As far as I recall, Blumenhal was voted in after this came to light. He also could be voted out by his constituents. Doesn't make it right.

Kavanagh hasn't apologized for his lies yet. He can't be removed from the appointment (generally).

I looks like all of the sexual stuff is quickly being disproved. That leaves lying about his drinking and blacking out and remembering the night before. Since we are talking about drinking 35 years a ago? How can you prove that he blacked out? Unless he was admitted for alcohol poisoning and was unresponsive as documented by a medical professional, how are you going to prove that? On top of that, how do you prove that he did not remember the night before? I would assume that any witness would have also been drinking. He may have lied but unless you have medical documentation, you cannot refute his testimony.

If you can't prove the sexual allegations, you can't disprove them. More voices from his past are corroborating the heavy drinking allegations. He's far from free and clear on this.

You’re on drugs if you think the excessive booze is going to carry any water or hold up his confirmation. You all shot your wad on sexual assault thinking the #metoo culture would be enough to carry the lie over the goal line.

You got me on that one. You are right, I can't disprove that he did not do any of this. He said that he likes beer and had moments that he was not proud of, that gives him cover any any "heavy drinking" that he might be accused of. If this is the new bar moving forward, I am not sure anyone will ever be able to be appointed to the SC moving forward. I am just glad that you were not in a position of power in England pre WW2. Churchill would have been in prison and who knows how the war would have ended.

I just saw an article about Ruth Vader and she admitted that she was drunk during Obama's swearing in. If showing up at an official function, wearing her robe and being drunk ( a picture shows her passed out) is not enough to get someone impeached then heavy drinking should not disqualify someone for drinking over 35 years ago.

I think the idea on the Kavanaugh heavy drinking is that if he is deemed to have been a heavy drinker back then, then maybe the night in question did happen and he just doesn't recall. Nothing needs to be proven, there just needs to be enough to view him as not being a great choice and then he doesn't get the votes.

How? The internet was not even invented until Al Gore got involved, so the Urban Dictionary was not invented either. In the 80's there were many many shows and movies about the Devils Triangle (off the coast of FL) so more likely not not, a high schooler would name a drinking game off of a place where odd things happen and not a 3-way, which while might be common place today in your world was not a common thing in the early 80's. Personally, if 2 guys were involved we just called it a tag team (studio wrestling was also big back then)

Agreed. If he lied under oath, he should be gone. Just like Clinton should have been gone for doing the same. That being said, lying under oath and choosing ambiguous words about heavy drinking in high school and college is not lying under oath, it's called protecting yourself. If you remember, Clinton's now famous "it depends on what the meaning of is is" was a brilliant line and he was protecting himself about getting a blow job while in the oval office, in current times. BK is being ambiguous about something that happened 35 years ago and quite honestly, is appropriate when trying to remember about a night of drinking. If he was ambitious about raping someone, that is a different story all together.

I thought I was sheltered......summer of 82 when I was 19, i walked in on a 3-way at a party where the recipient was a 15 yr old girl. That fall my girlfriend's suite mate offered the backdoor if I'd date her. She was from beckley and was getting blasted in the backside in HS.

And I can tell you that the kids I knew from the two local Catholic schools smoked more weed and had more sex than us poor public school kids.

But you are correct about 1 thing, the norms of 1983 were completely different than today. the wife and I had that same discussion. Grabbing a girl inappropriately in 83 wasn't generally considered sexual assault.
