I have to think it doesn't look good for him. Teams already have 40 new guys they've drafted to evaluate and place on short season and low-A teams. It's hard to see them giving him much of a chance when they've already passed on him. My guess is his only hope is to catch on with some independent league and hopefully put up some big numbers and get their attention from there. I really don't understand it. He's a solid player. I guess they think he's about maxed out his potential already.

Don’t know how it is now, but two buddies of mine went to open tryouts for the Angels and Mets in the 80s. After quickly weeding out the guys that didn’t belong there, they started running them through basic drills and taking measurables. I want to say this was a 2-3 day process, and each team was MAYBE going to take 1-2 guys out of 100 that showed up. My buddy in California actually got picked up by the Angels and relegated to their farm league, but quit after a year because he needed to make money.

Teams can offer all non drafted guys FA deals. My bet is he will get an offer after the CWS. No doubt his injury hurt his draft status. Teams will generally wait to see which draft picks sign and then offer FA deals to fill out roster holes in the lower minor league levels. Also, I'm not a "get off my lawn guy" and while I do love his enthusiasm, that extreme isn't a sought after trait.

A couple of years ago we had several players that weren't drafted but Canni (because of his past as scout) was able to use his connections to help them get FA contracts with teams. Hopefully, Gautreau will be able to use his Boras connections to do the same for Mac.

Is Japan not an option? I have no ideas what they pay and whether they have

a farm system similar to outs or not.

One thing all of those guys have in common. They all played a long time ago.

Yeah I agree, but it probably doesn't look good for a lot of them even if they got drafted. Obviously, you'd rather get drafted than not, but I would guess a team who had some picks not sign will bring him in and you go from there.

If he is interested in coaching, you would think we would take him as a GA here in a heartbeat.
