The season is young, I get that. But I don't think it's so early that we can't talk about some of the surprises and good stories.

One surprise, regardless of who you cheer for and don't, is seeing both Duke and UNC in the bottom half of the standings. And I know schedules can skew these sort of things, but from the outside looking in, both teams look like they have a ways to go. Duke looks more likely to reach the pinnacle based on talent alone, but we all know how that works.

What about Virginia? Weren't they supposed to be down again? I guess not. And Clemson? A 3-0 start in conference play, but they were good in non-league games, too. And they have a pretty nice collection of veterans. Also, Notre Dame. I don't think any of us thought they'd be 3-0 last week at this time when we learned Bonzi Colson would be out up to eight weeks....and that was before they lost Farrell early in their second conference game.

I would say Pitt is the only team who 'is who we thought they were' at this point. Let's just hope it continues that way at least through Wednesday night.

Seems everyone is tough at home. I kow Duke has poor defense but they'll figure it out. This stretch of 4 games in less than 10 days will give them a test, especially with 3 of the four on the road. I think Clemson has been the biggest surprise for me. Do they play UNC at UNC this year?

Clemson by far for me (outside of our piss start) they are pretty darn good and I believe will finally get the Tar Heels in chapel hill! Also my wife got me tickets to the Clemson game and at Clemson is the last game I went to two years ago and it was an L.. praying that don't happen again I don't think I've ever been so disappointed leaving a sporting event.

Notre Dame is fool's gold with Colson out. I know they beat Syracuse at Syracuse but the Orange are complete trash on offense and they basically gave ND the win at the end. Pretty embarrassing way to lose that game and I wonder how much longer Boeheim is going to stick around.

Duke 1-2 with losses to 2 of the worst teams in the conference and a win over a top 25 team. It would be funny if it weren't so sad.

Totally surprised by our bad play so far and Notre Dame's good play. No Colson or Farrell and still beat Syracuse at Syracuse.
I'm not normally a stat guy, but in our 2 losses in conference, Allen is 8-28 from the floor. Trent is also about as bad as Allen thru 3 conference games from the floor. He is 15-45 and Allen is 16-48. Allen has 15 assists, and here's what I found disturbing: Trent has 2.

Got out-rebounded in both of the losses, too. It's not just bad shooting.

Should never be is correct. And i think it’s on the rest of the guys to assist in this area bc clearly Wendell and Bags are doing their part.
UNCheat out-rebounded BC 54-23. Duke's performance vs BC was truly pathetic.

This is valid. We bombed way too many 3's. We win the rebounding edge if we had fed Bagley/Carter every possesion down the stretch, and we would have won the game.

Surprisingly Good:
Clemson: Donte Grantham is shooting almost 20% better than last year from the field
Florida State: I was thinking more like a 9-12 seed in the NCAAs

Better Than Expected:
Virginia: Looks like a legit ACC Title Contender
North Carolina: Unfortunately they do look half-way decent
Syracuse: Not a great team, but I thought the Taurean Thompson transfer would be devastating

More or Less What I expected:
Notre Dame: pre-injuries. ND will most likely struggle to have a winning % in league play.
Miami: They're talented, they can beat anyone.
Boston College: I thought BC had a solid shot at the NCAAs before the season started, pre-Hawkins injury
NC State: 4 seniors seeing regular minutes. They have bad losses, but also very good wins. Business as usual, you could say.
Pittsburgh: They could probably win the SWAC

A Little Disappointing:
Duke: Grayson Allen gotta step up.
Virginia Tech: Great 3-point shooters, great wings, iffy defense.

Very Disappointing:
Louisville: 0-4 against RPI teams in the top 100. They need some quality wins
Georgia Tech: They've had a very shaky start. But Okogie is back, and GT recently beat Miami.
Wake Forest: John Collins is sorely missed at WF. They had several head-scratching losses to start the season.

Here's a look back at the Preseason Poll:
1. Duke (57) - 1020
2. North Carolina (7) - 921
3. Notre Dame (4) - 852
4. Miami (1) - 809
5. Louisville - 733
6. Virginia - 690
7. Virginia Tech - 549
8. Florida State - 519
9. Georgia Tech - 468
10. Syracuse - 420
11. Wake Forest - 378
12. NC State - 310
13. Clemson - 289
14. Boston College - 181
15. Pittsburgh - 141
