Until I put that list together, I didn't realize that 11 of the ACC's 18 coaches have 2 or fewer years at their school.

In just a few years we've gone from a conference laden with aging masters, to a bunch of young whipersnappers.

The biggest reason why the ACC will never be quite the same, not the only reason but the biggest.

I’m confident Jon is easily the best in the conference, at the moment I’d probably give Kelsey second, and Bromwell third.

Beyond that, who knows. Probably some will stay a while and some won’t.

My version of ACC hot seat going into next season….

Forbes
Grant
Young
Davis
Capel

I’d say at least 3 of those won’t see 2027.

I wonder about the hires at some of these schools. Why would you hire a guy with a couple years of experience but a sub .500 W-L record?

Is there some reason to think Shrewsberry and Stoudamire just need another year or so to make their schools competitive? Perhaps there is. I certainly don't know. But I can't help wondering how serious these schools are with hires like that.

Grant is another, but at least he has managed to improve BC every year until this year.

In Shrewsberry's case, he went 3-28 in his first season w/ a midmajor (IU-South Bend) with an improved but still sub-.500 2nd and final season, so that's a pretty deep hole. Not sure what he inherited there. He had well-regarded assistant stints at Butler, Purdue, and w/ the Celtics. He has a 14-17 season at Penn St, then a 23-14 NCAAT team. If I had to guess why, I guess that he's improved programs? He's shown slight improvement, recordwise, in his 2 years w/ ND, including his 1st year being an improvement over Brey's last.

Harder to make a case for Stoudemire. NBA pedigree and good assistant stints are my best guess.

It's not quite clear on saying who the best coach is. Jon is very good, but let's not forget the situation he came into. He might be as good at somewhere like Boston College or Notre Dame, but I'm not confident enough to bet money on it.

Coaches aren't all the same, but you also can't make chicken salad out of chicken sh*&.

You can't? I guess that's why the wife won't eat my salads.

I highly doubt Jon would convince 4 McDonalds AA a year to come to Boston College. I think Jon would have more success at Pitt than Capel but I think Capel would have done a good job at Duke.

Jon has shown he can get top talent. He's also shown he can do very well with top talent. With any luck, he'll never need to prove how good he is with mediocre talent. Not this year, for sure.

It took guys like K and Dean several years to approach the level Jon started at.

All he needs to do is win 29 games a year, or so, until he's 75 and he might catch K. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. ;)
