Advice on Wireless Printer for Home

My printer finally crapped out, and I'm looking for a replacement. Doesn't have to be heavy duty and multi-function, it's just for occasional home use. The most important thing I'm looking for is ease of setup. You know, how I complete the link between laptop, Wi-Fi, and the printer. The instructions on the previous one were written in language I'm sure was easy for computer programmers and knowledgeable people, but almost unreadable to me. Any suggestions?

Look at an Epson Ecotank

I recently dumped a Canon that was supposedly a "top of the line" inkjet but that had atrocious wireless performance, even when using a computer sitting right next to my router and about 5 feet away from the printer! I got tired of having to force the printer to use a fixed IP address and messing with the print spooler. I bought a new Epson Ecotank printer, and it has been by far the fastest and most reliable wireless printer I've ever owned. Also, the Epson Print app for our phones works so seamlessly, my wife actually told me "you did good" on making the upgrade (I usually get nothing but grief for my electronic upgrades over the years). Ink costs are also low for this one, and the speed and quality are super.

I didn't enjoy the price of printers these days, but I have zero regrets about this one. So much less stressful than the last two Canons I've owned (especially the more recent one that I luckily ebayed away).

We have this and we pay $5/month for HP Instant Ink. HP Instant Ink sends you new cartridges when you are low on on ink automatically. You get up to 100 pages to print/month. Nothing pissed me off more than having to pay $50 for a new cartridges when I printed maybe 20 times and it dried out. They have a cheaper plan for $3/month for 50 pages.

I second this one. I bought a Brother MFC-2710 does copy/scan/print/fax and double sided as well. Great buy and was easy to setup and use.

Another for the Brother (laser)

I bought the MFC-L2710DW over 2 years ago (on sale for $139.99). Love it. Home use, but I probably print more than the average home user. I'm still using the original starter toner cartridge, though I recently purchased a high yield replacement toner ($77 plus tax) - current toner cartridge is low.

The printer is quiet, fast, and prints at a very low cost per page. I certainly don't miss replacing all the ink cartridges on my old HP (which was a great printer)

The printer does not print color, though it does scan in color. Not a problem for me.

Don’t bother with an inkjet if you print occasionally. I used to have to buy an ink cartridge pretty much every time I printed because they would dry out. I bought a laser and the toner never dries out. Yes the toner cartridges do cost more. However, they don’t dry out and last years if you don’t print often. I bought an HP laserjet about 9 years ago. Replaced the toner twice for each color. Still works like the day we got it. I can’t speak to the recent models however.

I'll wrap it up. Went to various stores in the area to see what was available. Lots of printers on the shelf but the majority were not available, due to the supply chain woes I guess. Looked at those available, read the data on the boxes and then checked the internet for reviews. Even those that advertised "easy to install" had bad reviews. Couldn't find any that filled my need. Finally had a brain flash, went to the cabinet where I keep all my wires and cables and found the one that direct links from my laptop to the printer. You know, like we did before wi-fi. My printer is very light so I'll just move it to the kitchen table where I work (about 20 feet) when I need it. I sure hope the suppliers work on improving the link methodology and/or their instructions.

Used to be a huge Brother printer proponent. Still love the monochrome laser printers. But the color laser have really let me down lately. HP may cost a little more, but for business, they can't be beat.

Last printer I bought for the company, we had to send a guy an hour and half away to buy an open box floor model. All the local box stores were sold out of everything.
