Terrible move by UGA. If you are going to fire Richt you better have a big name lined up to replace him, not a coordinator with no HC experience.

He's been a hot name for several years, and he's a UGA graduate. I doubt anyone else was seriously considered.

We'll see if it pans out. He's been pretty locked in to Sabans system. He may be able to pull some of that staff with him, and he's done a hell of a job as a D Coordinator.

The last time UGA went out and hired a coordinator from a national championship program they did pretty well. Then again, they just fired that guy.

The last D Coordinator that I remember doing very well as a big time head coach is Stoops, who was DC at Fla.

I guess Saban counts but I don't think he was DC at Michigan St. Could be wrong.

Pat Natduzzi was the only DC to get a big job (if Pitt still counts) last year. Seems like OC's have had the most success last few years.

Only one mentioned so far to join him in Athens is Scott Cochran, strength and conditioning coach, according to al.com.

Supposedly was "HC in waiting", sort of, as I recall. He could always come back to Alabama after Saban retires, if he works out at Georgia.

When Saban leaves, Dabo is getting that job.

People at Clemson are a bit annoyed at how much contact he maintains in Alabama with key donors and supporters.

I would certainly rather live in Athens than Tuscaloosa. T-Town sucks in general. But at the moment, Alabama is a more highly placed name in college FB. But as someone posted, Dabo would be a better choice unless Smart really does well at Georgia, and might be more "gettable".

So was the Bear. It took several coaches before they found one that could even come close. And maybe a new generation of fans. They don't let go easy at UAT.

Maybe. Kind of odd, saw on Twitter that in 100+ years of football, UGA has only hired an active HC to be their HC once.

What's the difference between a maggot & a Bama fan?

A maggot knows when to get off a dead bear.

If Smart does really well at UGA I can't see him leaving Athens for bama as both he and his wife are UGA alums. He is from Montgomery though.

I think Gene Stallings came close. He only got the 1 NC, but I think he would have competed for more if he had not been derailed by the Antonio Langham scandal.
