With the stock market plunge on the verge of wiping out all of the 2018 gains (and possibly much more by some financial talking heads), i'm curious:

1. why is the market sinking like a lead weight?

2. when will it return to its previous highs, and beyond?

Substantive answers preferred. Notice there is nothing political in my post; prefer the answers address the actual issues and not engage in political blather. Thanks.

Daggone it, moe and coop. i want someone with credibility to reassure me, to tell me everything will be ok, that the market will bounce back quickly, etc. I agree with you on the reasons. Curious what reasons others will give.

One thing affecting the markwt IMO is ibterest rates affecting the bond market. We went a long time with fed rates next to nothing and during that time a lot of market growth was credited to the bobd market shrinking due to low yields. With rates rising I think some money is making its way back there.

So, Republican in the presidency and market is great........credit goes to the Republican president. When the market is in a downward spiral, then the blame goes to the Democrat billionaires and their politicians.........you guys are truly funny. [roll]

This is what happens when you overheat and economy with stimulus (tax cuts) in an already high economy.

Investors are baking in the probability of a downturn now that the tax cut boost has worn off and rates are increasing.

This has been happening from well before the election. Gains have been flat overall with some noise in between all year. We will also be seeing much lower GDP growth going forward as tarriffs and protectionism make their mark.
