Just how bad is Missouri baseball, you ask?

They are DFL in several major categories.

Last in pitching.. ERA 7.24
Last in hitting.. BA .256
Last in opposing batting average.. .256
Last in batters struck out.. 140
Last in OBP.. .361
Last in doubles.. 19
Last in HR.. 13
Last in total bases.. 210
Last in hit by pitch.. 10
Last in wins.. 7

Also.. we play Missouri but the Sharks do not.

With our bullpen I feel like if we get ahead by 2 runs or more at any point in the game then we're going to win. So many dang weapons, and just when you think you've got our go-to guys pegged, we trot our 9th or 10th option out of the pen and he can throw SEC closer caliber stuff too.

We have 14 pitchers who have thrown at least two innings and have an ERA under 2.00. That is absurd.

That is going to be a must-sweep series at home in May.

It's amazing how little they've been able to cash in on being in the SEC. They lucked out by joining when the SEC East was ******, and they somehow backed into two SEC championship games while beating like one team a year with a winning SEC record, but otherwise they haven't capitalized at all. Haven't upped their game for football or baseball and haven't taken advantage of weaker competition in basketball.

We can also bring out two guys in the 5th inning and get to the 9th. Having Landon Sims and Brandon Smith is a huge cushion to a starting pitcher having an off day.

Imagine having the Cardinals, Royals, SEC money and the world's 2nd worst BBQ and still sucking at baseball every year.

They don't belong, nobody wants them, and they don't share our values.

I have no idea why someone thought the Kansas City and St. Louis TV markets were worth watering down the SEC.

I'm curious as to where you rank that stuff they call "Carolina BBQ"...
Personally I like Carolina BBQ. Of the regional BBQs I rank Carolina first, Texas second, Kansas City third, and Memphis fourth. I don’t dislike any of the above. I don’t know that it was the best but the most memorable BBQ I’ve had was in Minnesota of all places.

I grew up swearing by Memphis BBQ

But when I got older I realized I don't need everything slathered in sugary sauces. That's fine every now and then, but there's better options out there that don't dominate the meat.

They were worth it because they are the only major college athletic program in a fairly large state with two big TV markets. It's about $$$$$. They need to be moved into the West and Auburn needs to go into the East. The only reason it hasn't happened is the Third Saturday in October.

It depends on what I'm eating. Ribs or other meat by itself - no Carolina sauce for me. But it is my favorite on a pulled pork sandwich with slaw. Also really good on appetizers (called something different everywhere I go) that is basically fries with cheese, bacon, jalapeños......and bbq meat of choice.

SOS per Warren Nolan For Reference
Ark: 8
Tenn:33
Bama:37
MSU:41
Sharks:75
Vandy:84
USCe: 109
UGA: 122
LSU: 149
Auburn: 163
TAMU: 169
Florida: 180
Uk: 202
Mizz: 202 (opponents are 73-112)

Our ERA is better than it looks (as is Ark's)

and

Mizzu sucks, vs teams that suck.

Our SOS is underrated and Arkansas is overrated. Agree that Mizzou sucks. They'll be lucky to win 5 SEC games this year.

I'm curious as to how much of that market Mizzou actually captures. As you said, it made a ton of sense for TV contract negotiations. Missouri has a population of 6 million. The Kansas City and St. Louis MSA's have a combined population of over 5 million, and presumably Mizzou has a decent representation in the parts of those MSA's outside of Missouri (of course the flip side is their representation is probably watered down in the missouri parts of those MSAs by former Kansas and Illinois residents.

With college sports being less of a deal there, I'm not sure they have a higher than the average number of eyeballs per SEC team. Probably better than MSU or Ole Miss and Arkansas, but not better than the average. Of course the reality is they were part of the A&M deal. We needed another team, and they allowed us to get A&M and then they at least aren't dragging down the average eyeballs per team, and the two of them together was probably a pretty big improvement.

The vinegar based is often called Low Country BBQ...

Carolina mustard and Carolina vinegar are two of the best out there.

I really like it too. Pork is good but chicken is the bomb. Usually served in joints that are only open thurs-sat.

Carolina Mustard (especially Maurice’s) would be the worst barbecue if it weren’t for ****** White Sauce. Carolina Vinegar on ribs is the tits.

I'm not sure what to make out of our SOS right now. Our opening weekend looks tough (Texas Tech has won 15 straight, BTW), but beyond that:

Tulane is currently 9-7
Kent State is 6-5
ULL is 10-8
East Mich is 4-5

Some of these schools might take off when they get into conference play (Kent State). Tulane has a big week coming up; they have 4 games against La Tech and LSU all at home.

It doesn't matter how many people in the market watch mizzou. It matters that they are now "local" viewers vs "out of market" viewers. The SEC gets more money for a local viewer. A Lot more money and it doesn't matter if they are watching Mizzou or not.

Having those 2.5 million extra households in Missouri means an extra 2.5 million a month to the SEC.
