I see I've touched a nerve. Cling to past like Michigan all you want. I care about the here and now and this team is gelling just the way I thought it would. My guess is a number of you worried about all-time wins were ready to throw Coach Cal and this team under the bus after the Duke game. The history you should pay attending to is the fact that Coach Cal has been and will always be an outstanding coach who cares about his players. And for the person who cried about the introduction of KU and UNC as the all-time winningest programs, who the freak cares how ESPN or CBS introduces a game. IMO, that is about as shallow as it comes.

UNC made up a lot of wins because the ACC had a post season tournament long before most conferences did. I think Oscar Combs brought this up a few years ago. The SEC did have a tournament in the '50's but it was discontinued and not renewed until 1979.

There is nothing pathetic about holding pride in historic achievements regarding Kentucky Basketball. What you're doing is essentially saying who cares about any of the fans, players, and coaches who watched/participated in creating the base of what is the greatest tradition in college basketball. The 40's, 50's, and 60's? Who cares, that was so long ago, it doesn't mean anything.
I wasn't old enough to remember the UK dynasty in the 90's, should I not give a **** about that too?
You sound like any number of fans of opposing teams who sees it's their mission to tear down any and every accomplishment that's been done by UK basketball. There were a lot of dumb asses in the beginning of this thread, and your original point about Cal being the right guy for the job is right, but you mucked that all up by viciously defending the wrong narrative. I swear, some of you are braindead. I have explained many times, I am an Ohioan, OSU football fan, and long time Coach Cal fan from his Roe/Camby days at UMASS. Why do I make fun of your pathetic obsession with all-time wins? Because it is weak and worthless. I see Michigan fans holding on to the past. I see pathetic Buckeye fans who cling to taking the lead from Michigan (like that matters at all). It is no less pathetic in basketball than it is in football. And, to make a bigger statement, it is no less pathetic than certain segments of our society that hold on to their heritage and believes it defines them when it doesn't. Study history but don't let it define you today. Those that do are fools.
In other words, you are a Buckeye fan jealous of Michigan's All Time Football Wins record, and probably Notre Dame as #2, so you have to pretend it doesn't matter in any sport. But when Michigan plays Notre Dame and the announcers describe them as the two winningest programs in college football history it eats at you. It's obvious because you've mentioned Michigan twice already in this thread.
I don't watch the intros (it takes 15-20 minutes for any top notch football game to start) but why would I care. It doesn't eat at me because I don't care about wins 100 years ago. That literally has nothing to do with what happens today. In football, Ohio State has beaten Michigan 14 out of the last 15 times they have played. That is the number I care about. But some fans hold on to the past because it props up their difficult present.

You can try to explain all you want. All I know for sure is that you consistently defend UNC on pretty much all issues, even ones smart UNC fans won't come near.
As far as you claiming to be a Calipari fan, maybe, maybe not. But that doesn't make you a Kentucky fan. Far from it. So please spare us from using the terms 'we' and 'us' in the future when referring to UK or their fans.

Kentucky fans pride with our historical accomplishments, I would argue, is an ENORMOUS part of why our program has persevered through some difficult stretches. We simply won’t let any staff or administration fail and accept it.
Other once proud programs, particularly in non-urban markets, have floundered in similar situations.
Everyone is defined by their past. That goes for basketball programs and football programs as well.
Would Kentucky basketball be what it is without a storied past? Same goes for OSU football? If the past doesn't matter then why do we hang Championship banners in the rafters at Rupp Arena? Why does OSU retire player jerseys or numbers?
I'd say Calipari is very happy that UK has had a storied past too. Otherwise his salary would be considerably smaller.
Not all pasts are positive either. Look at SMU football or North Carolina basketball. Both are forever soiled by decades of rampant cheating and falsifying records. Nothing they do on the field or court will ever change what is commonly known about those programs. It's the past and a stigma they have to live with.
