Was arrested for having a pound of weed. Apparently a felony charge right before the tournament
Plus "paraphernalia" and cash (of course he had cash, he's getting paid to play basketball). Not a smoker, but this seems a little over blown for a college kid who can afford the pound of pot. Unless they prove he had intent to distribute, this is kind of weak. Law is the law though, I guess,

UGA football players do worse than this in mass!

That said, if Oats plays him in the NCAA I will lose the last little bit of respect I have for Nate.

Even besides the moral concerns and the fact that he seems to be kind of an a$shole, Oats has one FF in seven years. That’s certainly not a terrible result. But it’s not the kind of ceiling we want a guy to have here and frankly he’d have a lot LESS money for recruiting here than he has at freaking Alabama.

(Compare that to Bruce Pearl who took Auburn to two Final Fours even though his recruiting budget there was probably about a dollar ninety-eight.)

While I love Mark Pope as a person I’m willing to entertain the idea of replacing him with a lot of people. But not really feeling Nate Oats.

The only reason you have a pound of pot is to sell it.

While I personally think it should be legal for recreational use for 21+, in Alabama it’s not so a really dumb move on his part.

Illegal Drug Possession (Recreational Marijuana)There are two degrees or levels of unlawful possession of marijuana in Alabama.
First-degree possession is defined as either of the following:
  • Possessing marijuana for something other than personal use (Class C felony)
  • Personal use after a previous conviction of unlawful possession of marijuana (Class D felony)

They did not charge him with trafficking so they're not likely to do so. Rappers & Gangsters consider carrying a large amount of grass for personal use a flex.
I've not smoked any weed in decades, but I hear nowadays that it's all quality, one-toke stuff ... do you really need a pound ??
I guess he wanted to "Keep it gangsta, Dawg, keep it gangsta !!"

This is all so silly.

A serious offense with tons of finger wagging and pearl clutching in Alabama is just a normal Tuesday in Michigan, Ohio or even Missouri.

Just legalize federally, tax the hell out of it, regulate it just like the demonstrably worse alcohol and take advantage of a new revenue stream. This state could use it.

I won’t lie, I consume marijuana regularly. It’s much easier to drive to a legal state, stock up for several months, drive back and hope to not get caught than it is to mess with the black market plug who might have only one kind for months on end.

The fact that me driving to another state to buy some dried plant matter that I like to combust and inhale in the privacy of my own residence is treated like a serious crime in this state, but isn’t an issue at all in other states is dumb AF.

At some point, this has to fall on the coach. Brandon Miller, trying to get a past player eligible repeatedly, now drug possession issues.

This is why im not sure about Oats. Hes building a reputation and not a good one.
