Alumni: Do you have a prediction on this?? I'm pretty sure Whitehouse, New Jersey is making their first appearance in the AlWS??? Brooklawn, NJ often qualifies in that region. Fairfield, California has been strong but I don't believe they have been to the series for quite awhile. Tupelo is a traditionally good but hasn't been to Shelby since 2021. East had to beat a really good Rapid City Post 22 team twice on Sunday to make it. Thanks a bunch for posting all the scores, brackets etc... As always, great work by you.

I don't simply because I don't know anything about any of these teams.

With that said, Lincoln East has done very, very well in their recent trips here, so I would expect a strong performance again from the local squad.

Thanks. I agree. The Nebraska teams that have gone to the ALWS have historically done pretty well and that's even more impressive because the Nebraska team are usually comprised of players mostly or all from one high school. Many of the qualifiers from other states are made up of players from several high schools.

I can tell you the team that kept Carpetland (Lincoln East) from the Final 4 last year had 11 All-State players on it from 7-8 different High Schools in the Portland & Surrounding areas of Oregon. Lincoln East was the only team comprised of teams from one High School. They will be this year again......without a doubt. Shelby is an amazing experience for the players and families. Once in a lifetime.

I went in 2019 to watch one of my nephews play for the Idaho Falls Bandits. That team had players from five different high schools. They won it that year and each year the American Legion takes the winning team to a MLB world series game. That year IF went to game 4 in D.C. to watch the Astros/Nationals. They helped with a youth baseball camp earlier in the. day. You are spot on about the great work the people of Shelby, the American Legion etc do with that event. I remember one of the past years when East was there, the ESPN announcers almost seemed amazed that their players all went to the same high school.

Yeah, I have a son there currently on the Carpetland roster. It's his second year going in a row. Absolute amazing experience for him and our entire family. Lincoln East has a chance to make a run this year......have to play well and be efficient on the mound. But, they are playing their best baseball. It should be fun.

Yes. Good luck. It would be great to see East win it! Nebraska has one Legion WS title and that came back in 1939. Nebraska has had numerous runner-ups, including East a few years ago. That team probably would have won but lost a very close game in the finals while missing several top players. I believe that was because of the Area Code games.

You are correct. They were missing Jeter, Peltz and Senstock. Tough ruling.

The next year, they changed the rule so that if you played in an Area Code prospect game, you could still play Legion. The Area Code games are huge for recruiting. Much bigger than American Legion, which is really not big in many places around the country any more.

Lincoln East defeats Midland (Michigan) to advance to the championship game of the American Legion World Series.

In the 99 years of the American Legion World Series, a team from Nebraska has only won this tournament once, that being Creighton Prep back in 1939.

Three Nebraska teams have finished as national runner-up: Omaha Ryan (1965), Creighton Prep (2017) and Lincoln East (2023).

As always, great stuff Alum-ni. I remember reading an article in the World Herald a number of years ago when I believe a player or two from the Omaha McDevitts (Prep) team were still living. Curiosity got the best of me, so I found what I could on the championship team. Articles from 1939 said that there were 30 thousand teams across the nation playing Legion ball that season. Omaha McDevitts got a close win over Neligh in the state tourney. They went to Stockton, California for the region and played a best of five series vs. Berwyn, Illinois at Fontanelle Park in Omaha in late August and early September of 1939 for the title. The Skip Palrang coached Prep team won 3 games to 1, with the game 4 attendance estimated at 13,000. Players on both teams received wrist watches and the Prep players and coaches got to go to games 1 and 2 of the MLB world series.

That's a cool story. Yeah, Legion baseball was probably way more prevalent back then.

The American Legion does take the championship team to a MLB World Series game still to this day.

That's so awesome that they do that for those kids. What a great experience!

It cannot be understated how big of an accomplishment this win is. Lincoln East was just that: a team made of kids from Lincoln East High School.

The teams they played throughout the regional and the World Series (with the exception of Excelsior, which is made up of Minnetonka High School kids), were essentially "all-star teams" of multiple high schools.

It makes Nebraska winning a World Series all the more special when you consider that factor alone.

Congrats Rugs!
