I can’t overstate how insane it is that ABC would delay the start of the Scott Frost era missing first 5+? minutes of the game in favor of finishing a stupid game that was already out of hand. Happens all the time and is horsesh*t. They should schedule appropriately to allow timely starts- or should be required to advertise a game will be shown “not in full” or ~90%. Absolute nonsense.
ESPN3 isnt supported by my cable (yes I accept that’s my problem and should be switching service) but why should it be necessary to deal with that BS? If anything, it’d make more sense to switch the stupid out of hand game over to espn3 to start next game on schedule. There were also 1-2 available espn channels at the time. Not sure Moos has any pull, but he should give ABC an earfull. Unacceptable: Kind of mirrored Nebraska’s ridiculous start.

Was told now that the networks are not allowed to change games. Previous games have to be shown in entirety! Not sure if true but that is what I was told yesterday!

They always show the start of the games streaming if they is a run over, and often on ESPN news channel

This is nothing new, it doesn't matter who is involved.

Really? " How dare they not deviate standard operations for the start of the Scott Frost era!!!!"

Do you have a smart phone? If you answer yes, do yourself a favor and download the WatchESPN app. You can watch the game on your phone, until the tv switches coverage. I was able to watch the beginning of the game this way.

When Kansas State won their first game in Lincoln since the 60s in 2003, the game was well out of reach and the network switch to another game late. KSU fans were pissed.

So the "networks must be show games to their completion" rule must have started within the last 15 years if that's the case.

Remember Houston-SMU (?) on Black Friday 2016? ABC didn't start showing the Nebraska-Iowa game until about 20-30 minutes after the start.

I always thought it was because the games come from the national ABC feed and they "supersede" local affiliates?

Not directly related to the OP but college games are getting longer. Much of the extra time has to do with video replays (maddening long for most replays) and increasing commercial time (a two minute commercial interlude is now common for on-field injuries). I would argue that the trend toward more passing (and thus more clock stoppage) has also increased the length of games.

The networks allow 3 hours for college football games.... 11am to 2pm for instance. They also slot a one-half hour segment of studio time to accommodate any possible delays..... 2pm to 2:30 e.g. That studio time used to work perfectly for games that are 1-15 minutes over scheduling. Nowadays, football games are routinely taking up most of the studio time and, recently, more and more games are eclipsing the studio time as well. Games are tending toward 3 1/2 hours from start to finish. When it gets to 4 hours, I'm switching to baseball :))
