All of this being said, I'm not sure it really matters about what's better. I mean I think that's a question for what was the more impressive feat but in the end the ultimate goal is a national title. If both teams achieved that, they both completed their purpose in the season.

I wonder if there's really would be tho.

Most likely, while there's would be more games, our strength of schedule would be better.

If I"m a UK fan, I'd make the argument well yes you played more games but the games that we didn't play were cupcake games (more than likely at home) that we were going to win regardless. If I look at the teams UK played this season in the non conference only 1 is north of 100 and even they are in the top 150. The additional games we missed we normally play are teams in the 200s and 300s.

Now we did miss the Texas game this season but we also missed Texas AM and Detriot Mercy, both teams if we were going for an undefeated season we would have beaten anyways.

Now the road stuff I think that's a valid point but FWIW there was still a home advantage this season. It didn't completely evaporate.

But I can see your point. And I'm sure some fans would indeed feel that way.

40-0 >>>>> 32-0.

I just wonder if those 8 games were home games against little sisters of the poor, whether or not it really matters.
Here are the games that were scheduled that were cancelled due to COVID:

Tarleton State
Southern
Northern Arizona
Idaho
Santa Claraa
Loyola Marymount (x2)
Baylor

The Baylor game is obviously the big one. The rest they would have had no issues with.

The amount of zag haters on this board is laughable.

One of the best stories in sports history, yet sheer jealousy gets in the way of most of you appreciating this team.

Just because the chokers of '15 didn't seal the deal, doesn't mean there needs to be so much hate on this years historic Zags team.

None of you, nor I, will ever be able to prove hypothetically which team is better. But you're missing out on greatness if you spend all your time trying to justify your Cat's team of yesteryear.

PS.. you arent getting Max Abmas--- some of your posts make me laugh.. like huh? Do people just make **** up on this board>?

Yes they do. They think every transfer is going to Kentucky, and Kentucky is every coach's dream job. Arrogance and Jealousey is the rule of the roost here on this board.

It is nuts. I saw the other day also that they think this GU team would finish as the 5th best team in the 2015 season? Maybe with these current dudes as most of them would be between 11 and 15 years old.

Or that '15 second platoon would beat this Zags team HAHAHAHAHAHHAHA. Its either ignorance or arrogance.. not sure which one it is yet.

FWIW 21 Zags haven't sealed the deal yet so you might want to hold onto all of this.

Speaking as a fan who felt we couldn't be beaten in 15.

Things happen in a one and done tournament. While I think the gap between them and the other teams are wider than it was in 15 between say us and Wisconsin or Duke, it only takes one poor game to go home.

Doesnt change the fact that most opinions on this board are stupid, arrogant and formed out of jealousy-- especially when it comes to the Zags. One more win, and the Zags team already surpassed that KY team.

I don't think it's that.

It's just coming off a 9-16 season, people are understandably a bit upset here. Maybe there is SOME jealousy in that team many felt were "supposed" to go undefeated and didn't. But I would argue there's an equal number that's just as happy with Gonzaga doing it just so that Indiana isn't the last team to do so anymore. I think it goes both ways.

FWIW regardless whatever happens to Gonzaga, in the end I don't think anyone can definitively say which team was better.

I would certainly pay to see those teams face one another tho. It would no doubt be an extremely good game.

Do people really think Max Abmas is going to Ky? Do people really think that the 2nd platoon of '15 would beat this GU team?

I'll be honest. As a cali kid, i heard negative things about KY Fans my whole life-- nasty things. Met a large number of them at the final fours i have been to, and it completely changed my mind. Some great dudes.

Then I come here, read some of these comments and I am back to square zero. There are some really laughable takes here. And the arrogance, especially after winning 9 games is embarrassing as an outsider.

The thing about KY fans is we are an extremely large fanbase. I think any team that has a large fanbase has a subset of crazies lol. Most UK fans are great tho. There's a lot of great posters on this board and live eat and breathe UK basketball.

I personally think the Max Abmas thing is just a strong want by a portion of the base. But then again for all of the heat that Cal takes here lately, he's still the best recruiter in the game. So people feel we are in on everyone. Calipari certainly doesn't get everyone but he's gotten quite a bit in the 10 years he's been here. Enough to make people feel confident he could grab players if he wanted them. I think maybe outside fans see that as arrogance but I don't really see it that way. When things happen again and again you naturally expect it to continue.

Few is starting to grab high recruits as well. You guys are going to start to feel the same way in a few years I suspect.

As far as the 2nd platoon beating this Gonzaga team, I don't know. That players that didn't start on that team, were really really really good. I think most here (and college basketball in general) felt we could have fielded two Top 25 teams that season. I'm not sure our 2nd platoon would be better over the course of an entire season than this Zags team BUT could they beat them say in a best of 3 or best of 5? I think they could

I enjoy watching this Zags team. I believe the best basketball game this entire season has been a Baylor vs Zags game. We still might get it and I think it will be a great game. As far as UK fans, this is a UK fan site so I guess a little UK slanted homerism is to be expected. I’m not compelled to go to a Gonzaga board if one exists. If it does I’m sure Zag fans are pro Zags. Maybe the difference is there are so many more UK fans that bleed blue. I will say I have several of these UK “fans” on ignore because either they are idiots or trolls posing as Kentucky fans. Take it all with a grain of salt.

I’m rooting for Gonzaga. I’d like to see an undefeated season in my lifetime and we aren’t going to do it and it’s not KU, Duke, is UNC doing it.

Mark Few runs a good program. Dan Monson put them on the map in 1999 and his assistant Few had enough sense to never leave. I’d like to see him win it.

Gonzaga is one of the best sports stories of the year? Lol news to me.

Didn't know goofy white dudes wearing heads bands and making kisses faces was some great story.

Brady winning a title with Tampa, Brees retiring. Nick Sabans dominance,, The Mets selling, the Olympics around the corner... those are stories. A team going undefeated during COVID, playing in the WCC, is going to be met with "well, they play Pepperdine" and "they never played a 2, 3 or even 4 seed".

It won't even be close to the story it would be if this was a 40-0 undefeated season from a power conference school, I can promise you that.

FWIW.. I asked two of my NBA fantasy leagues and the question was almost laughed at.. in no way is Gonzaga's (or ANY team this year) undefeated season as impressive in a normal year. And they're all listing the same reasons.

All 16 of us are on the East Coast, and two are Gonzaga fans lol.

I was wondering about that.

Given the games that UK had to axe from the schedule, I figured Gonzaga would lack mostly games against some of their easier competition.

No, I said that purely for YOU and your attitude. It was intended to get under your skin a bit, and it clearly did. Gonzaga is an up and coming program, if Few stays. If he leaves, they're done. They're a Johnny come lately. That isn't jealousy. It is fact. I do expect Gonzaga to win it, by the way. I've been saying it for weeks now. This season was made for this kind of team. There are no stars on winning teams in college basketball this season- no NBA prodigies. So, what's left? Just good college players. And Gonzaga always has a bunch of good college players and should be the favorite in this pandemic shortened season.
Lol @ up and coming

So every team, golfer, tennis player, etc get asterisks by their titles this year? I don't get that logic at all.
Why exactly? Does that mean it means less or doesn't count against other seasons? I'm at a loss here as to why this season will be viewed that way?
Guarantee if UK was undefeated going into the FF during a COVID year, exactly 0 people here would be bringing it up as an asterisk year

Hey Joe. It's all about comparison. Gonzaga made its first NCAAT appearance in 1995. One year later, Kentucky won its 6th title. 2 years after that, in 1998, UK won it's 7th title. The year after that, in 1999, Gonzaga made its 2nd appearance in the NCAAT. You get that? If Gonzaga wins the title this season, that will be ONE (1) title. Right now you have exactly ZERO.

So yes, by comparison, whether you like it or not, Gonzaga is an up and coming program.

Not sure how a program that broke on to the scene in 1999 is a “Johnny come lately.” They have been consistently competitive for 22 years now without the resources of prestigious schools.

Also, IL, Monson was the one who put Gonzaga on the map; not Few. Mark Few just had enough sense to not leave like his boss Monson did for Minnesota.

Well, perhaps Johnny come lately is a bit overstated. But if you're talking about any measure of great college basketball programs, Gonzaga has no means of comparison. Yes, they've been pretty good for 20 years now. How long has UK been good? How long has UCLA been good? How long has UNC been good? Kansas? Duke? Even Louisville has been good since the mid-80s. That's my point. Gonzaga still doesn't have a title. They only have 2 final fours and both are in the last 4 years, and one just happened. They don't even have a chip in this game yet.

Yeah, that’s not my argument. I’ve never suggested they have the same historical accolades. This is a mid-major program- not exactly the same measuring stick and definitely not discussing “greatest programs ever.” But ancient titles from 30,40, 50 years ago has no barring on anything now.

The point is, they have done very well for being a super small school that does not have the resources that the big boys have. Since 2015, they’ve went Elite 8, Sweet 16, Runner-up, Sweet 16, Elite 8, and now Final Four. That’s remarkable for a program of that size.

Hell, five years ago, Nova only had one title ever. Now has three. UConn was nothing before the 90s and then won four ships in 15 years. Considering the way the game has been changed with one and done and how it’s going- Gonzaga absolutely could win some.

I think Gonzaga may win the title. I have nothing against Gonzaga winning the title and going undefeated. I think in 2015 Duke, Wisconsin, Kentucky and probably Arizona were better than this year's Gonzaga team. I could easily drop Arizona. Being undefeated this year doesn't mean being undefeated every year. You may win the title. I think you probably will. And you will be considered one of the greatest teams of all time. You may want to do that before you talk too much. The pressure will build.

I hope Gonzaga does win the title. Not every year in college basketball is equal. You seem to have a hard time understanding that.

If there were a tournament last season, Gonzaga would have very likely been a 1 seed. That would entail 4 1 seeds in the last 5 seasons. UK has 3 1 seeds during Cal's entire tenure. Their success over the last half of a decade is outstanding. A title would be the cherry on top of a great run for their program.

Well, if that's not what you're saying, then you're arguing with a straw man. I never said their recent success doesn't matter. Of course it does. Of course it's relevant and it matters. I've never argued that in this thread. My entire point of saying "up and coming" was in reference to someone suggesting Gonzaga is an all-time great program. I was simply saying that in reference to Historically Great College Basketball Programs, they are an up and comer or a Johnny come lately. I never said, nor would I, that their relatively recent emergence is irrelevant or that they're not currently one of the top programs.

I'm going to take a shot in the dark here, and wildly guess that it has nothing to do with coach character but everything to do with Gonzaga having a modern day undefeated season(*), something Kentucky was so close to getting.

But what do I know..
Which also reflects the character of those involved.

Yes, the current state of our program takes our right away to be critical of a team like Gonzaga. No one who watched UK this year and Gonzaga would want to be like UK. It was boring, grade school basketball at it's best.

I want to see an undefeated National Champion. With Calipari as coach that will never happen at Kentucky so Gonzaga has my support.
