As if the cowbell assault wasn't bad enough, this bottle throwing incident places our fan base in a such a bad light.
The entire evening Nessler and Dykes, the ESPN commentators, are heaping praise on MSU. Even with the courtside reporters begging the topic of the "phone incidents", the Nessler-Dykes combo continues to plug us positively.
Then...the bottles come.
Calipari, who just happens to be on camera with the courtside reporter, ducks and comments about not wanting to get hit with a bottle. Nessler-Dykes chastise the event and Nessler specifically calls out our AD and says he has some issues to address and needs to get more security. It's a "black eye" for the university.
Nice. Let's hope the damage was limited to only a few million viewers (sarcasm intended). The opportunity to place MSU in a positive light on a nationally televised event tarnished due to inexcusable actions. Worse than that, it takes away from the best efforts of the team, the coaching staff, and the great fan support (turnout) who earned the respect of the ESPN crew and probably the at-home audience, especially in spite of odds they faced.
Hopefully, we'll not hear much more about this incident. But somehow I doubt it. And I'm concerned there will be further repercussions.
Just my two hundred Lira.
