying Ridgewood is great, but not why. KC bbq is good stuff. As far as around here, people say the Haywood Smokehouse has the best brisket they've ever eaten. The one in Dillsboro isn't as good in my opinion. I'll say the brisket is good for the area, but not the best I've ever eaten. I've always wanted to try that Bridges BBB in Shelby, but always forget about it when I'm driving down that way. I do like Buxton Hall in Asheville a lot since it's a whole hog joint. Also a mention of Herb's BBQ down past Murphy on the way to TN. I'm guessing it also has the distinction of being the furthest western BBQ place in NC. The only place downstate that I even remember eating at and not being disgusted was at Speedys in Lexington. If you like Kansas City style bbq, Ridgewood is the best around.
Herb's is a classic. Kind of hard to find a place that uses an open pit in the mountains. That's what I like to hear. People saying Ridgewood is great, but not why. KC bbq is good stuff. I think so. Cook’s, BBQ Center and Speedy’s for-me. I think Honey Monk’s (Lexington BBQ) and Southern Lunch are vastly overrated. And cliquish to boot.Don’t think I have, is it good?
