The size of shoes that next coach will have to fill after Saban leaves will be the same shoes Frank had to fill with Osborne.
Unfortunately Osborne was rather tall and Frank was close to being a midget with small feet so he had no chance fitting in Toms shoes.

Big Red followed up their loss with a 7-7 season and a recruiting class ranking of 39 with Solich.

Saban still with Alabama and will probably win no less than 11 games this season. 22-2 in their last 24 games. Another Top 5 recruiting class in the works. That's some serious signs of decline. Probably 4 first-round draft picks this upcoming draft, too.

If this is your definition of decline, I'd refrain from throwing things against the wall to see what sticks.
When they don't win the natty this year, and we continue to see a loss or even two losses as the years go on, and there's a shift in power away from Alabama, come back to this thread. That absolute throttling by Clemson in the natty last year was the kick start. It'll take a while, they won't suck, but they won't be the juggernaut anymore. I believe Nebraska was still elite for what, 5 years? Same concept, just very noticeably not the same juggernaut.

Is this some sort of bad joke? Nebraska was not elite from 2002-2007. Quite the polar opposite.

Until Nick Saban leaves, they will be a perennial playoff contender.

'98-'02.....Basically while Solich was there. Getting the job done but obviously not the same juggernaut.

What I see is a slow decline. Last year's title game showed it for me. Outmatched and outplayed, didn't look like the juggernaut anymore. That's why I compared it to 2001 vs. Miami. Outmatched and out played, we didn't look like the juggernaut anymore. No nose dive for Bama, just a slow decline while maybe 2 or 3 teams take their jabs for a little while, Clemson being one of the new juggernauts. That's all.

What game did you watch? Alabama ran all up and down the field on Clemson and then killed themselves in the red zone etc..

I watched the game where Clemson blew Alabama out 44-16 and Bama didn't look like they belonged on the field. I watched Trevor Lawrence shred their defense as a true freshman and Tua look like he had zero answers. That's what I watched.

Alabama has a major recruiting edge over Nebraska. Much like saying Ohio State, Texas, USC, Georgia, Penn State, Florida etc.... These programs have history, big time boosters, and amazing recruits in their backyard. Nebraska has everything except the recruits, that is why Meyer, Saban, Dabo, Jimbo, Stoops, Harbaugh, Franklin would never even consider Nebraska. They just wouldn't want to work twice as hard as they would at their past/current gigs.

Back in the day Nebraska just bulldozed people. S&C has come a long way with all the nutrionists, techology, and money being poured into the programs. Everybody gets exposure, UCF gets primetime games. Memphis gets Gameday. Cincinnati gets exposure now.

In the 90s Nebraska was top five, you saw kids innNew York wearing Husker shirts on tv. It was a brand, still is, but high school kids today don't remember what happened in the 90's.If you are in your 40's right now, do you remember the 70's?

Definitely see a difference in Alabama's team lately. They seem to make a lot more mistakes, a lot more missed tackles, and their secondary has seemed very suspect. Defense has definitely not reloaded as well as they have in recent memory. Offensively, they are much better and I wonder if Saban is trending more toward a philosophy similar to Frost's where you focus on overwhelming teams with your offense.

Their schedule remains soft so their record will not take a hit until real serious gaps in their team appear OR until other SEC teams catch up.

Alabama is predicted to have 8 guys go IN THE FIRST ROUND in this year's NFL draft. They have the #1 dual threat QB coming in next year, and they still have a legendary coaching staff.

2001 Nebraska had 4 guys get drafted that year, none in the first round. Their 2002 recruiting class was #35 with only a couple 4 star players, and they did not have a legendary coaching staff.

Alabama may lose a game here and there to very special teams, but they are in no way losing their elite status.

Then u dont know sh*t about football.... again Alabama ran and threw the ball all over Clemson. Had they not killed themselves all game, especially in the red zone, that's a completely different game. The fact that you compare that game to Nebraska-Miami 2001 makes you look like a complete fool.

Comparing the 2018 Alabama team to the 2001 Huskers is just straight up laughable. 2001 Nebraska was probably not even a legit top 8 team in the country. They needed 8 teams to lose in order to get into the game.

Thread title is misleading but I believe we're seeing the slow decline of Alabama Football like we once saw with Nebraska. I firmly think their run is over and it started with getting blown out in the title game last year. Saturday's loss to LSU is just another step in that direction. To me, their loss in the national title game last year is of the same degree as our loss to Miami in 2001.

I think he has made some questionable calls, sure. But its just silly to compare Frost to Saban at this point. Frost has been a HC for 3 1/2 years total. Though I do suppose anything is possible, however unlikely.

I get your point though.
Fair, but you get the point. That's what I was after.

Ya know 44-40 proves your point pretty well. Not sure how 44-16 proves Bama "ran and threw all over Clemson"....buuuuut yeah, scoreboard.

Bama only played four dlineman against clemson and their top corner was undraftable...bama was lucky to keep it close up to half. The outcome was inevitable...go back and watch it..they were dominated on both lines...

I just think for some reason Bama didn't show up to that game. They were both evenly matched teams, one team didn't show up so it was a blow out.

I just pointed out that they could barely field a defensive line, and their corners were overmatched. That is objective fact. Clemson dominated them...and the score should have been worse.

Alabama had the best defensive line in the country last year besides Clemson. Sure Clemson dominated them...only because Alabama didn't bother to show up. They play that game 10 times, each team would go 5-5. They were both great teams. I think it was a fluke that Clemson won so easily.
