Bohl is a very good head coach. You can see NU hired him in the first place. It's too bad his personal issues forced him out. He would have been VASTLY better than Bo for the long term.wyo 37 miz zou 31. 3 takeaways inside the 10.
What long term is that, exactly? Even if Bohl had survived the debacle in Boulder followed by a 7-7 season in 2002, he would have been fired right along with everyone else after the 2003 season.Bohl is a very good head coach. While I'm sure there is same unnamed insider who has whispered otherwise, there's no scenario in which Bohl stays at NU past 2003.
Well sure, if all of the old guard on Solich's staff had been more successful, maybe Bo Pelini never sets foot in Lincoln. But the notion that Pelini's arrival is what led to Solich and his staff being shown the door will be a nonsensical narrative not matter how many hundreds of times it is repeated.Well, maybe if his head would have been in the right place as a DC back then...

You're right, but Bo got labeled the savior for his defense that one year when IMO Bohl might have done better. Bohl has done nothing but win since he got his life straightened out. One can't change history unless you write text books, but Bo and Carl were one of the reasons Frank got fired. Carl banging his player's wife. Bo chasing down Tom's buddy Snyder. SP couldn't stand Pelini. SP named Bo interim coach because SP was afraid if he named Barney that people would want him retained. Maybe Bohl as DC wins us one more game and there's no way SP can fire Frank. All conjecture. What long term is that, exactly? Yes if only Frank would have had the good sense to defy the AD who was screaming at him to make staff changes, one of those lopsided losses in 2003 might have turned into a win and the AD would have seen fit to let Frank, Bohl and the rest of the crew keep their jobs.*You're right, but Bo got labeled the savior for his defense that one year when IMO Bohl might have done better. Frank probably had no choice to fire Bohl for his personal issues. Ironically a couple of the guys he brought in had similar issues with alcohol and women. Bohl's worst game as our DC came the week he had to explain to his wife that he was going to be a daddy again..... Make no mistake, Bo couldn't hold Bohl's (when sober) clipboard as a coach. It isn't even close.Yes if only Frank would have had the good sense to defy the AD who was screaming at him to make staff changes, one of those lopsided losses in 2003 might have turned into a win and the AD would have seen fit to let Frank, Bohl and the rest of the crew keep their jobs.*

Bohl did a great job at NDS, no question. But so far he”s been pretty average at Wyoming it seems. You're right, but Bo got labeled the savior for his defense that one year when IMO Bohl might have done better. Takes time to rebuild a team and they just beat Mizzou. Wyoming hasn't done something like that in a while. Bohl's a damned good coach.Bohl did a great job at NDS, no question. But so far he”s been pretty average at Wyoming it seems.
It's hard to ignore those personal indiscretions - especially when you combine them with getting completely humiliated by Colorado and Miami and following up those losses with 7 more in 2002. But yeah, Bohl getting jettisoned out of Lincoln was all about the off-the-field stuff.Frank probably had no choice to fire Bohl for his personal issues. The on field performance was directly related to what was going on his personal life. No doubt the on field record was the official reason for his firing. The Miami loss was mostly about their superior talent. Our offense didn't do anything either until they started substituting on defense. I was there. Good heavens go back and look at their roster and compare it to ours. They had lots of guys on that team play a long time in the NFL Us? Not so much. That CU game was all about Bohl's life getting turned upside down that week. He was totally unprepared for CU. The 7-7 year by his own admission, he had his head in a bottle. Had he not been fired from NU, I don't know if he gets his life in order or not in time for that next year or not. It's hard to ignore those personal indiscretions - especially when you combine them with getting completely humiliated by Colorado and Miami and following up those losses with 7 more in 2002. I’m not blaming Bohl for the Miami loss, nor am I trying pin any of the losses in 2002 on him. But those losses were all nails in Frank’s coffin, which Pederson had on lay away well before the Pelini brothers showed up.The on field performance was directly related to what was going on his personal life. The improvement in the record helped Frank and Pelini was a part of it. That said, we still got blown out at times and the personal behavior was a bullet point for SP. If Pelini had given SP some confidence that the personal issues with Frank's staff AND the recruiting issues were fixed, I think Frank would have kept his job.I’m not blaming Bohl for the Miami loss, nor am I trying pin any of the losses in 2002 on him.
