Ammo for negative recruiting...

How do you know? You talk to him?

I mean what an incredible response you had earlier as to why SKJ should NOT start over NR. "It might hurt NR's confidence". Wow, well what about SKJ?

The entire first part of this thread is posters discussing how good SKJ is, rim protector, rebounder, how he's improved so much. Yet no one can give me a legitimate reason as to why he doesn't start? Except because it might hurt one of the
You're completely missing the point, yet perfectly illustrating my point.

SKJ is much improved. I'd say he's our best big. But when push comes to shove, who will get the nod for minutes between he and NR? Who will get to start?

So here is SKJ, payed his dues, worked hard to improve, is "currently" the better overall player, yet NR will play over him. Why?
What if SKJ has more impact and plays better coming off the bench as a high energy guy? Booker didn't start and he's doing okay, right? Lyles didn't start until Poythress got hurt and he's doing okay, right? Josh Harrelson didn't start until his senior year and he did okay, right? Deandre Liggins didn't start until his junior year and he did okay, right? Darius Miller didn't start until late in his career and he did okay, right? There's a lot of players that are just better 6 and 7th men than starters, even though they may have more talent. They provide good energy and a nice spark when teams need it. For some reason when they start they lose that. That is very likely the case for SKJ. He's seems to have developed pretty well so far, why fix it if it ain't broke?

If no real difference, why not just start SKJ?

Hasn't he "earned" it? After all he's a sophomore. He's payed his dues. He's been through more practices, more weights, more offseason workouts, watched more film, etc etc. Why not start him?

What, are you dense?

Multiple people have answered it. Most believe Cal thinks Richards will improve a ton by the end of the season.

That's why you let Skal figure it out.
That's why you let Gabriel figure it out.

But SKJ is getting close to equal minutes, and it's 3 games into the season.

I kinda feel you’re grasping @ straws OP. SKJ could possibly even start the next game. I’d actually like to see SKJ and Gabriel to start with Knox SGA and Green but he’s not gonna sit Diallo or Washington. However I’ve watched Cal’s teams enough to know that there’s gonna be a bunch of different combos in the starting lineups based on effort in practice and the matchups. Either way I know it’s not fodder for negative recruitment. I think the only hard sell Duke really has is their academic reputation.

Never even noticed. Not one time. I'm slow I guess.

Back on the thread topic, I'm not understanding what exactly what the point is. Maybe he can clear it up. Lack of minutes? Just a starting spot?

If it's used as negative recruiting, it would only be used as a tool for underachievement. Well, K is racking up top 5's while having an abysmal record with them. Even held a few back in his time. K had no clear positive record with OAD's yet started pulling them out of nowhere. Some people think Capel, I think Nike.

So what exactly is the issue with negative recruiting and SKJ? Must be missing it.

I think SKJ has earned a starting spot. It's evident so far he is deserving. See the start of this thread where several posters were praising SKJ, some even calling him our best big man. Yet he doesn't start because according to some, it might hurt a freshmens "confidence" aka "feelings"

So if you are an opposing coach you can read that as "if you're not one and done, you'll be passed over as a sophomore so as to not hurt an incoming freshmen's feelings". In other words, you had better produce enough to go pro after one year or you will be cast aside. See Matthews, Lee, Wiltjer, etc. Maybe other programs will let you develop at your own pace and won't penalize you if it takes until your sophomore year.

Here we have SKJ, who everyone agrees is a great player, not starting. Why? He's earned it.

I think it sends a negative message when you have a sophomore outperforming a freshmen, yet the freshmen continues to get the starting nod. Typically most everyone would agree with that. But since its Cal/UK, and everyone is so sensitive as to any criticism of the philosophy, then all we have is bashing and "he's a troll".

Was it a negative message when James Harden came off the bench in OKC? Ton of examples of 6th man being better than he starters out there. Go troll somewhere else.

I only know about WildMoon because he said it himself. I wouldn't have noticed otherwise.

OP is the troll of all trolls, which I'm sure you already knew. He spent a month hoping Diallo would leave, then he hoped Bam would slip in the draft, etc. He's always searching for angles to bang on Cal.

And that's just in the OP latest incarnation.

I’ll admit I didn’t understand what the op meant for awhile but I get it now and I think he’s right. Cal has a history of having “his guys” who he favors. They tend to be the highest ranked players and are usually freshmen. They’ll get every benefit of the doubt over older players even if the older player is playing better.

Btw, a few posts up mentions how Lyles came off the bench and is doing fine now. Looking like he should have stayed another year in school. It may have seemed like the right thing to leave at the time but he’s moving closer to that area where players start fighting just to stay in the league. Surprises me too, as talented as he was I thought he’d been a 12/6 guy easy for many years. Instead he saw his minute taken away and buried on the bench in Utah only to be traded and then seemingly get buried on the bench with the Nuggets too.

Your posts continue to get worse and worse. That takes talent.

If anything SKJ is a great example of Cal's system. He wasn't ready to play. He was the youngest player we had last year I think, and wasn't good enough to get more minutes. Now he is and he's showing improvement. He has said he never considered himself to be a OAD. But please continue trying to invent ways Cal sucks. You're pathetic.

Who gives a rat's *** who starts? He played way more minutes than Richards. Do you think he's really butthurt about not starting? Maybe his attitude is a little more balanced than yours. Yeah, I'm sure it is.

Both are 5 stars, both have a ton of upside, why not start the sophomore? Hasn't he earned it?

If they are both 5 stars how is he playing favorites ? Would it not be more beneficial for Cal to get SKJ drafted so that the negative recruiters can't say "he failed with SKJ ?" So for him to play Richards knowing this, maybe, just maybe he sees more upside. But both are playing significant minutes so i do not even understand your argument. it is not who starts, it is who finishes. And those kind of things. I think you have a hard on for Cal and are blind to what is really happening. I mean he played sophomore Harrison Twins over Booker and Ulis. Oh my god, Cal is favoring sophomore talent over freshmen talent. make up your mind.

Why not start SKJ over someone else less "fragile"?

What if SKJ also needs the glory of starting? Does he not also have lots of potential? What if SKJ is having his confidence hurt by not starting? Why not try to accommodate SKJ too? Why is Richards more important?

What if you ask a bunch of whiny hypotheticals that show you're just trying to troll instead of deferring to the person who knows these kids and sees them every day in practice?

What if you're the worst poster on Rafters?

What if no one takes you seriously because you're awful and don't offer anything of value?

What if there's a reason every thread you're in turns into pure trash?

What if you stop infecting this board with your miserable life and just go sulk in sadness by yourself?

Remember last year when SKJ was a five star freshman and Cal played Humphries and Willis over him at the four and five?

Remember when Cut Nuts started a thread where the OP just said "SKJ" and then told people hey we're missing his point as if he had even made an attempt to make one?

Going to entertain players coming to Kentucky and leaving without contributing. Simply won't go there. Especially when he's given a lifetime scholarship while contributing zero to the university. Can't believe so many were cool with it, and they several were already gearing up for excusing it.

Man it's a beautiful day. How's Kentucky right now? It's like 65 degrees in west, tn and a nice breeze.

I'm drinking some Makers enjoying the hell out of it. You can find me easily. I'm in the group of Tennessee boys drinkin jack while I'm the only one drinkin Kentucky.

Fittin' to rain in Kentucky but fairly warm. High 50s?

And we probably all appear trollish at times, but sometimes a spade is just a spade.

No, criticism is fine and warranted. But your idiotic trolling is just kind of annoying. You’re a hypocrite, get caught in lies often, constantly back track and just look for things to ***** about.

People are finally seeing this however so that’s good. Well all know you are Cut Nets. It’s weird.

I guess I just don't understand. I thought the op meant that we could use SKJ to illustrated how Cal's players stay the extra year and get better, where as Duke's players like Bolden seems to get worse each season, therefore he should have came to Kentucky! I thought the op meant Cal could that fact to negative recruit against Duke!

SKJ was a 5 start recruit and didn’t play his freshman year because less heralded upper class men got his minutes. Doesn’t that go against your narrative?

Life must be just pure misery for you. Spend your time pretending to be something and nobody believes it.

This is a message board buddy. Nothing more than a place for fans to discuss and debate. Life is great. Trying to get this thing to 3-4 pages. Thank you for your contribution. I think SKJ should start.

Becuase starting is irrelevant. He is playing more minutes per game than Nick Richards...

Starting is not irrelevant. It means very much to the players. It's a reward. It says you are putting your 5 best out there to open the game. Players work hard to earn a spot on that starting 5. My opinion is that SKJ has earned it, but he won't get it due to promises made by Cal to NR, and his NBA aspirations.

its the same poster just "reincarnated" with a different name

Do you tell people in Arizona that you're a wildcat fan? Do you have to add "Kentucky" so they know or do you just leave it alone and get along?
