Allen has yet to demonstrate he’s a Power 5 player. He can’t get a shot off the dribble. He doesnt rebound. He doesn’t play anywhere close to competent defense. He has no pulse while he’s in the game. All he does is stand around the perimeter waiting for a teammate to pass him the ball so he can shoot it when he’s not covered up by a defender. Because he can’t dribble to get his shot off, other teams have scouted him and lock him down. I hope he stays and improves but right now he looks like a better fit for the OVC
That’s a pretty good assessment of a guy who doesn’t get enough playing time to see what he really can do or develop.
But I’ve seen enough of Askew to tell you he’s not ready. Yet one guy gets starters minutes and the other plays 3 mins. All of this in a lost season.
All Allen plays is right before a media timeout. Dead ball and he’s out. Hard to get going like that.

damn right cal broke his spirit. It’s easy to tell that Allen doesn’t like playing for cal. Think back to miss. St and how loose and fluid he looked after cal got kicked out. He hasn’t looked like that since. Even when cal played him for a 5-6 game stretch he still played like he knew cal didn’t have confidence in him. That has an effect in a player and it has effected Allen this year. I’m only surprised he hasn’t quit Already but maybe that’s not his DNA. I’m sure he will thinI about his future after this season and decide to move on. He knows he’s not a cal guy and never will be.
He played well against Miss. St. because they are as bad as us. He looks scared on the floor. I'm not arguing about who's fault it is. I'm just saying that at this point, he is not helping us win.

And then Cal mocks him with the fanbase during the post game interview. I'm sure the kids confidence is just overflowing.
Just listened to the post game interview and Cal pumped him up. Said that the SEC tournament was his chance to shine. Did you listen to the same radio show I did?

He will be. And morons on here will say he quit. Allen, Fletcher, and Ware should have all played tonight.
Allen did play, did very little while in , but on a night we get outrebounded 42-28, ANY big man option on the bench should have been explored.

Does anyone really think that John Calipari is not trying to win. He has made more money in his life coaching basketball than most of us have put together. While he may pick favorites, does anyone think that he does that not thinking that by making those players favorites it will help him win?

Allen would be a good player in a structured system like Virginia or Texas Tech. Hope he lands somewhere he can build confidence and gets a opportunity.

Serious question. Do you not see how the defense plays Allen when he is in the game? He at least gets their attention. If he is placed on the baseline corner, do you think Ole Miss brings their D up that high?

How does the money part have anything to do with the statement your trying to make?

😂 last 8 games he’s averaged 6.5 minutes/game including one game he got 19 minutes. Last 4 games he’s barely seeing the floor for 2 minutes. What kind of production are you looking for with these numbers?

Your analysis may have some merit,at this point Cal should perhaps start Mintz ( the only guy who can make a shot on this team) Toppin, Ware, Fletcher, and Allen. How can they do any worse than the guys he has been playing, plus Jackson can’t play more than 15 minutes without being in foul trouble, bring him off the bench, let Askew and Boston sit

No, we think he is a moron who cant win without Antiqua and Payne. He might be "trying" to win but hes really bad at it

The Allen questions never end, and the Fletcher situation is almost comical, but can anybody find a reason why Ware hasn’t played at all 2 games in a row now? Played 29 minutes against Missou on Feb 3rd with 8 points and 10 rebs, and has played 15 total minutes since??

The Allen haters on this board combined could possibly form one functioning brain. To watch this team and suggest that trying something different would make things worse is so asinine.

Allen won one game single-handedly...and as a team we've only won eight! But yeah, he needs to be on the bench...because you guys shook Cal's hand once and think you're buddies...and now you'll die on that hill...defending Cal and bashing a good kid.

cal was a nightmare in his Allen remarks. I don’t even know what prompted the “Allen needs to be on the floor” the mindless babble cal was sputtering. This has been the season from hell and cal has talked his way into a massive hole. He needs to get the season over, drop the coach speak and get the guys out who won’t be back. There’s no reason for this to go on til may. Get the guys who will transfer, nba, overseas get them out and fill the holes quickly. Right now we don’t have enough returning and coming in to get back to elite status.

Btw he needs to can two assistants

I think Cal should be charged with emotional abuse for what he has done to this kid's mind and confidence level. But we don't want to hurt Boston's heart. Pleae, please, please I hope Boston is one who leaves and go pro...or somewhere, anywhere.

Do you think if he got Boston’s minutes tonight he could have went better than 1-9 from the field and 1 rebound?
If he had the same chance to miss some shots and get a rhythm for the game. He really never got the chance to grow this year. Some players grow quick others need the season to come along, thats a coaches job to determine what type of player you are. In this system it is feast or famine. If you dont fit the type of player he thinks you should be, he is not going to be patient. Look at the ones that left before, same situation.

Some kids have long leashes and the other ones short leashes. Unfortunately our long leashes will be kids trying to stay out of the G league next year. I would much rather play kids that will be back, since this season is basically over.

Exactly. Like what are you even trying to accomplish at this point? The season is over. Play the guys that have at least an inkling of chance of coming back next year.

HC's only value-added is getting 5-star rated kids to the league. Wins for UK was always just a by-product of having elite talent showcased on college courts, only now CBB wins are a much more rare by-product.

But hey, the kids will still get to the league,
so for Cal--mission accomplished.

We need our coaches to put UK's present fortunes above future NBA fortunes.

Askew and Boston have not played anywhere close to their lofty expectations but replacing them with an even worse performer like Allen is not a viable option, At least Askew and Boston can dribble and seem to have some competitive spirit about them. Allen plays like a zombie.

I‘ve been a UK fan since I saw my first game in 1959. This is the most overrated, underperforming freshmen/transfer class I‘ve witnessed. Boston was projected to be the second player drafted in the 2021 NBA draft with Clarke also a lottery selection. Based on their play this year, these guys better rethink their vocational future because neither of them appear to have NBA talent. Likewise, Sarr is also a major disappointment. How he managed to become third team All-ACC last year is dumbfounding in light of his play this year.

Agree. He comes in and has to take a 3 because it is pretty much forced on him to do so. He misses and out he goes soon thereafter. Boston kills us the whole game except for one three point shot and Askew passes the ball around the perimeter and does nothing else and they play.
That is what gets me, Boston and Askew can make mistake after mistake, but Cal's M.O. has always been certain players get special treatment and others like Allen, Baker etc get the shaft. I have lost all respect for Cal and how he handles his players.
