I'm sure those yelling at recruits to stay in NJ couldn't get to Piscataway today..great weather and a dec not game...

Nebraska has 364 sell outs of a 90k stadium thru thick n thin and RU can't average 40k..

Nebraska wouldn’t tolerate what we’ve seen. Period. End of story.

no way ash survives a 1-11 season as the big donors are already grumbling and Hobbs listens to them obviously. No way 1-11 will endear any serious looks by good recruits and at 1-11, negative recruiting is going to be paramount. We already have no D line recruits and it's one of our weakest areas. Our O line is awful and no progress is being made there. Our recruiting class is ranked 50s, it's going lower...watch

There is nothing to do in that state, the state above it, the state below it, the state to the right of it and the state to the left of it you have to drive 600 miles to find something interesting.

Other than that, the two schools are very comparable.

This, and they fired a coach for going 9-3...but yeah, RU fans are the stink because we don’t like watching us fall behind by 3 scores in the second quarter 4 weeks straight. Who wouldn’t want to see that live?

Well to be fair to the great state of Nebraska, there's always the State Fair once a year. That's a real hum dinger. And corn is an amazing plant to watch grow.

The whole blaming fans for failures in recruiting and on the field is beyond laughable.

Schools like Nebraska take action when they struggle, not wait for everything to collapse, catch on fire, and then break a water main before making necessary changes.

I’ll resume supporting the team when the university shows it’s committed to being competitive in the sport. Because I honestly havent felt that way since Uncle Bob left, yet I remained supportive until the Buffalo game. Just can’t do it anymore.

I don't want to emulate Pedo St at all. Their worship of football is why child rape occurred for 40 years. Their school President and BOG also actually care about athletics. Ours see it as a nuisance.

Yea psu is not a great example to use. Something seriously wrong with that fan base when you place football above human decency. I don't live and die by this sh*t like they do.

I'm not emulating PSU...just noting that everyone is screaming about RU drop in attendance I'd rather watch the game on tv or I'm not watching because they are losing..other programs don't drop 20 percent attendance like RU....this state has many options..but so does every college...their fans prioritize attendance at games..I'm sure their kids have sports, birthday parties, weddings on weekends....their stadiums are also 2x the size of HP.com

If you draw a 50 mile radius around Rutgers, there are more people than probably any other power 5 school in America. There are so many potential fans it's crazy. There are also so many other things to do in that same radius. So when RU is good the potential is almost limitless. When they suck, people rather do other things.

Residents of Nebraska have NOTHING else to follow. No professional teams. No other state universities. Nothing.

And last year, the stadium may have been sold out, but by the middle of the season no one was going to the games.
Nebraska wouldn’t tolerate what we’ve seen. Period. End of story.
Nebraska has the money to pay off a bad contract. Hell, all they need to do is reach out to a deep pocket donor and it's paid off. We have nothing comparable.

My brother is a pastor out in Lincoln: he and I talk weekly. He went to Texas A&M and Colorado for school, and is a Michigan fan (don't ask). And his wife is from Alabama. So he's had exposure to a lot of different aspects of college football. He talks about how people fly in from the western part of the state for the weekend and blow a thousand bucks a night, how every hotel is full, how the economy is dependent upon Nebraska football. Last year was terrible, people weren't coming into town for the games and a lot of businesses were hurting. He told me about a friend of his who manages a hotel suites place, forget the name of it, and how they were running around 40% vacancy on a game weekend, which was unheard of.

The irony of fans who stayed home complaining about attendance is ironic.
Not one person in this thread has complained about attendance.

They are pointing out how the bad attendance is representative of the fanbases current investment in this program. Which is obviously quite low.

Complaining about attendance would be "Why is no one there!?!? Our fans are pathetic!" Only thing that is pathetic is our program and the powers that be within it. Therefor I will gladly refrain from supporting the team financially with my time and attendance and hope the empty stadiums make a difference sooner rather than later.

Hobbs was there today unlike many posters in this thread. I saw him walk by my seats in the top row and didn't recognize him until he was halfway down to the field. I yelled out to him and he stopped, turned around, and climbed all the way back up to shake hands with my wife, nephew and me. His words? "Keep the faith." I said, "We're here."

Hobbs is a scam. No business being a AD in the B1G.

I personally like to refrain from the "pedo" stuff when being critical of them. It's irrelevant and unfair to them. But it's hard to deny they resemble the People's Temple Cult on night's like tonight. The white out is definitely cool, I can't take that away from them. But as for their game day atmosphere, Zombie Nation, Living on a Prayer and the like are corny as hell. It's like someone dropped the very worst of the Seaside Heights boardwalk/Jersey shore culture into the middle of central Pennsylvania. Which is kind of funny because they often refer to us as the "Jersey, guido trash". And of course as always, their crowd is very homogeneous. And I've heard more than several penn state alum actually take pride in that fact over the years which make them even more disgusting in my opinion.

I hope you’re taking a good look at the massive swaths of empty seats in your stadium today. Pay attention.
I’m sure he’s paying attention but there is not much he can do because we are financially strapped right now. If this Board can come up with $9m then maybe you get action.

Watched a lot of games today. Have come to realize with have an FCS roster right now. Most of that is Flood’s fault due to depleting the cupboard. However, Ash gets some blame for not getting recruiting traction to date and making bad coaching hires in his first two years. Flood resulted in loss of scholarships and bad hires resulted in players that don’t fit or are no longer here. The problem got compounded when the knuckleheads in he credit card fraud ring further destabilized an already questionable depth roster.

Whether we like it or not we do have another 2-3 years of a rebuild, with or without Ash, given the current roster. The severe lack of depth will make us look like a mid tier FCS school for 2-3 years.

You get it. Careful, board warrior @read option will attack you with a slew of curse words and tell you that you have your head up your butt--because it is all your fault for not agreeing with him and not demanding immediate change right now. And he wants premium seats and parking for long time fans.
Rutgers Athletics needs a serious infusion of cash to help right the ship and get the right coach.

You still don’t get it. I’m not expecting Ash gets fired now (although I’d like him to be), however after we finish 1-11 would anyone (including delusional you) want to see him back or believe a change isn’t needed?

I could care less about the parking or premium seating. I haven’t gone to one game this season and have used my time on Saturdays doing worthwhile activities with my family.

You think it’s the fans responsibility to give this program the money it needs to dig out of a hole they created for themselves by hiring and extending Ash. I completely disagree. And if you’re dumb enough to think the money given will be used in a way that the entire program will truly benefit and improve, then you clearly don’t know the Rutgers athletics program, this AD, President, BOG, etc. They will F it up like they always have.

Sorry that you have such a negative mindset, evidenced by you last sentence. Just give up then, and stop posting here if you think things are that dire. You think the B1G Build fund is a waste of money, and you are calling ME dumb. That's some hubris.

It's the same for PSU, it's just a shame the NCAA didn't have the balls to really punish PSU because they didn't want Mom and Pop businesses to go belly up, despite the fact they profited off of a university that put football ahead of the innocence and protection of children.

The Ash interview?
The Ash extension?
The Yankee Stadium decision?
Re-Configuring 118 so he can have a seat?
Destroying 118?
Cancelling UCLA in the Rose Bowl for Cuse?

Yup. And we are polar opposites. Most of college football is a middle ground between these 2 extremes.

Stork, but was that really all you needed ? The guy who has a huge hand in ruining our state’s football program shakes your hand and says “keep the faith” and that makes everything ok?
We really do let these clowns get away with murder around here.
You really think he ruined the program? That started in the Gruninger years. He started us off in 1920 when the rest of the P5 started in the 1990s. Hobbs has started to do at Rutgers what no other AD has EVER done here to date. For now, I’ll keep the faith. I’ll complain, but realistically know we are in for a rough 2 year stretch. Folks should jump off now if it makes them feel better.

This. Through thick and thin. Feel free to stay home, but the top recruits Rutgers needs right now will notice and continue to go elsewhere. Ash may not get 1-15 for whatever reason (likely he’s not much of a salesman), but I think many in NJ see he working hard to turn the ship.

Really appreciate stories like this. No way to know if they are true (.5 Prob?) but they sound great, emphasizing that RU fans should keep the faith. Like what have I already been doing since 1970?

118 no longer has a junior high configuration. It was always embarrassing to view in person and on tv.
