Dylan and Ace remind me of Daryl Strawberry on the Mets back in the day - when things were going good, and he was the toast of the town everything was great. When things weren't going good he wasn't mature enough to find a way to help the team, and instead became a distraction and an anchor around the teams neck. Maybe a bit harsh of an analogy, but if Ace and Dylan are not having a big spotlight game they both become net negatives and don't find ways to help this team win. I would expect more from the 2 best players on our team - freshman or not! Incredibly frustrating season.

I honestly have no idea what Harper was doing tonight. He didn’t give a crap if they won or loss. Bailey as well to a lesser extent. It was kind of shocking

Ace’s defense was as bad as Dylan’s effort tonight. The Others combined to score 49 points and more than did their jobs, Ace and Dylan did not do their jobs.

effort has generally not been an issue for Pike teams. Lots of other problems but not effort. This is on our star freshmen not giving a F and infecting the rest of the team.
Well, its an issue now. Do whatever you need to do to get him outa here.

I’ve said since the first week - Ace and Dylan don’t care.

Just interested in their draft stock. Good riddance to them

It certainly is this year. Our rebounding, defense, and paint protection expose it.

I owe someone an apology -- not sure who it was. But he called this in the offseason. He said Ace and Dylan would say all the right things publicly.. But didn't care about winning, was only here to just get buckets. Whoever that was -- hit the nail on the hammer with this one

Shelby’s been saying all along those two are only here to showcase talents and not to help the team win. Pike is finding out the hard way that those aren’t the same things.

I hate to call out people on a message board, but that is a terrible and unfair take on these two kids. They may have hit the freshman wall, and teams have learned how to key in on them, and they've been dealing with a variety of injuries all year. It's been a frustrating season for sure, but I think that this criticism is not reflective of Ace and Dylan's "effort". If anything, they were both TOO unselfish tonight, and dished the ball instead of driving to the hoop.

Agreed especially Dylan TOO deferential he needed to take over…. He didn’t.

It's Steve's job to motivate and lead. Greg would never allow this to happen.
Agreed. A great analogy to this Rutgers basketball season is the 2024 New York Jets. Pike and Robert Saleh are both considered “players coaches,” which is definitely a good thing …unless the coach doesn’t have a good balance between that and demanding accountability, responsibility, and leadership from their team. Both teams had high expectations going into the season and failed for this reason.

Both teams were totally out-coached in multiple games and didn’t make the right adjustments during the season to right the ship.

It was a very weird start to the game. It didn't seem like we were trying to get Ace or Dylan going early. For the first 5 minutes, I got the impression we were just trying to drain the shot clock before initiating any sort of "offense".

This thread is a little tough on the two, but there is an overwhelming Aau attitude in the maatador defense standing around on offense calling for the ball 30 feet from the basket actions of multiple players.

Not the most likable Scarlett Knight squad in the last many years

I watched Dylan walk off that court in pain mentally from that loss. He cares. Anything else being said said is BS and needs to stop. I know Ace does too but for Dylan this is personal because it’s home

Both these guys could’ve went to any school in the country for more money but came here. Remember that

The only thing these two care about is their draft position and future. Is there really anything wrong with this? New era of college..when it’s not about loyalty to school but loyalty to “your brand”….

I'm sorry, this is on Pike
Dylan and Ace have exceeded expectations up until now. I believe their efforts have been excellent up until now but they have to be beyond frustrated with the situation .
Each of these kids could be anywhere in the country and surrounded with players that could help their games
This is the biggest travesty in the history of Rutgers sports
Pike had two generational talents fall into his lap and he couldn't even put competent Big Ten level talent around them
He has two guys that get 40 a game combined
He didn't need that much
He needed to compliment them
Some size , some defense , a shooter athletically good enough to be on the floor
He got none of those things from the portal
Pike was given an opportunity to look for complimentary players only and he didn't do his job
This is not on these 18 yo kids

I disagree with this thread entirely. I think Iowa did a good job defensively on them. That's really it
You're right but at the same time, you can't let an 0-5 road team outscore you by 20 points over the final 15 minutes. Their defense was bad. If that is less about effort and more about illness sapping them of their energy, then the loss is also on the coach for not recognizing that.

It was not a foul....it was a smirk at the horrible ref call
smirk's don't show a full mouth of teeth but ok. you're entitled to your opinion. i like the guy just think he's plays unfocused at times. (like most of the team)

Honestly, it’s been a disaster. give me a team that can’t shoot straight but plays like their hair is on fire over this.
The result is the same, losses at the RAC.When a time can't even inbound a pass, there are serious problems in coaching and player execution of basic fundamentals.

For anyone really paying attention, it was apparent during the very first minute that Dylan was far from 100% out there.

The young man has given a great effort all year. He even accompanied the team on a road trip when he was down with the flu.

Fans have a choice. You can either believe he suddenly doesn't give a damn, or you can speculate that he had some kind of serious issue last night. He looked like he was really uncomfortable out there the whole night, trying to summon up enough energy to compete in spurts.

I think they care, they just should have played like it. We are down multiple scores with under 3 and Dylan is dribbling top of the key for 15 seconds as if it's the second possession of the game. Played too slow.
