a few of mine in no order:

a) if Bullock is on the bench because he refuses to get in playing shape, pull the schollie;
b) MD has to get more minutes than Shaq and Candida;
c) Deshawn has been playing ridiculously selfishly;
d) that Souf sees the floor;
e) phenomenal defense down the stretch vs SHU, can’t get stops against SB/HART;
f)
g)

At one point in the game I was pondering if I’d have played only bench players, taken the loss vs Hartford to get an understanding that the lack of defensive intensity was unacceptable. It’s better to lose vs Hartford if it gets you in “game shape” for Wisconsin.

I am sorry. We want and hope Duocore to be better than doorson and Sa. I am not sure right now that he is. Duocore got 1 lousy rebound in 15 minutes last night as a center. he is lost on defense. he is only 6'9''. Right now he doesnt add anything to our team.

Yes he is a freshman, but he has a LONG way to go and he is undersized.

I get what you are saying and agree to some degree, but Doucoure is a freshman who should actually be a Senior in HS.

If you look at some of the better bigs in this league and what they did as frosh Ethan Happ (redshirted), Reggie Lynch (played for Eastern Illinois), Bates-Diop (3.8/2.1 as a frosh at Ohio State) and realize its exceptionally rare for a frosh big to come into CBB and have a real impact.

Happ redshirted because of Dekker, Hayes and Kaminsky.

Reggie Lynch made a big impact as a frosh for Eastern illinois

Bates-Diop had talented players in front of him.he actually shot 46.2% from 3 as a frosh?!?

I hear what you are saying. I'd feel better if he was 7', but he isn't. he is a project without size. i just don't see it.

You are comparing an 18 yr old to 20/21 year olds. Two guys have their man muscle and bodies..one does not. And you are comparing big men. Throw him off the team!

He adds a center..who is developing. And getting good gameday experience. This is not that difficult to understand.

Let's pull the scholarship of a kid who went to a powerhouse nj h.s....great call.
Ash, do you think the hs coach likes seeing his All State player at the end of the bench when walk-ons are getting time? Do you think that hs coach does not recognize a player's responsibility?

I think Shaq and Candido are not going to improve. I think Mamadou has to be on the floor.

Why can't Shaq improve?

What have you seen from Ducoure so far that makes you think he should get minutes? From what i have seen so far at worst Sa and Doorson are equal with Ducoure right now. i get that everything is matchup dependent.

Well he’s gotta be in a spot to contribute to earn his schollie. 2 years and he’s played maybe 4 minutes
still comes down to his decision. and if he wants the rutgers degree we really cant force him to leave. not without damaging a relationship

He can always get "hurt" and "retire" to be a player manager

Decoure is young, inexperienced, but athletic. I still like his upside. He had a very good game at MN, but has really slumped since then. Hopefully, this year's experience leads to exponential growth next year.

BTW, I wish our other bigs could shoot 75% from the line. Decoure's got good touch for a big-bodied forward.

Has Bullock played one meaningful minute this year? What kind of shape does he have to be in to run the floor for 2-3 minutes, grab a rebound, make a pass, hit an open shot or make a free throw.

He can PLAY his way into shape (see Shaq O' Neal). However, if he's just unwilling, or unable...then Pike needs to explain this to Bullock / his former coach. We can't afford to waste ships on players who are either incapable of playing or unwilling to pay the dues to see the court.

Green, I think all three contribute about equally. We know what we get from Sa: occasional block, soft on O and D, would love if he could hit mid-range jumper, gone in March; I really like Shaquille, but he is so hobbled that I think what we see is what we’re gonna get; MD is 18 has athleticism and skills but is confused out there—doesn’t know when to and when not to be aggressive, confused by game’s physical and mental speed, has been, I think, surprised by quality of competition. With development, he could be a decent to good four or five. Anyway, that’s what I see.

From what I've seen from Douc; he's either unable to fight for position in the post or likes taking jumpers from the key that he hits on occasion. We need him to learn to post and back his way into easier shots or kick it out to open up[ the offense or find the cutting player when he's doubled. I'm convinced that he takes that step later this year or into next season. And we also need him to hit the glass on the offensive end and pick up scraps but maybe he's just not strong enough yet? I thought he was more ready when I first saw him?

Sa has not improved at all like I had hoped. He might even be a little worse. Hopefully Carter can be a big impact but who knows until he does it at this level? Right now, I don't see them asking Shaq Doorson back for a 5th year. We need more help and he's just not a Big 10 player. Also misses many FT's.

Next year Carter, Eugene, Johnson, Doorson and Duke. Unless you have a replacement lined up Shaq is needed next year.

I respect your basketball knowledge, Greene. But MD, imo, has the higher ceiling. And needs minutes now. I think he should average 20 mins per game in conference.

Maybe you know: Is there a chance Luke N picks up any minutes next year in a pinch?

Ash

Your reply made it seem (to me) that Mathis, Kiss / Carter were contingent on Bullock. I don't think that's what you're saying or meant.

I'm frustrated that we give a kid a ship who can't carry the water. If we want to do this in the future we should aim at 5 star players who want to play with lower star
teammates. We eat one ship, but land a WHALE.

My post indicates you take the good with the bad..we took a shot in the dark on Eugene and it worked perfectly..but we were forced to take a couple in hat class because nobody wanted to come here. It is what it is.

The guards never threw it into Duke when he had good position in the post against the cream puffs early in the season.

I don't get the obsession with Bullock around here. Every program has depth guys, no program goes 12 deep. Every time I've been at practice he's out there and he's giving a look to the starters. He's not good enough to play and neither is Souf (who won't play next year with Kiss and Mathis) and that is fine. Pike is doing a great job recruiting and turning over the roster and we just need to be patient. As hard as that is sometimes...
