Last week the notion was floated that the tutorgate selective suspensions might negatively affect effort by connoting a message of concession in certain games where you are an underdog and CLEARLY need every able body to compete. Some agreed some disagreed. Hard to say who was right but the shocking lack of preparedness and effort I saw, especially on defense, tends to support the point to my eyes perhaps among both players and coaches. Not saying that was the sole cause of the debacle or that it wasn't the right call. It just really stinks to be in a position where you have to make such a decision.

Surely you can't think playing Gay, Autry, et al. in the Auburn game would have been a better move? So what, we lose by 3 TDs instead of 5 and get some kind of moral victory?
If anything the lambasting we took reinforces the idea that sitting those guys was the right call.
The play remains playing those guys in the UT, Arkansas and Ole Miss games that we have a chance (nay, an expectation) to win.

It just says to me we're gonna need "all hands on deck" to win games even against teams we thought were sure wins a few weeks ago.

It's not about the games. It's the message you send to your team.

I was wanting to go full strength but now I'm glad we did not do that. I believe we still would have lost. Having Gay would not have stopped us from spotting them 21 points in the first 5 minutes.

I still don't think we conceded the game or that the team felt like that's what the coaches were doing, I think we just did a poor job of being ready to play.

For the record, I still don't think those guys play in a road game this season. LSU, Alabama, and Ole Miss could very well be the games you see most of them in. The travel roster situation is an important factor in all of this.

You know.... I didn’t buy that prior to Saturday’s game. However now I’m coming around to it. They should have been suspended first 7 games and been done (let them skip ABC). However without the pick 6.... who knows if we beat Kentucky.

But.... who knows. It probably didn’t create a good vibe on the sideline when the coach and captain QB are scared shitless and look overwhlemed before the defense hits the field. That had the most to do with the poor start.

I hope this is correct. That would mean there is actually a legitimate plan in place.

It's not about the games. It's the message you send to your team.

The message I want to send to the team is "If we play our cards right, play hard, and put everyone's talent where it can contribute the best to the team's overall success, we will keep our bowl streak alive and continue to graduate players who never missed the post-season. We are going to put ourselves in position to do that and more. Your role is to play hard in every game, on every play, to the best of your ability. My job is to get the whole team to a bowl game this year. Together we will do it."

It's hindsight but I kinda agree with you suspension idea. Too many mind games this way.

No, I direct your attention to the penultimate sentence in my post which said, "Not saying that it was the sole cause of the debacle or that it wasn't the right call".

Very sad that because of tutorgate there are games that we essentially have to say to the team, I don't think this one is winnable or maybe a better way to put it is the odds of winning are so slim that we cannot justify using a limited resource to increase those odds.

Moorehead is always trying to play chess. I still think he would be much better suited for the NFL game as a coordinator. He overthinks the offense and the overall game plan way too much. Which is strange because most of the time it doesn't look like he thought much about it at all the way the team is so unprepared. i think that goes back to him being to much of a laid back nice guy. he expects his team to be ready without coaching them to be. He just wants to hang out and have fun.

I mean, it would have been nice to have our best LB in the exact hole

Whitlow strolled through on the first play of the game. Maybe it changes the game, maybe not. But we'll never know.

Ok I’m in the right thread. Missed this earlier because a- I overlooked it or b- I was drinking. Probably b since it’s easier to watch and survive State football with a buzz. That’s been my prescription for a long time!

I certainly hope we don't play them against Alabama and LSU. We are gonna get skull drug there with or without Gay and Autry.

What message does it send to the team if you play them against AU & lose by 3 touchdowns?

My thoughts are you sit them 8 straight. Show up with the guys that do it right. No message because you let players know we have rules. Do the work and you earn a spot after suspensions.
I’m going to war with the guys that do it right. Play the suspended players at the end. They can prove it at practice when they are suspended. Bad decisions don’t deserve any kind of benefits. Play with the guys who do it right
