They won like 28 games. Seems a lot for a 15 seed but I’m sure it’s bc their schedule was trash. Some smaller schools have games against d-2 and naia schools to fill out a schedule

A lot of people said that about UMBC last year who lost a game by 48 points 2 weeks before the tournament. Just play them a game at a time and let our athleticism shine.. would like Keldon to have a Hami-type game in the early rounds to really get him going. And hopefully STAY GOING.

They are a small Southland Conference school (enrollment 5200) in the same league as Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston State. Undersized for the most part with their tallest starter at 6'8". I've seen them play a few times and they play up tempo and do shoot a lot of three's; close to 40% on the season. Four of their starting five average in double figures with their top scorer being Jaren Lewis at about 14ppg. Payton Ricks is their best outside shooter and has hit 79-193 three's on the season. As someone stated, they lost to Texas Tech by 34 at the beginning of the season. They do play hard and will most likely jack up about 30 three's as it's their only chance of keeping it close. Our size should give them major problems inside as they don't have anyone to match up with PJ or Reid. I expect them to grab an early lead something like 15-12 then CBS will post an "upset alert", lol. We should win this one by 25 but we said the same about NKU a couple of years ago. I still expect us to win this by at least 20. They didn't even move up to D-1 until 2017 so I'm sure they're just excited to be there. I actually have co-workers with kids on athletic scholarships to ACU and it's an up and coming school.

Actually, the Southland Conference is a bit like the MVC in that the teams are not known nationally but the league is very competitive. Remember a couple of years ago when Stephen F. Austin actually made the final round of 16? This team is nothing like that but the league overall is not as bad as one would think. We still should not have problems with them due to our size inside.

Sounds like a football team that was featured in the movie "Friday Night Lights". UK by 25-30.
Abilene has some excellent HS football down here and you are correct about that. Both Abilene High and Cooper are very good and have been perennial powers in football.

Small school in the Southland Conference. Not much good in basketball but they're no joke in baseball and one of the winningest teams in Texas.
They've had eight MLB selections since 1990 and you may recognize these names; Geno Encina of the Blue Jays, Elroy Urbina, Dbacks, Chris Solis of the Nationals and Hector Delgadillo who played for the Jays as well.

And Incarnate Word beat ND State, which is a tournament team.

What about Permian (Again, Friday Night Lights..lol) football down there in Texas ? Are they still what they were in the 80s and 90s ?

How would you compare them to the NKU squad that Uk faced as a 2 seed in the 1st round in 2017?

Yes, Odessa Permian and Midland Lee have programs that resemble ones in college. Football out there is serious business. The entire Midland/Odessa is booming right now and you can't even get a hotel room at a Holiday Inn Express for less than $400 per night. Lots of "recruiting" going on out there since the area is exploding. I actually went to a HS game in 1984 between Temple and Midland Lee and could not believe the size and speed of the players. Their sports talk shows in that area revolve around HS Football. And on a side note; Temple is a good 6 hours from Midland and there were lots of fans that showed up from Midland.

They're undersized. Only similarity I see is that have a couple of quick guards that can hit the three if left unguarded. NKU gave us fits inside but this team only has one starter taller than 6-6".

They shoot a lot of 3s. Best team they played was Texas Tech...lost by 34.

They actually shoot a good % from 3 but don't take many of them

They shoot 38% from 3

But their 3PA/FGA is only 34.2 (291st)

They do apparently force a bunch of turnovers.........8th in the NCAA in turnover %

They hit 7-20 yesterday and 8-17 today. I think one game they shot about 27 threes so it probably depends on who they're playing.

The Wildcats are going to win this game. There is NO doubt.

(The only possible question is Which Wildcats.)
