My gut agrees with you. Hope were both wrong.
For someone who wasn't even invited to the combines, I just can't figure out what the rationale is for leaving, but maybe he thinks he can develop as more of a shooter by playing in the D league where all he does is shoots 1,000 shots per day to hone his skills.
The deadline is tomorrow (5/25). Much like when he was deciding on his transfer destination, I imagine he will take as much time as he has available to weigh his options.
Andrew has previously said...it's either NBA or Nebraska. That may have changed...I don't know, but he's not getting drafted. With that said...he may still think he has a shot to showcase his skills in the summer and make a team. Can't imagine that happens very often. Hopefully it's good news, he is essential to next years team having success.
I think he knows the NBA is s long shot.... But he may also believe that returning for one year will do absolutely nothing to improve his odds
He would be THE man next year with Shields gone. I think it would be very wise for him to come back. But we will know in a few hours.

LINCOLN — The deadline for underclassmen to withdraw from the NBA draft is Wednesday, and Nebraska’s Andrew White plans to use every minute.
“Still talking it through,” he texted Monday night. “I will decide as late as possible, more than likely.”
White, the Huskers’ senior-to-be wing, submitted his name for the NBA draft on April 21 and said then he would take as much time as necessary to decide whether to turn pro or return to Lincoln.
Nebraska coach Tim Miles, reached earlier Monday, answered a reporter’s question before it was asked, saying: “I don’t know what Andrew White is doing yet.”
Miles, speaking by phone from a long-scheduled out-of-state charity event, said he would talk with White later Monday and meet the 6-foot-7, 220-pounder face to face on Tuesday before a final decision is made.
“We’re talking to Andrew and talking to his family and providing all the information we can,” Miles said. “It has been constant communication.”
Last week, White took part in tryouts with the Detroit Pistons on Thursday, the Chicago Bulls on Friday and the Boston Celtics on Saturday. The week before, he worked out for the Utah Jazz.
Last week, White told The World-Herald his decision was down to either the NBA or Nebraska.

It just seems like his heart is not in Nebraska anymore. I'd be surprised if he returns.
He could have a pretty good career in Europe. Jason Dourisseau is still making a nice living over there after 10 years, and White is a more talented player than JD was in college.

NBA or Nebraska, but I'm afraid with the degree in his hand, a ~100k deal overseas could be harder than he thought to turn down.

Is he gonna sneak out in the middle of the night like the Colts did? I predict if he does, he will end up on the Pacers D-league team.

I think he's waiting to see how many prospects rated ahead of him decide to come back. If enough guys chose to opt out, Andrew may opt in because the 2017 draft is going to be a deeper draft anyway. He may decide to just go for it now. Make no mistake, he's going to be on the outside looking in whether he's picked late 2nd or trying out as a free agent. The odds will be long this year or next. It's unlikely that he could return to NU and work his way into the first round.
Tell that to guys like Sam Dekker and even Doug McDermott. One strong season, hell, even a strong tournament showing can definitely catapult you into a first round pick. If he can shoot north of 40% from the 3 point line in his senior season, I'll guarantee someone takes him.
Andrew shot 41% from 3 last season and it hasn't guaranteed him a thing this year so why would it next year?
Its debatable that Doug improved his draft position by coming back for his senior season. We'll never know the answer to that. Sam didn't return for his senior season.

90% of the prospects out there will improve more by staying in college so in that regard the NBA is its own worst enemy.

we need to start making the tourney on a perennial basis .. March madness is a sentinel sporting event in this country. Any recruit worth his salt wants some type of reasonable reassurance that he is going to have the opportunity to participate. You are dead in the water in recruiting without at least getting to the tournament on a regular basis.
