Amazon employees at a Bessemer, Alabama warehouse have voted against unionizing the facility’s roughly 5,800-person workforce.
The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) announced that 1,798 workers at the BHM1 fulfillment center had voted against joining a union, while 738 workers voted in favor.
Amazon tried to delay the election and have it be conducted in person, rather than by mail.
the NLRB denied Amazon’s appeal, reaffirming its position that mail voting is safer, and that letting Amazon rent out hotels and monitor voting lines would create an impression of bias and surveillance. Ballots were sent out February 8th and needed to be returned by March 29th.
