Alabama offers Bear Bryant's great grandson and....

247 Composite Jump:

QB Paul Tyson of Trussville (Ala.) Hewitt-Trussville - 432 to 296

Kid is the same player he was, but received an Alabama offer and jumped 136 spots in a single evaluation cycle. Nothing against the kid, but this shows how pathetic the rating systems are.

Getting upset about recruiting rankings is like getting upset that the College Gameday crew picked against your team that morning. A bunch of people who aren't even playing in, coaching, or betting on the game are telling you an outcome.

Actually, that gives me a great idea. A futures prediction market for high school recruits. Imagine being able to buy a contract that a recruit will start at least x number of games, or rush for at least y # of yards in his college career, or win a Heisman Trophy. You could actually get a decent idea of who the good recruits are, in theory. The only problem is since there are so many recruits the market will be diluted.

No doubt he would be a at least a high 4 star if he were committed to either Bama or LSU. Just ridiculous.

I agree. The ONLY thing that legitimately matters is if your contract has recruiting bonuses. It's not like kids get better or worse according to their rating.

I wasn't really stating he was. I was reflecting on how there are people out there who get wound up over these things. And you could also extend it to getting excited over recruiting ratings.

The recruiting ratings are a lot like movie or restaurant reviews. If you're a famous director or chef you are going to get a favorable bump in your ratings.

Not that I agree with the ranking but it is important to acknowledge that this guy is a 2019 recruit and for 99% of the 2019 class, their evaluation are still very much ongoing.

Throw that in with Saban being maybe the most respected evaluator at any level of football, and your going to see a big jump.

I think what really makes this one appear ridiculous is that this kid is Bear Bryant’s great grandson and that brings in a nepotism component that makes us question If the Bama offer is legit or not.

Personally, I’d love for Bama to start signing pro style QBs again

I think the kid is a legit player, but the timing of the jump (right after the Bama offer) speaks volumes. Another point is that all of the recruiting pundits have the state of Alabama's 2018 class rated extremely high compared to Mississippi's. In fact, Jake Wimperly was spouting off about how MS had only 1 4-star while Alabama had 12-13 4- and 5-stars kids in 2018. He was jabbering on about how MS was going to get smoked in the MS-AL game. I guess we see how that turned out.

Sidepoint: I'm not sure why that guy is allowed on the air. Very little substance with his rhetoric and very little fact checking with callers etc. It's not like he's a message board poster; he's supposed to be legit media...riiiggghhttt (exaggerated for effect).

Would love it if he turns down their offer. Wouldn't that be a hoot? Especially if he got an offer from Auburn and took it.

according to 247's composite rankings for 4 and 5 stars:
MS-3
AL-10

247's rankings:
MS-4
AL-6

Not sure what recruiting service Wimberly was referring to, but I'm sure it was to whatever site fit his narrative best. It's a FACT MS recruits are severely underrated on a yearly basis. We were making some head way with Steve at Scout. I'm not sure how much pull he has now considering Jason, Murphy and others have recently gone down for some unknown reason. Generally I do believe AL has more top end prospects on a given year, but they also have a bigger population.

And yeah, we saw how the AL/MS game turned out....
