My oldest son (13), who is all about sneakers and is without a doubt a 'sneaker head' is always asking to earn money somehow so he can buy sneakers. I would say in the last 3-4 years he never EVER mentioned adidas. It was Nike or UA (curry's basically).

Well, the other day, we went to the mall and he explained how Adidas is really coming up and they are really kind of taking over Nike. Now, I live in Wake forest (just north of Raleigh). So, I am not sure exactly if it's a local thing, but thought it was cool.

I told him when I was growing up, Adidas was THE brand!

I believe the doubled (or a similarly large increase) their marketshare in footwear in the last year at Nikes expense.

They've become a much bigger player in the casual sneaker market, but not so much athletically.
