Not hating on Whitney. Things didn't work out, that's life and that's okay.

But if ya'll remember, Kentucky took off last year after Quade transferred mid season. Both Green and Whitney had a lot of question marks surrounding their roles on the team. The departures mean those questions don't need to be answered.

I think the Cats are at a point now where everyone is getting comfortable with their roles, Whitney was the only question mark. Well, other than Allen but he's hurt.

Thoughts?

Dumb take.

We need his body for practice. Whitney role in the games was non-existent

Yes and Whitney was the guy to save the Cats when they get in foul trouble right? Like he's done all year

You are trying to make a counter point but failed miserably

Whitney gave you 5 more fouls to with

Other key players will now get in serious foul trouble

Bring a better take next time

I don't think he was dragging the team down, like Quade. Whitney was fighting for playing time and lost. Losing the extra body hurts more than losing Quade last year. Foul trouble could be detrimental, if Allen doesn't come back this season to fill that space.

Hell, Cal signed a baseball player to just come over so he could play 5 on 5. Now we will not have the practice players to run real scrimmages, which at this point in the season, may not matter.

One postive, IMHO, is that Cal will not be able to yank Brooks/Juzang out of the game so quick now, especially when we have foul trouble. Our team will go as far as one or both of them step up and help the team.

Practice will be 5 scholly players against 3 schollies + 2 walkons. Or 4 on 4.

Not a great situation. Of course this far into the season I'm not sure how needed is 5 on 5 with 2 games a week.

Need 12 scholly players always.

Totally agree and it sets in concrete alot of stuff.

These guys know who is playing the most minutes now.

I like the fact that he is gone before one of our 2 or 3 toughest remaining games on the schedule too.

Whitney simply being a body and nothing else isn't going to result in extra W's.

I think you're still missing the point others have mentioned to you. You compared his loss to Green's and others have given examples of how that just isn't the case, but you fail to see that so far. And, he isn't just a body. He is extremely athletic and was important in practice And, there was still hope he would develop his game more to at least be beneficial in certain points of the game. Being gone leaves us very short on guards as we start 3 and we've seen Ashton in foul trouble recently Whitney could at least buy us some time.

Juzang is guard. We have 4 guards and 4 bigs, we are golden.

Unless he was just toxic, there's no downside to having him. He was long and athletic. He should be able to play defense and rebound. He was depth.

I think Quade was to the point he was dragging the team down.

He should have been able to rebound, based on his physical gifts, but he didn't. He averaged less than a rebound per game.

He was definitely a head scratcher.
Kept waiting for that one monster dunk to ignite him but it never came.
He had it easy in hs and developed bad habits, then obviously didnt want to put in the work at UK to get better.

Its easier just to move on and play for a middle tier program like Illinois or GTown where he wont have to give max. effort to get minutes.

Plus we have another #1 class coming in next yr so he saw the writing on the Big Blue Wall.

No sense in sugar coating this stuff guys:

Kentucky is not for everyone

Bu buy

Next man up

To me it's best for the team overall. None of us know for sure what the environment was like with KW and his struggles to get playing time. It is likely IMO that tension and uncertainty existed in that environment.

Also, at this point, certainty in the rotation is at least as important as having an able body in practice.

Doesn’t hurt as much shirt term unless there is a injury. But then again even without a injury he may have had one game in the dance like Marcus Lee which ends up being the deciding factor in the game. Pretty much there is good and bad for UK in this decision. Have to focus on the good or other players getting a longer leash and now not having to cut one player out of the main rotation since that’s what you do as the season gets deeper into the schedule

JJ is playing solid right now, Sestina needs to get hungry again, and Brooks has a world of potential. Whitney just wasn’t getting it. I guess he doesn’t want to be a 2-3 year guy!

I wouldn’t call it a positive necessarily, but what we will see is a tightened rotation, which is what this team needed. An 8-man rotation is ideal for this team.

He would have been nice to have for depth, but at this point I don’t know what Whitney would give you that Allen couldn’t. Unless they’re wanting to redshirt Allen which seems pointless to me.

It’s a shame he’s leaving, but I’d be shocked if this had a large impact on our team positive or negative this season.

Probably but being able to buy some minutes when we're in foul trouble is important. So is his athleticism in practice. It won't hurt us much in the box score but it will hurt in other ways.

No real addition other than Cal won’t have to keep trying to find minutes for KW.
No real subtraction other than a practice body. Any gain from using him if we had foul difficulties would have to be weighed against his basic skill deficiencies. You also have to worry about his unhappiness influencing others.
He may go somewhere else and be nothing more than Stacy Poole or he may figure it out grow into a Charles Matthews.
If he tries to go pro right now, I question if there is a league anywhere in the world that he can be successful.

What we know about Quade was he wasn't getting along with everyone else. He was toxic and dragging the team down.

We'll see, but it didn't seem like the rest of the team disliked Whitney.

This.

Green was a locker room cancer bc he was being overtaken by the incoming freshmen. He and PJ had a Soph vs Fresh mentality early in the season and if you watched closely you could see them looking for each other and blatantly not passing to the open guy. Once Green left, the team meshed and that’s when PJ bought in and took off.
