Am I missing something from that article or was that it? I mean you basically summed up the article in one line.

Either way the benefit dunleavy had was no one in front of him for the most part. Alex won't see the court much this season bc there are multiple guys ahead of him. Which btw I'm ok with. Let him gain weight and experience in practice.

I think the video says a lot....I see the similarities....One doesnt always need a lot of words, and I deemed it worth posting....

Agreed. He may get a few spot minutes at either guard position but his main goal will be to go hard in practices and work on his strength. His opportunity will come later. K loves shooters and the kid can shoot.

Duke has done well with legacies. Alex will eventually play and will be patient until he has that opportunity. He has some weight work to do. I look forward to enjoying his journey.

Agreed and I am an old fart so I remember his dad when he wasnt hampered by injuries playing for Bucky Waters late 60s and early 70s. Bulldog on the court and talent in genes....

jmo but think he would be a prime candidate for a redshirt. One year in the weight room and he back 20 pounds heavier with four years of eligibility
Anyone know how often that happens? I know K says he regrets not redshirting Ryan Kelly in '09-'10... Alex Murphy had an injury that made it convenient, and MP3, to a lesser degree... and we tried to convince Semi, right? Any that were just straight-up, totally healthy, completely optional, deliberate redshirts?

There was another forgotten man in a class just a few years ago. He's now an All American and Captain his Sr. season!
He didn't play much as a freshman. He was a McDAA coming in, too.

Beyond 6 guys, anyone who plays will be someone who hasn't contributed before and I'll be glad for his contributions. Even if I guess correctly who the 7th and 8th guys in the rotation are, it'll still be someone who hasn't done much previously and I'll be thrilled about them. I don't think it's going to be Alex, but if he's wearing a Duke jersey, yippee!

He wasn't really forgotten. The same conversation was posted about Grayson and he shined when he hit the court. The Wisconsin game will forever be one of his top performances at Duke.
He weighed more physically then Alex too lol

However he didnt really hit the court SIGNIFICANTLY until later in '15. The other 3 were IMPACT guys from the start of '14-'15.

Winslow didn't hit his stride until midway through the season. He was coming off the bench too. Alex doesn't have the physical features YET to play significant minutes. It's worth seeing if he's willing to wait his turn to see the court

Some combination of Javin, Vrank, Tucker, Goldwire, Jack, and Alex has to get 30 minutes a game, if not more. Half of those minutes probably have to go to a guard/wing. That is with zero injuries, minimal foul trouble, and Bolden being up to the task. All legitimate worries. Somebody "not being counted on for much" is going to have to produce.

Even if Bagley comes, we need at least one guard/wing from that group to step up. Anything ranging from a Andre Dawkins (more than enough) to Daniel Ewing (dream scenario) Frosh year would be more than enough. I don't think that is too much to ask from that group. We will see.

The kid looks like a nice pick up and should really contribute by year 3 & 4 but Mike Dunleavy he is not.

Meh....Winslow averaged 29 mpg. Grayson 9 mpg. OFC
Yes but all of Winslow games weren't stellar early on and a lot of posters were on the side that Grayson would surprise a lot his freshman year granted Sheed leaving the team helped him he still wasn't unthought of. If Duke adds Bagley I don't see much time for Alex his freshman year not when Duke has Trent for time at the sg/wf spot. I hope Alex plays more that means K meant what he said about developing his bench

I don't see many minutes for Alex whether we get Bagely or not.

I don't either. I don't see Duke going no more then seven deep again. I really don't see K changing at this point in his career.
That's:
Trevon
Grayson
Trent
Carter
Bolden
Bench:
Javin
Big V
Mid Bench:
White
Alex
Tucker
Goldwire
Duke lands Bagley just replace Big V with Bolden.

How many minutes does "mid-bench" translate to in your scenario. Personally I see at least one of your "mid-bench" guys contributing more than you think. Call me optimistic....OFC

I hope your right. I said the same thing last season about Jeter, Javin, White and Big V. One transferred, one played some, and two played mop up minutes. So I'm optimistic in saying any under the radar players will see meaniful minutes.

Unless K consistently plays 3 bigs (Bagley or no Bagley), there is at least 15 minutes per game for a guard/wing off of the bench. The questions are: Does one guy get all or almost all of those minutes, or are they split up and who gets what?

I bet Alex sees 5 mpg during ACC play. We'll need a 4th guard to come in and facilitate. I trust Alex to dribble, defend and pass over Tucker, but we'll see. Maybe Bagley/Carter/Jav works with just 2 guards? I'm already excited to see this play out.

Something tells me Jordan is a little further along at this point, but I agree I think we definitely see some PT for at least ONE perimeter guy off the bench.

Tucker is the highest rated, and can really fill it up but so much happens we don't know. For instance Jack White could have worked and improved his game so much this summer he really makes a push. OFC

I think some are forgetting that Justise was battling rib and shoulder injuries for the 1st half of that season....
