Both of these dudes are pretty deplorable in their own ways, I think. But there's no doubt who the GOAT is.

I don't even care about the NBA but it's always fun to meme and shitpost when LeBron loses. Thanks for nothing Grizzlies.

Meh if we are using awards as the only metric Bill Russell is the best: 11 NBA championships in 13 years. Same number of MVPs both had HOF coaches. People who think MJ is better only listen to Phil Knight and shoe deals.

How many on this board have seen Bill Russell play? I know I haven’t… but I’ve seen the greatness of Jordan. It makes it easier to crown him the greatest.

I am 67. Never saw Russell play live but I watched him on TV. He was a great leader, rebounder and defender, but not much of a scorer. He mostly scored on layups. Was not a real big dunker. Wilt was the power dunker of that era. To me it is always going to be Jordan. Jordan was far tougher than James. It is not even close.

Could be remembering wrong but I believe I heard Jordan only had one game below 10 points in his entire time with the bulls. Staggering.

When Bird was nearing the end of his career, he was part of a All Pro team that was going to play against the best college players (can't remember the year). Jordan was on the college team. Both teams were practicing at opposite ends of the gym when a ball from the college team rolled over to the pro side.

Bird knew about Jordan and knew how good he was going to be. Bird picked up the ball and shot it over Jordan's head back to the college side.

Message: I know who you are and what you're going to become, and I don't give a ****.

Not trying to promote Bird, rather supporting Jordan. LeWhine is a generational talent, but in the spectrum of generational talents, he falls under Jordan.

“People who think MJ is better…”. Than what? If the comparison is still LeBronMao then he is better. I don’t need an advertisement from Nike to tell me that.

Bird's first year in the NBA was 1979, his last was 1992. Jordan's first year was 1984 and he retired the first time in 1993.

Now I don't know anything about an All Pro team vs an All American game, but I don't think Bird was at the end of his career when that game would have taken place.

Edit - perhaps you are thinking of the 1984 Olympic team. That team played several exhibition games against NBA players. Ironically enough the Olympic team won all 8 of the games. Bird and Magic were both in those games, as was Isaiah Thomas and Robert Parrish.

It's in a YouTube video. I'll see if I can find it.

I edited my post. It was probably the Olympic exhibition games vs NBA players. Bird would have been in the league for 5 years at that time.
Not trying to back-check ya, but for the curious I found a video that references that game but not the specific incident I mentioned......go to 7:16.

He's not even 2nd. At best I think he's 6th

History had not been kind to Wilt the Stilt, IMO. The guy was a force.

There's no shame in being the second greatest basketball player of all time, which LeBron has already cemented his place as. If he wins this year, I think there's a real argument for both of them and it's pretty much neck and neck. If LeBron were to win another one after that, I'd have to say LeBron edges Jordan out at that point, with the same number of titles, but with Lebron's longevity, he would have the edge in most statistical categories.

My dad is 76 and will still tell me he was the best player + athlete of all time with the HUGE caveat that offensive goaltending was legal/had to make it illegal because of him, before his time.

I would try to find room for Magic and Jerry West on that list, maybe replacing Shaq and Duncan. And my order would be a bit different, but that's a pretty good list. Really tough to stop with 10.

Well then watch him play he is dah best more championships better for longer. I can see an argument for Kareem though. Skyhook was unstoppable.

There were TVs back when Russell was playing? Huh, I’ll be damned.

could have been when mj played on bobby's olympic team. i was at the hoosier dome when they played a group of nba all-stars, including bird.

gene keady was bob's assistant. they all boo'd when keady was introduced. bob puts his arm around keady like his brother, and the jeers turn to a huge ovation. tears in keady's eyes. unbelievable memory of sports.

knight wore jordan's *** out during that olympic title run once bringing him to tears. mj loved him. the last all-collegiate team to win the olympics.
