OK, since the talk here has turned to Pork Butts and stew, we're in the off-season (as if that really matters) so it's time for an off-topic thread. And since this is the only board I post on anymore (and I don't even know where to find the OT board), I'm posting this here.
A few years ago, I did this on the old board, and there are lots of new posters since then, and plenty of new trolls, so we might learn something from this.

Everyone, post something about yourself that you'd like to share with the board, or you think we should know about you. How you came up with your username or avatar? Where you went to school, your wrestling background, family stuff, business or job, what kind of car you drive? Anything that might make us like, or know, or dislike you more or less. A lot of you, it's pretty easy to tell religious or political affiliations, so let's avoid those if possible.

We had a lot of fun with this last time, and I learned a lot about my fellow Cesspoolians. It turned into a long thread. Obviously, don't give out things that are security questions; this is not a phishing scheme, just wanting to know more about friends or enemies.

I'll start out with a few, and might add more as I see how this goes; My username is not about Tom and Terry, it's my initials. I'm on my third marriage, but this one has lasted 34 years next month. No pics, I posted my exes on a thread on the old board a long time ago. I have three kids (legally, that I know of) ages 46, 44, and 30. Eleven grandkids and four great-granddaughters, and my first great-grandson on the way. Both of my sons wrestled, three of my grandsons have, at some time, and three of my granddaughters. One grandson and one granddaughter are currently, in MS and HS. I wrestled in HS and went to college to wrestle for Chuck Patten at UNI, but suffered a massive knee injury just before the Iowa meet my Freshman year, and due to many circumstances, never returned to the sport on a team. I've wrestled some Opens and old-timers since then and coached at several levels, including now at the Senior Pan-Ams ;). I've even refereed some, mainly kids tournaments and a little freestyle. I have been going to Hawkeye meets since 1972 and have been basically to all of them (home) since 1981, and every event above HS age in CHA and Xtream. I have been to 37 NCAA tournaments, 32 in a row at one point, over 30 B1G tourneys, and 60-70 Midlands, Northern, UNI, and other opens.

I was an avid cyclist and ran lots of road races, duathlons, and cross-country until RA and now neuropathy caught up with me. I also played baseball in HS and softball for 25 years or more as an adult, often in several leagues at a time.

As I said, maybe I'll add more when I see what other people share. Let's have fun with this.

OK - I'll give this a shot. I had a total of 12 varsity letters in high school over 5 different sports. None of which were wrestling. Played baseball in college for a few years until being a D-1 ability hitter was not good enough for my D-3 defensive liabilities as a catcher. So I gave up my dream. My wrestling career ended after junior high where I went something like 10-3 give or take. My second favorite sport was basketball so no more wrestling. But as a kid growing up in Iowa, many of us gave it a try. I think I would have liked freestyle as I wasn't a big fan of being underneath.

I have been an Iowa wrestling fan since the mid 70's and remember those teams featuring Yagla, DeAnna, Campbell, Kinseth, Lewis, etc. very well. I have lived in Illinois for more than 40 years now, but will always call Iowa my home.

Well I will play. I’m 56 almost 57 wrestled in Minnesota and at the university of North Dakota (fighting Sioux). Married with 2 children 1 of each My son wrestled until Jr year and his Sr year was derailed by covid. I coached for 30 years at youth, middle and high school levels. I am a fan of wrestling. I used to love Minnesota wrestling but not with what the program has become. Had a knee replaced 15 years ago after 7 scopes. Yes i would do it over everyday. I come to this board for the passion Iowa fans have for the sport. Reading some of the pots really make me laugh. It’s good entertainment. There is also a group that is delusional they are fun too. If the wrestling is entertaining i will watch.

No, I'm retired, but never was in Law Enforcement of any kind. This world has changed so much. Everyone is paranoid. Over a hundred people have seen this and no one has shared.
Alright, I’ll play. Yes, I’m a cop, 28 years of LA County Law Enforcement.

I started wrestling in Jr. High and my HS coach wrestled collegiately at Cal State Fullerton. Iowa was dominating at the time (early 90’s) and my coach told us a lot of Gable-isms to motivate us. One in particular was “You can’t control how naturally athletic you are, or how big you are, but you can control how much you want to win and how hard you’re willing to work for it.” Those words helped motivate 14 year-old me and I’ve been a Hawk fan ever since.

I wrestled some in Jr. College and started training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Submission Wrestling in 2002. The first gym I trained at was run by a few former Hawkeyes, Rico Chiapparelli and Chad Zaputil. It was pretty awesome.

When I get frustrated with the Hawks performance in March I take solace in the fact that at least I get to watch my other favorite team (the Dodgers) go all Penn State on the rest of MLB.

Go Hawks!

I feel like I’m being racially profiled……

- my username is my training center in GA Alpha Omega Coachphil.
- wrestled in HS. (wrestling claim to fame: Sam Henson was my roommate in college and went on to coach my nephew at the same college)
- In the real world, I’m the account executive for an HVAC financing company
- pet parent to 2 dogs, 6 snakes, 2 rats, and 1 chameleon
- I ride a Harley. My road-name is “DoubleStuff” (because I’m a double stuffed Oreo) get it? Oreo?
- I’m bi-racial and readily make fun of race and totally enjoy race-baiting. Sadly, this is a trait passed on to my kids, who both think they have the same rights that I do, however, they are both only 1/4 pounders and therefore cannot have the same liberties as I do because their father married a black woman and half of me does not approve
- six awesome grand babies! From my oldest son who still lives in South Georgia and guides hunts and trains the dogs at Millpond Plantation
- most have probably figured out my political affiliation. And if you haven’t, please consult with someone who has
- I’m a gun freak…. It’s bad. Like really bad. Put it like this, whether it’s a civil war or Zombie Apocalypse, I’m ready to both.
- I’ve always wondered if part of my white-half once owned part of my black-half. (I know, I’m a sicko)
- Harley Street Glide
- Toyota 4Runner
- Lincoln MKS

I hope multiple people have been offended by this. And those that aren’t offended should be ashamed of yourselves for laughing.

This reminded me I forgot two very important family members, pictured below. They take up more of my time than anything other than the internet, I'm both proud and ashamed to say. They're working on their Greco skills in this photo.

Oh, and I, also, have a penchant for firearms.

Never wrestled, small Iowa high school didn't offer it and before open enrollment was allowed. They later started it, my step brother broke his neck wrestling there (all ended well). Loved wrestling from a young age. Dad started taking us to Iowa meets and football games when quite young. Got to meet Gable and Lute Olson at banquets. Dad also had numerous sports acquaintences including the football great Randy Duncan who pheasant hunted with us, and later in life the great dual sport Thumper Thorson was his neighbor that we got to know. I was at Iowa during mid 80's, some great wrestling teams to watch. My son wrestled DIII.

Trapper, hunter, fisherman, nature enthusiast, wildlife research scientist, from a family of recovered gun collecting addicts (old Belgian made Browning A5s), 3 kids, 6 grandkids, always a chocolate lab.

Love of Iowa wrestling and the outdoors came from dad, who passed away a few months ago. Thanks dad, miss ya!! Go Hawks!

Can we start an Belgian A5 thread, I too have quite a collection. Have to include pre-1968 or 62 supreposed O/U, especially .410 and 20 guages. My dad passed in December and I began at the old fieldhouse watching Chris Cambell, Chuck Yagala, and Scottt/Mark Trizzino etc. You're my kinda Iowan.

I wrestled 2-10 grade living in Burlington. Moved to Spfld, MO. 2 time state qualifier in Missouri (Yes I know nothing like Iowa) and wrestled for a bit DII at NE Mo St (Truman St). Used to love Iowa wrestling, now love wrestling and Iowa is waining with me under Brands. Feels like Zaleskey and we can't recruit at elite level, exspecially after losting Bassett Now Iowa will be tortured for next 5 years with what could have been.

52, divorced for 2 years now. Father of 2 grown sons. I live in Washington, IA and took college courses online (University of Phoenix) I never wrestled in school as a kid but fell in love with watching the sport when I was about 12. I remember being a kid and watching guys like Kevin Dresser, Brad Penrith, Duane Goldman, Royce Alger and Jim Heffernan.. I had season tickets for Iowa Wrestling for about 10 years. Gave them up during COVID. Thinking about getting them back as I will be moving to North Liberty soon...

Whenever I read your user name it reminded me of John Prine, but I thought "nah, it can't be that". One more for the list of things I was wrong about.

The extent of my wrestling career was being the "wrestling dummy" for an eventual state champ and state qualifier. I was tweener who didn't want to cut weight as a HS frosh so gave up the sport.

My dad had a group that played handball at the fieldhouse on Sunday mornings so I'd go with since it was not open at 8 a.m. and had the run of the place. I once raced Chris Campbell who was running sprints next to the basketball court as part of a workout. Since I was like 8, I didn't win.

Third date my wife and I went on was a John Prine/Old Crow Medicine Show concert in Atlanta. She was in law school at Emory and I was a brand new Infantry lieutenant at Fort Benning. Lost the tickets between her house and the concert venue. Guy at Will Call looked up my ticket purchase and let us in. Saw him a couple more times before he passed, most notably with Gillian Welch/Dave Rawlings and Jason Isbell when we were in grad school at VT.

I, like MissouriHawkeye, started out in Burlington. Wrestled grades 7-12. Was a career .500 JV wrestler, haha. I had my eyes opened to wrestling greatness like so: one of the best kids in our HS program finished state runner-up. But he was dominated by Dan Knight (Clinton). Dan Knight was dominated by Terry Brands in college. College Wrestling on IPTV was must-see TV back in the day.
In the 80s when Iowa had some magical years with the trifecta of Gables teams, Hayden Fry's FB teams and Tom Davis' BB teams, it was amazingly fun for my teenage self
