Andy Roddick update (for tennis fans).

Someone on this board (I think it was probably lawdawg) posted several weeks ago that he had partied with Roddick and that he was a total *******. I have it on good authority from someone who has known him and his older brother John since before anybody had ever heard of Andy Roddick that backs up everything you said about him. Andy's not the only ******* in his family, they're pretty much all ********. He's never been, and never will be, the player he could have been because of some attitude issues that both he and John, his former (and maybe current again) coach/handler have. I was also told that when John quit being Andy's handler last year, that it was because his coach at the time, Jimmy Conners, told Andy that either John had to go or he was going. So Andy fired John. But Andy's attitude didn't improve, so a couple of months later Conners fired Andy.

All that said, I still hope he kicks Roger Federer's *** in the Davis Cup tie in Birmingham in 6 weeks.

I'll also add that my complete surprise #1 women's player at the end of the year will be Elena Dementieva. And, since few will care about that, here's a couple of pics.

I'll give Andy this - he's the best interview in tennis b/c his dry wit and sarcasm are pretty funny there a lot of the time. Seems like the kind of guy that if you were in good with, you'd probably think he was kinda funny and alright to hang around with but could understand everyone else thinking he was an ***. Otherwise he's just a turd to deal with.

He's for sure not one of the most fan-friendly guys on tour from my observations of him at a couple of tourneys.

ESPN 2 was carrying first round matches. A quick US recap: All American men, with the exception of Roddick got smoked yesterday (or Monday in Melbourne). Looked as if the US men player just hopped off the plane after a 16 hr flight and when directly to the court to play. BB

i partied with both andy and john a couple of times. andy is one of those guys who has a MASSIVE ego. if you're in his group, then he's cool. but he tries to keep that appearance of being too cool for anyone else. he's really a big baby who whines until he gets his way. in all honesty, i wouldn't expect anything else from someone who has had their butt kissed since they were 10.

that's an interesting story about john - and i'd be willing to bet it is correct. john's wife was doing andy's PR - i wonder if she still is. last i heard (which has been a year or two), john was going to run andy's tennis academy in san antonio. i'm not sure if it really got off the ground, though. john turned into a COMPLETE *** after a few drinks. worst i've ever seen. i did dance with his wife a few times one night, though. she was a hottie.

partying with andy story: after the masters cup, andy and the bryan brothers and a group went to a club in houston. when the club got ready to close at 2, andy paid them some cash to keep it open until 4 only for the group. everyone else was kicked out at 2. andy was chased all night by some hot blonde bimbo, and they disappeared at around 3. at about 3:30, they were back, and i swear the girl had big red marks on her knees. very obvious.

considering he's about to be married...assuming that this red-kneed incident took place. But the Masters event in Houston was a few years back, so I guess he's in the clear.

Can't attest to Andy, but can about John. John is the only person that I've ever had to kick off of my softball team. We had a pretty competitive team for about 5 years at UGA and John was back in Athens for a semester. Through a friend of a friend, Wade Maguire (for the hard core tennis fans) ended up on our team. He asked if we needed anyone else and said his friend John wanted to come out. Both could mash by the way. Anyway...I'm in LC with John in Left. Someone launches a shot in deep left...John gets back for it...makes the catch but didn't get the ball in quick enough and the runners advanced. Shortstop started yelling to get the ball in...so John flips off our shortstop. Caused a scene. John never came back out...moved out to Texas and started the tennis school. I had always heard it was his venture though...not Andy's. He always kept to himself...never said much. Heard some pretty funny stories about Jim Courier though.
