Colonels finish the week 4-0 with wins @Nelson on Tuesday(58-30), home vs. Brookville on Wed.(50-24), home vs. Chatham on Friday(58-37), and they wrapped it up last night at home with a 57-38 win over Appomattox. Colonels have a home/home with Rustburg this Wednesday/Thursday and if I'm not mistaken an away contest w/ William Campbell Friday night to finish off the regular season.

Boys will start Tuesday but Altavista won't play until Thursday (winner of WCHS and Central Lunenburg). Cumberland is 2 seed and will play winner of Highland/PM. Winner play Saturday at WCHS.

Time of year for HR to proclaim disdain that Conf championships are played on a teams home floor

A big thank you

thanks for reminding me. I was just thinking this morning about the "good ole days" when tournaments, were really tournaments. All games played at one single venue. Now with this higher seed bull crap, they do not have the same feel.
I recall going to tournaments and seeing 2 or more games the same night at same venue. That was much better than the way they do them now . Some conferences still pick a one site venue. I wish VHSL would require tournaments to be placed at a real venue, not higher seed crap.

Take the local Conference 37 Tournament. If my observations are correct Dan River will host championship game if they do not get knocked off. Dan River gym is not suitable for any tournament game. no offense to the good people at DR, but they do not have a gym suitable for a tournament. Conference 37 tournament should be at Averett University or somewhere in Lynchburg area.

And no team should have home court advantage come tournament time. No one.

Re: A big thank you

I remember Altavista playing a few Tourney games in the gym over at LC back in the day, it was always packed, loud as hell, incredible atmosphere. I would almost be willing to say that thanks to football, the Altavista fan base in general has increased over the past 15 years despite an Altavista community that has far less residents because of job loss. Really don't think it would be an issue to sell out any place they want to play a game with in 45 minutes of Altavista

Heck, I can recall going to the Vines Center at Liberty University to watch Altavista play in Seminole District tourney. Now tournaments are held in venues that are not suitable for a big regular season game.

Put 2 games in a venue same night and you have a good tournament atmosphere.

Re: A big thank you

The Shenandoah District Tournament was held at EMU. Always enjoyed going over there and watching several games each night. That was fun.

Dan River Gym

DR could be site of conference 37 championship game. last night DR played Gretna, the last place team in conference. Gym was about 95% full. During play, 2 girls walked onto floor headed for their seats. I believe they cut between the player with ball and the defender. ref blew whistle then resumed play.

Conference 37 should pick a good site and have entire tournament there.
